ISO soup dumplings...in LA or OC

Hi - I had some, or what was proported to be them, at Daisy Mint in Pasadena. I'm not sure how much liquid is supposed to be in them, there wasn't much, but I really liked the flavors. We were instructed to bite them open and sip out the liquid.

The Edison, early Friday evening--a good idea?

Good idea to go early, I don't think it will be too crowded on a Friday after work - have you tried calling for a reservation? It's a pretty big space. I went around 8 last Saturday and all the tables had "reserved" placards on them, we spoke with a waiter and he gladly let us sit at one as long as we promised to get up before the 9:30 reservation arrived - which gave us a good hour to eat. The tesla fries are yummy!

Philly's Best Opening in Pasadena (Del Mar Station)

My boyfriend swears by it, hope it lives up to the hype!

220 S. Raymond Avenue, Suite 120
Pasadena, CA 91105

pasadena discovery

I tried it too and had a great meal. The panang curry with pumpkin was to die for, I will definitely order this again. I prefer the tom kah soup at City Thai, but it was decent and the crab/cream cheese wontons were tasty, but I don't know how authentic those are. Staff was very friendly and the atmosphere charming. Too bad someone etched graffiti in the front window :(

Kaya Sushi - Marina Del Rey

When I went there 3+ years ago, it was a Korean/Japanese fusion restaurant - I remember having some very good kim chi alongside my sushi.

Help me w/ the name of a bar on Sunset in Los Feliz/Silverlake

I can't remember the name of this bar for the life of me - I do remember that it was numbers (displayed in neon signage), presumably the numbers of the address, and I'm pretty sure it was on Sunset - I vaguely recall getting off the 101 at Rampart and making my way up to Sunset to get to it???

It was a one story, brick building, dark inside, great bar...

Help!

J. J.'s Pasadena - Any Good? Other Steak Choices?

I was going to recommend Taylor's too. Love the Molly salad, seconfd the ribeye.

Variations on Chili Cheese Fries

In high school we used to fill a bag of fritos with chili from the lunch truck! Classy and gassy...

Date with husband, need help!

Little Door is romantic and delicious

Wheatberry in Pasadena

I had no idea turkeys were rare birds, thank you for enlightening me.

If you care to help endanger the species, try Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Bristol Farms, Gelson's or pretty much any higher end grocery store. Gobble, gobble.

Wheatberry in Pasadena

Hmmm, I had lunch here and was disappointed. My turkey wrap was made out of pressed, rather than freshly carved turkey and was overall very tasteless. Perhaps I had a bum meal though.

Just around the corner on Colorado is Euro Pane, which in my opinion, has excellent pastries and breakfast goodies. If you're looking for omelettes and such, I like Heirloom which is in South Pasadena on the corner of Meridian and Mission near the Metro tracks. Happy Breakfasting!

Houston's Pasadena

me too - that's my favorite! The mint really makes it interesting.

Best Eggplant dish?

I enjoy Il Fornaio's Carpaccio Melanzane - grilled eggplant, roasted red and yellow peppers, goat cheese, kalamata olives, basil, capers, balsamic reduction, extra-virgin olive oil. It's a light meal, but full of great flavors.

Outrageous Behaviour in Restuarants-NYT

At Cobras y Matadors, a fun tapas bar in LA, a couple next to me and my boyfirend were acting quite odd. It seems the male liked it when his girlfriend sang opera to him in a falsetto voive, because she was doing that in his ear and he had an "o" face - you know - eyes closed, face squinted in pleasure.

Yikes, my boyfriend and I could hardly refrian from laughing.

BED,BATH, & BEYOND

Don't know if you're already done or if you have one by you, but Sur La Table was having a major sale on their knives when I went in on Monday.

Help! I have to "meet the parents" and bring dessert!

How about strawberry shortcakes or angel food cake topped with real whipped cream and summer berries, like blueberries and raspberrys. Both of these are summery and light and involve fruit.

Best Happy Hour in Old Town Pasadena?

I like BODEGA in the Paseo for happy hour. I like their food (particularly the tuna & cracker plate), selection of drinks and the outside patio. Food and drink specials everyday from 4-7 pm. http://www.bodegawinebar.com/specials.html

I have been meaning to try Monday nights at Union Cattle Co. when all apps are 1/2 off.

If you want to venture down to the Rose Bowl, I noticed that Brookside has a serious happy hour promotion going on - something like $1 beers from 5pm until closing every day of the week! Might not be the crowd your looking for though.

What discounts/coupons do you know about?

Don't forget about Rubio's $1 fish tacos on Tuesdays (after 2:30pm) - that's a good deal!

Celadon or Cobras and Matadors

I think Celadon might be better if a nice long dinner where you can hear each other is what you're after. The times I've been to C & M, it's been loud and crowded - but that may just be because we go later in the evening.

Falooda in South Bay or Pasadena

Yes, I was just there yesterday and asked -they do not serve the drink, only the ice cream. I have had the drink in Artesia, but boy is that a drive from Pasadena! I guess we have to make our own!

What's the name of the restaurant between Sharky's and The Vitamin Shoppe on Lake, Pasadena?

Thank you! Here's their website: http://www.hanagrill.com/

What is with the smell at Subway??

ziggylu - it's marketing strategy, it's supposed to smell like a New York subway! Just kidding ~ hasn't bothered me before, but now it probably will!

I cannot stand the smell of 7-11's and other quickie marts- ugh, must they alway smell like expired hotdogs and vomit?!

Too Many Coconut Flakes!!

SInce it's a going away party I assume she's travelling? How about some tropical trail mix for her adventure?

Which Frozen Dinner is your favorite?

I like LeanCusine's brick oven style gourmet mushroom pizza - it really gets crispy in the microwave!

Caterer for a small budget

Will you have access to a kitchen? What's your venue? If you do, you could get a bunch of frozen apps from costco, trader joe's etc...

Pinkberry Locations

On that little side street that splits off Barrington (behind the Starbucks) near the corner of San Vicente - so kind of next to Whole Foods

Having a Pool Party -- Would Sangria be a good alternative to blender drinks?

Sangria is a great choice. Also, I went to an outdoor bbq at which, along with the standard cervezas and soft drinks, the served Pimms Cup from a pitcher - it was really refreshing, similar to iced tea with a cucumber infusion.

This is one recipe from FoodNetwork.com, but there are many variations...

Ice cubes
2 ounces Pimms Number 1 Cup
6 ounces ginger ale
2 ounces lemon lime soda or club soda
1/4 cup cucumber pieces or 1 cucumber spear

Put ice in a highball glass or mug. Add the Pimms and then the ginger ale and soda. Stir and garnish with cucumber. Serve.

Debate: tea at your workstation?

I make a lot of "iced tea" at work, actually it's just a tea bag (usually Good Earth cinammon) in a water bottle filled with cold water. It's so refreshing and encourages me to rink more water throughout the day. It's not the most proper of tea prepration, but I enjoy it.
