Restaurant ideas in Annandale near Little River Tpke

I would definetely have to reccomend you, Hee Been, a wonderful Korean restaurant. I don't know if you are familiar with Korean food but you should try it if you haven't. You have the option of either ordering off the menu, eating buffet, or going to the bar area. They also have a whole section for parties, and a back section for private parties. Atmosphere is great also :)

Ara in Annandale

I find the combos to be a pretty good deal.
The breaded and fried pork there is also pretty good.

One thing that is ironic but I really enjoyed was the traditional korean lunch box. It comes in a hot metal container. The stuff you get are rice, sausage, a fried egg, and hot kimchi.. Im guessing the heated container simultaneously cooks the food inside. Not bad.

Favorite Lunch Buffet in NOVA?

As far as lunch buffet, there are a couple of places, but I think Hee Been hits the mark for what you've been looking for.

Great ambiance and good food. The buffet is in a big square shape, seperated by vegetable and cold dishes section, the hot foods section, sushi section, and meats.

Ara in Annandale

Squids do have legs, and yes, honestly im not too sure exactly what position it is in relation to calamari rings. However ill tell you that the deep fried squid legs at ARA are definetely a good dish to eat with some alcohol. I believe they are at the other end though

Ara in Annandale

Thread starter must have eaten lunch here and walked right over to Dolce for dessert :P

anyways, Ara is the new hotspot for young Asians these days. I came here one night, and it was BANANAS. the WHOLE venue was basically PACKED. hiphop music playing. lots of girls dressed up like theyre going clubbing.

So basically Ara has several identities as:

1) restaurant
2)bar
3)karaoke rooms/private party

Let me warn you guys: DO NOT COME HERE ON A WEEKEND NIGHT IF YOU WANT A QUIET MEAL.

I'd say anytime from lunch to 8 or 9 is fine..Luckily, non-party hours they tone down the hiphop music and replace it with quieter..and it feels like a very trendy looking restaurant.

As for the food itself:

Ara boasts an array of UNIQUE dishes that I have not seen in korean restaurants before.
Like the thread starter, I have tried the okonomiyaki...and mmmmm it's wonderful with a bottle of soju. Likewise the deep fried squid legs with wasabi mayo is good food to eat with drinks. I also enjoy the various stews that they have.. My favorite being the one where they serve a huge pot of red kimchi soup with various sausages, veggies, and the ramen noodles.

Thumbs Up for ARA, especially if you want a place where you can drink and have good Korean/Fusion food.

Dolce & You in Annandale

I remember when I first discovered this wonderful place sometime around last year, which is when they first opened.

The decor and ambiance is absolutely wonderful here. It's a great place to bring your date to. I also agree with you about the coffee, they actually bring you two pieces of cake/pastry, and a crystal-like stick of sugar. The presentation's pretty nice.

The cakes they have here are a delight on the eyes also. What surprised me most from my visits here is that their paninis are very good.

Their dolce bingsoo is quite a feast for the eyes, but be careful if you order it because its huge.

I don't know why but this place really sets the mood for a cozy romantic night out during winter :)

vietnamese noodles with toppings?! help!

Hey guys I recently saw an episode of Bizarre foods when Zimmern
takes a trip to Vietnam.

In one part he eats the typical vietnamese rice noodles dry.
and then he has a hot pot of some sort with fish, veggies, and sauce.

as the food cooks he takes a bit of it and eats it with his dry bowl of
rice noodles.

anyone know if there is anything like this in Manhattan?

EXTREME craving for it!

thanks a bunch :)

Reccomendations for Tacos?

Hello I'm just wondering what you guys would reccomend are the best joints to have some good tacos around here?

thanks :)

New Gem Discovered in Annandale!!

Different from my usual trips to Shilla Bakery, I recently discovered a new spot right next to it called Dolce & You.

When I entered the cafe the atmosphere felt very classy. I was loving the artwork that they have on the walls. I would categorize Dolce as cafe/food outlet? because while they are a cafe that serves beverage and dessert treats, they also specialize in CURRY and PASTA.

When I asked for reccomendations the korean worker there told me that their pasta is actually a different kind of pasta than what we Americans usually indulge in. He told me that the pasta at Dolce is actually made in a way that is fushioned up in a Korean method. When my white, seafood pasta came out (i forget what it is called there..i think it was seafood pasta?) maybe it was my imagination but the dish IS italian food yet it looked very CUTE and asian to me. As for the taste...the dish was definetely a delight... The taste of the sauce was perfectly blended in with the noodles. My friend got the vegetable curry...which I didn't get to taste but looked pretty good, it looked different from the usual indian curries I've tasted.

We got coffee which comes with your meal if you order the combo. The coffee came out with cute little pieces of asian mini-cakes.

Me and My friend also ordered a seperate dessert called "Dolce Bingsoo"...which was HUGE and too much for the both of us. "Bing Soo" is a korean dessert consisting of shaved ice, sweet beans(?), fruit, and ice cream. I DEFINETELY reccomend this dish, I literally felt guilty eating it because the treat itself is such a delight to look at.

I definetely give this establishment a thumbs up :) I will be visiting this cafe often whenever I'm in Virginia. It's classy yet when I entered the place it was very casual and comfortable. My reccomended dishes are the bingsoo's and pasta (which are actually the only selections I've tried there so far).

bubble tea shops in northern VA, DC ?

Hey :)

If you want good bubble tea go to Shilla Bakery located on Little River Turnpike near Popeyes.

They're bubble tea is really good because the consistency of their liquid is more like a smoothie/slushie.

It's not the best place for studying but you should check it out, they have great bubble tea :)
