Restaurant Closings in 2012
The gazette reporting that Thursday's is closing in the fall.
Best bar/casual restaurant near Trudeau airport (within 20 minute drive?)
I agree to a certain extent, but to each their own. It's what many quebecers (and visitors, obviously) want and that's what keeps them in business.
Best bar/casual restaurant near Trudeau airport (within 20 minute drive?)
nothing wrong with good, honest food. It's a chain and I know where to get better chicken, but they do their best.
Best canned, packaged or frozen soup
used to love the Habitant pea with ham, but find it too salty now. My go-to for chicken soup lately has been the low-salt St. Hubert chicken with rice. I even add a snip of dill to it sometimes.
Lawrence amanzing scrambled eggs recipe?!
google "french-style scrambled eggs" and you will get some tips. The trick is lower heat and slow cooking, to make small, creamy curds.
Tasty Foods
My last visit was about 3 years ago. Don't be scared, it's not horrible, it's a pizza joint with decent salads and 10" pizzas the way they've always made them. They've changed locations a couple of times, but for nostalgic purposes you should be satisfied.
Eats near the Bell Centre
McGill Plaza makes a thick, Montreal-style pizza & they do have smoked meat so you'd probably find your pizza there- it's also not too far away from the Bell Centre and the highway, so not too out of your way. I'd call to see if they'll still be open after your show.

Favorite Chicken Salad Sandwich
beauty's used to add some fresh dill, which I loved... on pumpernickel bread, toasted. not sure if they still do the dill.
last w/e I tried my mom's CSS at the Olde Orchard on Monkland, and it was awesome! chicken was very finely chopped, mayo, very fine green onion and celery, on a toasted ciabatta-type roll. Their sandwich is, I think, 9.99 and comes with a cup of soup and fries or salad. Great deal, IMO- good beer and a sunny terrasse doesn't hurt either.
(btw I had the fish and chips which I would not order again)
If I say RUE Jean-Talon OUEST (west) between DECARIE and St-Laurent in Montreal

hummus & pita chips
peanut butter
whippet cookies (a quebec treasure!)
ice cream

I had such a problem with these that I started making my own pita chips to save money ( and salt and fat too...)
In Praise of the Fish Sandwich
I live in Canada, so what I do is read labels, look for the one with the most actual fish, and least filler, salt & fat.
In Praise of the Fish Sandwich
another filet o' fish fan here, and once in a while, when craving junk, I make them at home. good quality fishsticks, american cheese, lettuce, and homemade tartar sauce (mayo, lemon juice, finely chopped dill pickle and capers). YUM.
All-time favorite, though, is the grouper sandwich from Frenchy's in Clearwater.
URGENT: ISO Whole Smoked turkey on the bone (Montreal)

avocado oil in Montreal?
they only made the black label available in certain markets, actually. I'd check their website to see which stores carry it.
Best Choclatier in Montreal?
does your gf like beer? If so, get her a Kriek beer from Fromagerie Atwater (cherry). Goes great with chocolate!
Chicken Julienne Salad WHERE in the South Shore Can I get one???
sounds like what I call a chef salad. there's little to no chance you'll find that exact salad anywhere, unless yo go to a salad bar or one of those food-court salad places.
IGA & metro sell prepared salads with cuke, tomato, and cheese, you could always add ham, chicken, and egg to that.
High Tea
gryphon is not sophistcated, elegant, or posh. It's more cozy, rustic, homey.
Hershey's Chocolate Shell ice cream topping?
Not sure if it was Hershey's, but they definitely have the shell stuff at Metro Westmount.
I'm a purist and lovelovelove the Hershey sauce in the yellow can.
What goes good with chili?
I like mine on basmati with cheddar on top. leftovers on a crispy baked potato w/ cheese & sour cream.
I'm Looking For Lardo.....
If anyone has it, it would be Milano, 6700 St. Laurent, or Capitol in the Jean Talon Market.
toronto boy visting montreal for a week: feedback on itinerary would be great!
I have a recent nitpick with St. V giving me those thin grocery produce bags with my bagels, both at the factory and on Monkland. Chintzy.
I also slice then freeze. double-bagged they last a long time and taste pretty fresh after a toasting.
