The authenticity of a restaurant, or "what's the ethnicity of your server?"
The Italian resto/pizza joint I go to is owned by an Israeli and the wait-person is Israeli and the cooks are black.....best pizza in the city.
Green olive brine
Let's say I finished a couple of bottles of green olives and I saved the jars with the brine in the ice box. Now let's say I really like the large, bleu cheese stuffed olives in the deli of the market I go to, but they are just in the case with NO brine. Do you all think it would be okay to put these olives in the jars I have with the brine in them? The jars with the brine were first opened only a month or two ago.
Lake Forest Pastry shop in Clayton Missouri
I'm getting fat just reading these posts.....yum!
St. Louis Steakhouse - Downtown - Father and Son!
Im sure you will find a good steak house in the city, but if I were you, I would skip the Rams (did you see the opener in Seattle?) and go to a Cards game instead.
best gooey butter cake in st. louis?
MacAuthur's Bakery ROCKS
Been my favorite for a long time and BTW, they support our troops 100%. That alone is enough for me!
What do you eat when you are home alone? [moved from Home Cooking]
I throw a can of tamales in a large soup bowl followed by a can of chili, nuke till hot then diced onion on top. My wife hates it when I do this. :>)
Mike Duffy's Richmond Heights MO
The ones at the Kirkwood store are pretty good.....haven't been there in a few years though.
Lake of the Ozarks
The Old Trail House on highway 5 a few miles north of Camdenton has pretty good food and a killer view of the lake at sunset.
German food in St. Louis?
Thanks guys. Yeah, both The Vintage House and Roemer Topf sound like what I've been missing. I just think it's a darn shame that St. Louis County doesn't have/support such restos.

German food in St. Louis?
With the rich German heritage that st, Louis has, where is all of the German food? There used to be a couple of not bad restos and the one I'm thinking of was down on Michigan in sort of a rough neighborhood in south city. The last time I was there, it was in the 60s and I was entertaining my brother-in-law from Atlanta. On the weekends, that oompa band from Colombia, Ill. would come over and play. The idea was to eat a good meal, get half full of beer and form a conga line going out of the door and down the street. Yeah, we were young and stupid, but it sure was a lot of fun and I do remember the food being quite good.
Anyhow, where in the hell is all of the sauerbraten and kraut??????????
Best BBQ in Gulf Port MS. ?
...........either BBQ or some really great comfort food?
Best St. Louis Mo. Ribs - Mom & Pop or Hole in the Wall
If you are going to be near the Kirkwood area, Richard's Ribs are very good. He uses indirect heat and smokes them. It's a tiny place so if you have a crowd, you can always get carry-out.
New to St. Louis
Richard's Ribs out in Kirkwood has some pretty good BBQ.
Small place....good for carry out.
Brazie's in St. Louis
I hear that Brazie's has moved from Hampton to the corner of Arsenal and Watson. Has anyone been to the new locale and if so, what is the parking like....ease of getting from the car to the resto?
Best Pizza in St. Louis – WITHIN Parameters
Doesn't anyone on this board like Farrato's pizza besides me?
St Louis--not to be missed
I've never been to the one on Clayton Rd., but have been to the one in Kirkwood on Jefferson at Clay. I agree, the chili rounders are quite good. The last few times I've been there I got their pizza which I thought was pretty good as well. I'm assuming both store are much the same?
Being addressed by servers
What bugs me is when a server refills my water glass and I thank them, quite often the reply is "no problem". What the hell happened to you're welcome?
Best Hamburger in Midwest
Hey JbinSTL were you talking about The Village Bar on Manchester Road out by 270?
What's with the SPAM monopoly?
We ketp about half of the Russian army from starving during WW11 by sendinng them Spam. I imagine they were pretty thakful for whatever we sent them.
What to eat with cottage cheese?
Take a mixture of cottage cheese and grape jelly and spoon it across the middle of a Swedish pancake, roll it up like a cigarette and have at it. :>)
Small cities' food specialties
Seems like back in the 70s I ran into several places in Ky. that served BBQed mutton. If I'm remembering righr they were little road side stands where you would expect to get a burger or a hot dog .
BBQed pork steaks in St. Louis.
STL - Pantera's Pizza (east side also)
Me too....old enough that is.
Haven't been to a Pantera's since the one in Webster shut down years ago. Don't know how "authentic" the one is in O'Fallon, but there is a STL. radio jock that talks about it all of the time.:>)
Holed up in Des Peres Hospital, St. Louis
