Xmas eve dinner recs in North Miami?

Timo in Sunny isles; Fuji Hana in Aventura are both open.

Kugel in Miami (Jewish comfort food)

You can buy it at Kosher Kingdom in Aventura, which I think has the best take-out of all the kosher markets.

Your favourite dishes at Michael's Genuine?

The whole grilled snapper is fantastic. I also love the beet salad, Brussels sprouts, devilled eggs and the dessert with the little doughnuts. It is one of my favourite places in Miami and is consistently wonderful.

Edible Canada at The Market- Wonderful!

I had the pleasure of dining at Edible Canada at the Market while in Vancouver last week. It was fantastic and very reasonably priced. It was a bone numbing rainy night, but the ambience was very cozy, comfortable and inviting. We opted for the $30.00 four course Fall Feast. I chose the market salad with pumpkin seeds, Vij's curry crusted rare tuna (small $3 up charge), ling cod with bok choy, and the spice cake. I had a Vanhattan cocktail. My mom had the same, but had the squash risotto instead of the tuna. The portions were very generous and we loved it and very stuffed. I will definitely be back.

Solo dining at the Bar near Burrard and Georgia

I would appreciate a recommendation for a great spot to eat solo at the bar near Burrard and Georgia on a week night. Many thanks

Looking for great Sushi/Japanese in Fidi or Battery Park.

Looking for great Sushi/Japanese in Fidi or Battery Park.

Thanks so much...I actually made a reservation at Sushi Azabu for the night before we go to the open. I guess we will wing it the next two nights, not knowing our timing ..maybe go to Terrior or Blue Smoke which don't take reservations anyway.

I made an alternative hotel reservation in midtown west (more $) and recall seeing a bunch of sushi places on west 55th, or thereabouts. Do any of these places, or others in the area stand out? My son will be with me and he has a huge appetite for sushi and Masa will therefore be out of the question.

Looking for great Sushi/Japanese in Fidi or Battery Park.

I'm looking for a great sushi/Japanese spot in the financial disteict or Battery Park. Would prefer not to go to the usual suspect "Nobu" in Tribeca.

I would also appreciate some recs. for two other restaurants in the area (Tribeca included) for Friday and Saturday dinners. We can't make a reservaton as we are going to the US Open tennis and do not know our ETA. Casual attire is a must. Many thanks in advance.

Halal at 6th Ave. and West 53rd?

Was just at Toloache this week.....fantastic. The restaurant week arugula salad with watermelon, and sea bass was fantastic. We also had a trio of ceviche, and a trio of guacamole and killer margaritas with jalapeƱo and cucumber. Thanks for all the recs on this board.

Guess I went to the wrong "stockyards" because my experience wasn't that great

My husband had the fried chicken and was seriously underwhlemed. Hhe thought their cole slaw was just ok.

One lunch in Baltimore

We will be in Baltimore next weekend for a family event and would love a rec for a late casual lunch on Friday. We are staying in Pikesville, but will have a car. It would be nice to go to the Inner Harbour if it makes sense. Many thanks.

Chimmichurri Chicken

I will be making a Chimmichurri marinated chicken for Passover with chicken breasts. Sorry, if in advance if this Is in the wrong board- I thought it was a "home cooking" type of post. I will have to roast the chicken, and will not be able to grill it as it is traditionally done. My thinking is 350 F uncovered, skin side up.. I can probably turn the broiler on at the end to crisp it up, and was going to marinate it for a day first in the Chimmichurri sauce and put some of the sauce under the skin. Thoughts on whether this should turn out nicely?

Messa Kosher Restuarant, Hollywood, Florida

Thx...I have never been to Aroma...will definitely check it out. The parking at Kosher Kingdom is indeed legendary. I try to go very early in the morning.. By the way, does anybody know if they sell Elite chocolate "flaky" bars in Florida? They are packaged ina plastic wrapper. I am coming down from Toronto before Pesach and usually buy a box of 24 up here, but can't seem to find them.

Messa Kosher Restuarant, Hollywood, Florida

I have never been to Cafe Emunah, but we went to Messa twice during Pesach last year and thought it was nice and very fairly priced. Our go to spot this year will probably be Grill Time in NMB. Have you ever been to Shalom Haifa on West Dixie...thoughts?

Need an Easy Baked Pesach Chicken recipe

I make a version of this roasted chicken recipe at home- it is from Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa. I put a whole lemon cut in half, a head of garlic cut in half , fresh thyme and fresh rosemary in the salt and pepper seasoned chicken cavity and put the chicken on a bed of parsnips, carrots and potatoes and roast it.. I then slice the brid after tenting and resting it, and serve with the veggies. My group at the seder don't eat dark meat and want low fat- hence skinless, boneless chicken breasts.

By the way, has anyone tried the Empire Rotisserie chicken that comes in a vacuum sealed bag that is microwaved? I saw an ad for it and am wondering how good it is.

Need an Easy Baked Pesach Chicken recipe

The salsa sounds great, especially with the veggies! It is almost like a cheater chicken cacciatore. Because I don't have a meat frying pan, I really need to use a sauce to immerse the boneless chicken in. A few years ago "at home" I made my own cranberry sauce and used orange juice instead of water, threw in some orange zest and sea salt and added caramelized onions and italian dressing and blanketed the chicken with this sauce. It was awesome. Problemis that in the Miami condo there is a profound lack of the Pesach "tools",

Messa Kosher Restuarant, Hollywood, Florida

Thanks so much for the info. The address of Messa (too bad about the closure) was 5650 Stirling...maybe I am confused, but thought I thought Aroma was in a plaza further west on Stirling and I am thinking of a different store. I am a regular at Jacob's and Kosher Kingdom....so nice to have the choices. When there's competition, the customer wins!

Messa Kosher Restuarant, Hollywood, Florida

I have tried in vain to reach Messa in Hollywood by telephone. Any news on whether it has closed? The number I dialed is out of service- 954-985-9909. We went there during Chol HaMoed Pesach last year and really liked it. Also in the same plaza (5650 Stirling Road), there was a great kosher market, and we took out some great items, but the name escapes me.

I have generally been having difficulty determing which restaurants will be open for Pesach (Miami Beach/NMB, Aventura and South Broward), and haven't come across a centralized database. Any and all information will be most helpful...thanks in advance.

Need an Easy Baked Pesach Chicken recipe

I will be making two seders in a condo in Miami. I will have very limited Pesach cooking supplies/utensils and would like to make two different chicken entrees- one for each night. I need to make the chicken in disposable aluminum foil pans and will only have a a mixing bowl, paring knife, small grater, measuring cup and spoon and the oven at my disposal (no food processor, broiling pan, or fleishig frying pan and spatula, etc). My soup pot is already going to be used for the soup. I will be making the std. apricot jam/onion soup/italian dressing recipe one night as it is a no-brainer. Would love another easy recipe, preferably with boneless chicken breasts.

There is a plethora of great Kosher takeout in Miami and will really be taking advantage of it for teh whole Chag, but I find re-heating prepared chicken isn't great, so would like to make the chicken.

Thanks so much in advance for some ideas.

Recs for Peruvian/Ceviche Aventura/North Miami Beach/Surfside/Hallandale/Hollywood

We ended up going to Adrianas which was ok, but, just. We split a tuna ceviche, a "Craziness salad" and a tuna entree. We really liked the Pisco Sours. We hit Sushi Samba last night and had the four ceviches and Peruvin corn which we really enjoyed. I saw the Mixtura review- definitely on the list.

Recs for Peruvian/Ceviche Aventura/North Miami Beach/Surfside/Hallandale/Hollywood

I am looking for a rec for Peruvian/Ceviche and do not have the time to travel down to Coral Gables/South Miami. We are in Aventura. In surfing this bord, El Gran Inka got good reviews. Somebody told me about Adrianas in Surfside. Would love to hear some 'Hounds opinions. Many thanks.

Sephardic Cooking Classes- Miami Area

I am looking to expand my cooking repetoire and would love to take some hands-on Sephardic/Syrian/Moroccon cooking classes during my time in South Florida. I called a few of the shuls in the Aventura area, and nobody knew of any classes. When "googling", I came across Aleppo classes, but they are held in brooklyn. Thanks very much in advance.

Sufganiyot - Miami/Ft. Lauderdale

I have seen ads for Sufganiyot (douhgnuts, for those not in the know) at Kosher Kingdom in Aventura and Jacob's Market in Gulfstream, Hallandale. I not sure about the quality, but there are many varieties besides jelly. Both of these places are kosher.

Midweek lunch near Ritz Carlton

I would appreciate some recs for a quick mid-week lunch near the Ritz Carlton (no more than ten minutes walking). Open to seafood, sushi, asian fusion or american. Thanks.

Pizza e Pazzi - St. Clair/Dufferin - New Neapolitan place

My husband and I went to Pizza e Pazzi on Sunday night, I had the arugula red pizza and he had a pepperoni. I also had a glass of red wine. We were early enough to not have to wait. We both loved the crust (as good as Libretto), but found it was skimpy on the cheese and I found the amount of arugula sparse. I ended up taking the cheese off half of my pie and my husband put it on the second half of his and he liked it much better. Perhaps this is sacreligious to "neopolitan" pizza, but I guess it boils down to personal taste. The wine was fabulous and very reasonable at $8/glass. It is a lovely spot and a very nice addition to the hood. Will we run back? Not for the pizza, but maybe for the pasta,

Rochester, MN - Where to EAT

Thanks for the quick response Stan. Re: Indian, I had a very bad experience with Indian food and it is still with me. Maybe therapy could help....!

I will be with my twenty-one year old son for the dinners, solo for the lunch. It will be a Sunday and Monday night and a Monday lunch. My son does not eat red meat, but loves fish, chicken etc. He is not a foodie per se, but appreciates good chow and exposure is always a positive thing. We are not going to be patients at the Mayo, thank goodness, but that is so smart to bring up the testing/fasting issue.

Do not mind spending $$$ for great food. Thx!
