Thanks. I figured that's what I needed to do. Matter of how much, how long. Hey it's cheap, trial and error will work.

So what is this? It's about 2x2.5 inches square brown and hard as a rock.
I got it thinking I could use it to make some winter melon tea. But I haven't been able to figure out exactly what I have and how to use it.

Google just gives my links to preserve a gourd after you clean it out. Or places to buy tea. Even the web site for the company does not list the product.

Ingredients sugar-wax gourd. I did find a reference to winter melon brown sugar candy, but this is hard as a brick.

Has anyone used this stuff?
