Terrible service. I now keep a packet of temporary tattoos in my wallet and a fake ironic mustache in my pocket in event I end up at the Neighborhood. Their beer list almost makes up for the attitude however. |

URBN has a decent beer selection, interesting cocktail menu and fairy good pizza, Sadly, no vowels... |

Be sure to give the chalkboard at Blue Water your attention. Much better than the standard menu. Mama Testa would be good for the kids and it's a stone's throw from the zoo. But agreed, not best for fish tacos. ----- |

+1 on the Urban Solace veggie burger. BL's is just too dense for my taste but works in a pinch. When craving a fast food style burger Veg N' Out works. ----- |

Cheese Plate...where's the love? Urban Solace started serving a decent cheese plate. Linkery is good too. Psst - the best ones are the ones you make yourself. ;-) ----- Urban Solace Restaurant |

Boston hound in SD, looking for fish tacos and sit-down Mexican One of my fav dishes anywhere. |

Boston hound in SD, looking for fish tacos and sit-down Mexican +1 - try the pescado zarandeado - get the whole fish, the filets tend to dry out when cooking. |

The patio is loud and rancous enough for my tender ears. Crap. I must be getting old. |

Urban Solace might be your best pick for brunch - in North Park and yes, they have a very fine bar. ----- |

Plus you get a free Rosemary bush for your herb garden... |

Good Eats somewhat near the University of San Diego Head into Linda Vista/Clairmont Mesa area for Sab e lee (mentioned above) best Thai in the city. Hole in the wall. K's - Vietnamese Banh mi (and a place every kid on a student budget should know about). More of a grab-n-go kind of place but there are seats. Izakaya Sakura - Japanese Sushi Dokoro Shirahama - traditional Japanese sushi. Not the best we have in San Diego but a cut above everything else in the area that we've found. Balboa International Market - Persian supermarket with nice deli counter and hot foods. Another good place on a student budget. |

Cool Cocktail bars in North Park or Tierasanta? Small Bar might work - technically in University Heights however. |
Krispy - this was pre-packaged in a 2 or 3 pound bag. Facing the bulk it was on the shelf behind you that's the barriier shelf to the produce section. (By the rice/soy milks I seem to recall). You know, I think I've also seen it at North Park Produce. I'll check this weekend. Trader Joe's also carries a 3 grain blend of farro, spelt and something else IIRC. I remember trying it and thinking it would make an excellent risotto... |

Cafe Chloe would be my pick but this isn't a buffet style campagne brunch - they have champagne and mimosas but you order off a menu. Which I love. If the OP is looking for the buffet style wiith carving stations, made to order waffles and eggs, etc... I'd suggest the Westgate Hotel's Le Fontainebleau room. Or, ferry over to Coronado and rent a bike to the Hotel Del's... ----- |

Krispy, I know I've picked it up at the Whole Foods in Hillcrest - made a shitake mushroom "risotto" stuffed in acorn squash with it just a few weeks ago... Well, if you find it elsewhere let me know. I might need to find a new source now. |

Casual Downtown Reccomendation Was it a Blood in the Sand? |
Casual Downtown Reccomendation Isn't that same thing as ironic? |
Casual Downtown Reccomendation Good call. But I always feel weird packing my bootleg stash of ketchup ;-) |
Not gourmet at all (and I haven't been there in years) but Foster's Freeze on Waring used to be my go-to shake shack. |
Casual Downtown Reccomendation I think it's the ironic mustache that sets them apart from the rest of us... |
Casual Downtown Reccomendation NE makes some of the better cocktails in town - if you've never been, I'd give them a try. |

Hey, I like Burger Lounge too. I'll need to try the brick and mortar again as I've only dined at the truck twice - which we enjoyed greatly. But possibly because Allen is so generous with information and handed us sample upon sample. My wife likened it to "Indian Food 101" which was good for her as she is new to eating it. So that might have had something to do with the impression I also love Surati Farsan Mart, tho. To the OP. You can't go worng with either of these places. Look at both and see what interests you that day. And may we also suggest Burger Lounge ;-) ----- |

Why? |

Mariscos German - would be a good zoo visit. Closest is 30th and Grape but just a few minutes further is the truck on University and 35th. Might want to go another 2 blocks and try Super Cocina as well. Very kid friendly and some of the best homestyle Mexican food we have to offer. Point Loma Seafood - order to go and follow the scenic route signs up to Cabrillo Monument which offers one of the best views in San Diego - the ocean, the harbor, Coronado, Mexico and the mountains all in one panoramic swoop. Kaito is the best Japanese style sushi we have to offer, and some of the best sushi in general. Period. Cafe Chloe is one of my favorite places ever. I'd maybe try the Copper Chimmney instead of Surati Farsan Mart. They're in the same "Little India" strip mall - this one in the Spices Grocery store. I've yet to eat the this brick and mortar version but the food truck was quite good. ----- Cafe Chloe Surati Farsan Mart Super Cocina Mariscos German |

Craving Butterscotch Ice Cream - where to find it near/around Talmadge Did you try calling Mariposa Ice Cream on Adams? ----- |
Oh, now Elizabethan Desserts is well worth the drive North - and one can then cut over to the beach and take the scenic ride back. Agreed on the Linkery's dessert menu - that lardo ice-cream sandwhich is worth the visit alone. ----- Elizabethan Desserts |

Maybe it's me - I always find Karen's Extraordinary Desserts to look incredibly amazing - I mean her cakes are works of art - but lacking in flavor and often incredibly dry. ----- |

Veg heads rejoice. Casa de Luz - a vegan, macrobioic restaurant and cooking school with a location in Austin, TX will be opening up this year in North Park in the old Woolworth's Building. There iz alzo rumorz of another vegetarian restaurant with two other locationz in San Diego opening up in North Park later thiz year. But we've been zworn to zecrecy. |

Where's everyone going for Valentine's Day? Cooking dinner at home for the wife. But I just came back from lunch at Cafe Chloe and their Valentine's Day dinner looked great while reading it. Of course, since I wasn't planning on going to it I have trouble recalling it now. Give them a call, I'm sure they'll read it to you over the phone. ----- |
