Madrid dining question-what is Asturian food?

Hi and thanks again. Los Asturianos was on my long list so I will revisit. One evening we planned on tapas and wanted to try Txirimiri for Basque food and Xentes for Galician food. I studied in Madrid many years ago and lived with 2 Galician viudas and have had my share of cod! Keep the regional recommendations coming.
I enjoy albarino - have never tried orujo-que es?

Madrid dining question-what is Asturian food?

Morekasha, thanks for the explanation. We won' t be in Madrid on a Sunday. With only 4 dinners in Madrid, would you focus on Asturian food? We will be in Sevilla for 3 evenings so figure we will have the Andalusian food down. My dinners in Madrid are posing issues-we have Laredo for our first dinner on a Monday and then 2 evenings with Lua. Am looking for other dinners...thanks for any recommendations.

Madrid dining questions for May trip

Hi. Will be in Madrid for 4 nights. We are renting an apartment in Latina, near Calle Cava Baja. We will arrive from 3 nights in Sevilla where we will eat more tapas than sit down meals. Since we arrive on a Monday, I secured a dinner reservation at Laredo (lamb for me and sucking pig for DH). Lua with wine tasting is reserved for Tues and Thurs. A colleague of mine just returned after I recommended Lua and said it was the best meal of his life and his only regret was not being able to eat there twice since the menu changes daily. Lua will be a big dinner so doubt we will go tapas hopping before that. Figured we'd stay nearby on Wed evening and try some tapas on Cava Baja and eat at Casa Lucas.
I prefer to know where i am eating lunch but realize we are in Madrid for a short time and hope to find good meals near where we will be at the time.
Any other suggestions if we do not eat at Lua twice? Sacha looks interesting...Any feedback? Thanks

el brillante in madrid

Hi. We arrive from US at 7am and have 11 am train to Sevilla. Am sure we will have time so want to grab some food for train. I understand El Brillante is across from Atocha - would it be open around 9 for a bocadillo de calamari?

spain breakfasts

Hi. Will be in Spain for 8 days (Madrid and Sevilla) in late May. If lunch isn't until 2, what do we do for breakfast? I hear that a piece of toast and coffee is the typical breakfast. Our apartment in Sevilla is in the Arenal and we are near Calle Cava Baja in Madrid. Will we find spots to grab a tortilla sandwhich or ham sandwhich for breakfast? Thanks

seville restaurants open sunday dinner

Hi Azahar. I have used your website extensively in our planning. Sunday dinner is our only issue now. Excellent tapas will do just fine. Seems a good number of places are open for lunch but not dinner. We will see the first show and Casa de la Memoria and then hope to eat the last of our delicious meals in Sevilla! Thanks

Dinners in Madrid

JuanDoe, have been reading your recommendations hungrily. Had planned on a dinner at Laredo our first evening ( a Monday when many choices are closed) for the lamb (for me) and sucking pig experience (for my husband). How does this compare with El Senador?
We will be arriving in Madrid for 4 nights late May after 3 nights of tapas experience. Lua is also on my list. I recommended it to a colleague who just returned from Spain. He thought it might have been the best meal of his ife and recommended I book it twice!
Susan, we are staying in your recommended apartment. El Cisne Azul looks great for lunch and Calle Brava will be dinner one night-am focused on Casa Lucas, Xentes and Txirimiri for tapas.
Need to fit a few more lunches and perhaps one more dinner. Thalnks for any and all recommendations.

madrid dining questions

Erica, again, thanks. I had noted some openings in your postings and this is a big help!
Have you ever done a tapas tour? I was considering it but since we only have 3 nights in Sevilla, and we will eat almost anything, I figure that the uncertainty and experimenting will be part of the fun! I am most excited about Azotea and Bar Eslava!
I do know VIneria San Telmo is open on Sunday but am cautious given your review. It will be our last meal there and want to end it on a high note.
CathyDM is going to Sevilla in March and will report back on her finds.

madrid dining questions

Erica, thanks for the clarification. I have read your reports (this and last year!). Last year you visited Pura Tasca in Sevilla and raved and this year it was not on your report-any reason? It seems their 11 courses are no more.
Did you eat at a few tapas bars and then sit down to a large meal at 9:30 or do you do multiple tapas bars or a sit down dinner?
Any suggestions for our last meal in Sevilla given that it is a Sunday. Will most tapas bars be open but restaurants closed?
When I first started planning the trip, I was more excited about Madrid dining but almost wish we were in Sevilla 4 nights given the near-ecstasy I am anticipating in Sevila!!

madrid dining questions

Hi. Will be in Spain for 8 days in May to celebrate husband's 50th. We enjoy good food and comfortable (not very formal eg: Michelin 3 star) setting. DH won't eat eggs. Other than that we are open minded.
We will be in Sevilla for 3 nights (Fri-Mon) and in Madrid for the next 4 evenings. I assume we will be eating mostly tapas in Sevilla. Would like to do at least one tapas meal in Madrid (Retiro area.) We rented an apt near Calle Brava but seems the Retiro tapas are superior.
I have been reading Juan Doe's blogs and have some questions on Madrid dining. Some of the Madrid restaurants I have narrowed down (Lua, Club Allard) are listed as restaurants and others (Laredo, Arzabal) are listed as bars. I have read reviews where folks have listed Lardeo or Arzabal as dining options.
Can you please help clarify. Thanks
