quirky personal home food combinations....

"Schnertz" is a quirky word combination...

Smile(?) + the 1920's slang for BS-- Nertz !

Maybe derived from the title of Eddie Cantor's tune Cheer up! Smile! Nertz!

What fast food do you eat rarely, but that first bite think "Wow, this is so good!"

A citrus-marinated, fire-grilled chicken thigh from El Pollo Loco.

Something I'd eat more often if there was a EPL nearby.

Are oxtails really ox?

I found this--

"Christmas trees became popular in the UK in 1800, when Queen Charlotte, German-born wife of George III, had the first decorated Christmas tree in Britain, at a Windsor Castle party. Royal family members had Christmas trees long before common people. When Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, also German, allowed The Illustrated London News to display an image of the Royal Family gathered
around their Christmas tree, the tradition took off. After that, everyone wanted one, and they became popular in the Commonwealth and the US."

Is it proper etiquette to call the chef "Chef"?

Is it proper etiquette to call the chef "Chef"?

IMO-- Yes and with respect in the instance described.

BTW-- (Only at the Yacht Club do I expect to be addressed as "Commodore".)

Foods that change as you eat them

Partially melted Ice Cream is more satisifying to me as opposed to rock hard from the freezer.

Do you decant your canned soda beverages before partaking?

IMO Moxie soda tastes better after "decanting".

Maggots in salad at restaurant. What would you have done?

If I had friends over for dinner and this happened in my home...

"several maggots squirming and bopping up and down in the greens" ?!?

Not a possibility.

Coffee + Salt

Next time I order McD's coffee I'll pick up a little salt packet and try this.

The instant coffee I use sometimes at home is a brand produced in Germany and tastes salty compared to US brands.

Your "Food Fantasy Lifestyle." Have you got one?

"Joseph Horn, a Philadelphian with no restaurant experience, and Frank Hardart, a cook from New Orleans, opened their first restaurant in Philadelphia on December 22, 1888. Their tiny 11 x 17 lunchroom at 39 South 13th St. wasn’t fancy—simply a counter with 15 stools. But Horn & Hardart soon had a steady stream of customers drawn by its novel New Orleans-style French-drip coffee.

"A trip Hardart took to Berlin in 1900 inspired a unique twist to H&H’s restaurant business. While there, Hardart came
across an Automat...."

Is home cooking an art, or a craft?

Cooking dinner for the fam-- little "artistry" is involved.
Also, it would be a conceit to say I "craft" meals.

When I'm done preparing what I want to eat and enough for them they can call it what they will.
