Best Houston Burgers

I'm a Houston native, but spend a lot of time in CA and was thrilled to see that The Counter recently opened on Washington Ave.! They are all about the huge variety of choices offered, high quality meat (no hormones, antibiotics, etc.), cool but laid back atmosphere (definitely family friendly too) - a good fit for the Heights.

I love going there because I can have a different meal experience everytime and know that it will be executed well. The other night I had 1/3 beef burger (they also have turkey, chicken, and veggie patties), on a multigrain bun, with feta, mixed greens, scallions, sauteed mushrooms, and tzatziki sauce. I have a business lunch there tomorrow and plan on getting the veggie patty (vegan and fully made in house) in a bowl. I believe they make almost everything in house.

Definitely a fun spot. They also have a great beer selection and great priced wines by the glass and bottles.

Late night downtown options?

I've ordered delivery from Lers Ros several times. Quick and reliable.

A16's chef's counter would be a great place to dine solo.

Brunch spot?

Wholeheartedly second Backstreet Cafe. On a recent brunch trip on a rainy Saturday afternoon, on top of being normally busy there was a wedding brunch going on as well in their private room. My husband and I were happily surprised to receive extremely attentive service by the staff and general manager. Delicious, high-quality food and customer service are obvious top priorities here.

New Yorkers come to San Fran…Girls only getaway!

I wish I could take the credit regarding Sonoma vs. Napa, but that was chuckl's comment :)

Would appreciate some input on trip itin

Flour + Water does accomodate walk-ins if you don't mind waiting. My husband and I arrived at 9pm this past Sunday without reservations and waited for about 45 min. Well worth the wait, though. The osso pizza with roasted bone marrow and fontina was sublime, and the minted tagliatelle was irresistable...

New Yorkers come to San Fran…Girls only getaway!

If you are around for a brunch, I highly recommend Foreign Cinema in the Mission. The space is totally unexpected from the outside and definitely something you would expect in NYC - bright, sunny, high ceilings, with a beautiful outdoor patio. Wonderful service, killer bloody mary's, and well executed, delicious food. We recently enjoyed a plate of smoked salmon (I think it had a mayo based curry sauce with it), roasted calamari, dungeoness crab fritatta, and a lovey omelet with herbs and cheese.

Best food and free wifi??

Atlas Cafe in the Mission (or maybe it's Potrero). I recently had their smoked trout sandwich with fig chutney and it was absolutely delicious. I find their whole menu to be creative with unique combinations. The vibe is casual and relaxed, and yes they have free wifi. Cash only.

Casual dinner in Soma or Mission

Thanks for all the recommendations and so quickly! We went to Limon Rotisserie and it was exactly what we needed. Delicious food, casual relaxed atmosphere, fun vibe, and an incredible value...half a chicken, two small plates, and 4 sangrias with tax and tip came out to $60!

Casual dinner in Soma or Mission

Thanks, lannanh, but it looks like Lolo is closed on Sundays. We're moving here, so I'll keep it on my list!

Any other suggestions?

Casual dinner in Soma or Mission

My husband and I are in SF for one night and are looking for a casual dinner place. We've had a full day apt hunting and didn't get a chance to do our restaurant research and would greatly appreciate all of your help.

We're looking for a casual, yet fun (we're in our early 30's), dinner in Soma or Mission and would like to get out for about $50-60 total, if possible. We're staying at the Palace Hotel and have a car. We're open to any type of cuisine except Indian and sushi. Thanks!

West Los Angeles -- Tonight!

Pizzicotto could work. I'm not sure if they take reservations, but I've always walked in and have never waited more than 5 minutes.

Westside Burgers-Counter, Hole in the Wall, Father's Office Tavern, What Else?

I fully agree with your thoughts on The Counter, Tavern, Father's Office, and Hole in the Wall. With that said, I've also enjoyed the burger at Westside Tavern. The meat was juicey and nicely charred, caramelized onions were a delicious touch, and the bun held up and didn't disintegrate. And Houston's...their burgers are consistently delicious.

Santa Monica, Abbot Kinney, or Main St. dinner recommendations

I am entertaining friends from NYC on Wednesday for dinner. I am looking for a place with good, quality food (no sushi or Thai), fun scene (but not pretentious), reasonably priced (entrees in the mid-20's range), and maybe an outdoor space. They are staying in Santa Monica, so I was thinking somewhere there or Abbot Kinney/Main St. would be fun areas for them. Any suggestions? I tried making reservations at Gjelina, but they don't have anything until 9:45pm, which is too late. Thank you!

Tart Frozen Yogurt Wars Have Begun in DC

I haven't been to TangySweet, but have tried Sweetgreen, Pinkberry, and Red Mango's yogurt. I was at Mr. Yogato on opening day and personally I liked the yogurt far more than any of the other fro-yos that I've tried. I heard a few comments about the flavors being undistinguishable, but I think that might just be personal preference. I appreciated the subtle mango flavor of one of the varieties because it let me taste mango as well as the classic tartness of this type of frozen yogurt.

As with most new concepts, there were a few operational kinks, however I'm confident the operators will use the first week or two to identify and rectify those problems. I appreciated the owners/partners/helpers genuine enthusiasm.

Domo Arigato, Mr. Yogato!

Dinner for 15 in Philly

My family will be visiting me in about a month and I'm charged with making dinner reservations for a Friday night in Philly. We'll be approximately 15 people including a few under 10, a few in their late teens-early twenties, a few close to 30, parents, and a grandmother. I'd like to stay away from Indian and sushi, but we're open to any other ethnic cuisine or American fare. I'd like to stay in the $25-$30 range per person without alcohol. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Group brunch in DC

Any suggestions for a Sun. brunch in DC for a group of 20? We're trying to keep it $20 max including tax and tip....is this impossible? Thank you!

What's the Pink Teacup and what's Maroon's???

I haven't been to Pink Teacup, but I can tell you that Maroons is fantastic. Their jerk chicken is juicy, tender, and moist and their mac 'n cheese is rich and hearty with a nice spicy kick. I absolutely love Maroons!
