Event catering that won't break the bank?

Here are some things that may help you. Ask all potential caterers/restaurants for reviews. Very important.

To see if they are a good fit with your needs - some of this is obvious- identify the number of guests, how many are children, elderly. When/Where the Wedding Site is & does it have a commercial kitchen the caterer can use the day of the event, including refrigerator/walk-in space. Are you thinking of seafood, meat, veggies - and/or a combination for your hors d-ouvres. Do they have a personable & trained staff. Can they take care of rentals & delivery/pick up for you, after you make your selections.
Are you going to serve Wine & Beer, plus? Or Cocktails?
Cash Bar? that will help with expense, you can provide the champagne for the toast.
Best of luck, hope this helps.

You need to learn their products. The staff is knowledgable & fun! Triple Ginger Cookies. Large Dark Chocolate Bar. Low priced eggs & butter. Castello Blue Cheese. Smoked Salmon.
Great breads, good prices. Spring onions in sealed plastic bag. Guacamole. Nice cracker and EVO, well-priced.

Suggestions and Tricks to put together a polished professional meal.

I'm a caterer & planning and early prep - including finding frig space- are the key. Some easy ideas: antipasto, salade Nicoise with Old Bay steamed shrimp. Spiral ham (buy from good grocery store) & biscuits you just warm/ finish slicing the ham. Warm Brie or Sharp Provolone with baguette slices, Make ahead Sugar Spiced Pecans. Pork Tenderloin with Sauce (see Food Network) are quick. Mixed fresh berries with a little brown sugar, lemon, & grated fresh ginger. have fun!

What new food(s) have you tried recently and how was it?

champagne & larger mangos- learn how to cut first. Add to Quinoa & fresh veggies for a super side dish. Dry heat quinoa until it crackles, then cover with water & cook til tender.

TONS of produce - what to do with cauliflower, radishes, mushrooms...

Make healthy quinoa and add these veggies to it. Dress with orange juice, parsley, rice vinegar, EVO. Also, your local food banks would be so appreciative.

Cringeworthy dishes by people who think they are terrific cooks...

My cousin went to newlyweds home. The bride was excited to serve pasta with sauce. She opened a box of pasta, put on each plate, then poured (heated) sauce over it

Need advice for Chesapeake Bay area restaurants, especially ones with great views or on marshes.

The Narrows has excellent food with a great water/boats view. It is in Graysonville, between the Kent Narrows Bridge and 301/50 turnoff. Outstanding Ahi!!

Someone must be eating there...

sorry, disagree. A Tower Oaks chef was featured on Food Network & is nominated for Chef of the year. We eat there often and the food is great, well plated and delicious. The decor is beautiful. Go & see.
