Rising Sun Inn - good bison restaurant?

We've been buying bison meat from Hillside Farms in Telford and noticed that they have a restaurant called Rising Sun Inn. Has anyone tried it? We're planning on going on Saturday night. The bison meat that we buy is delicious so we're hoping that the restaurant is good too.

Greek / Turkish / Armenian grocer in Phila ?

Thanks JohnnyT. I'll definitely check it out.

Greek / Turkish / Armenian grocer in Phila ?

Johnny T - can you tell us the name of the Turkish Grocery on Bristol PIke? Or where on Bristol Pke it is located? Thanks.

Grass-fed Beef and Free-range Eggs in Lancaster

I'm not that familiar with Lancaster, but there is a great site - eatwild.com which lists farms throughout the area that sell free-range beef, pork, lamb. I get my eggs and chickens from Hendricks in Telford....not sure how far that would be for you.

Greek / Turkish / Armenian grocer in Phila ?

Welcome to Philly! It's not middle eastern, but Claudio's on 9th Street in the Italian market has a great assortment of cheeses, and feta from several different countries. You can sample them and get the one that best suits your taste for saltiness and texture. Also, Bitar's is on 10th and Federal. I don't think they have a big selection of feta, but they are a Lebanese market and you'll be able to get lots of other middle eastern goodies there. It's the one place I've found with fresh filo dough. Another good place to visit is the Reading Terminal market on Arch and 10th??? I think that's where it is. If you do a lot of your own cooking, you'll love it.
Happy shopping!

Chima - 19th & JFK

We went the other night and were also underwhelmed. The place was crowded, I think most of the tables had the coupon. When we got our bill, an 18% tip was "suggested". We thought the service was good and didn't have a problem tipping 18% on what the total of the bill would have been without the coupon. However, we won't be back....we love picunyha and find the meats to be much more flavorful there and the salad bar, while smaller, to be more authentic. If you can save room for dessert - they are also awesome at Picunyha. We all agree with Cheflynnie that the meats at Chima all tasted the same. The lamb was particularly flavorless.

La Vang - Vietnamese-French in Willow Grove

We tried it a few month ago and had mixed reviews. There were four of us; two of our appetizers were great/2 weren't. Two dinners were delicious/ 2 weren't that good. Unfortunately, I can't remember what we had. My advice would be if you go and aren't impressed....try again and order different things. The good dishes really were outstanding.

Wing Lee - Horsham PA - Review

If you live near Horsham, you should really try Yama Restaurant in a strip mall on Horsham Road and Norristown. The sushi is very fresh and the prices very reasonable. His rolls are some of the best I've ever had.

Need pig roast outfitter in Chester County

I know you said Chester County, but Blooming Glen in Montgomery County specializes in pork and will do the whole roast pork and sides. You can either just buy the prepared food and serve it yourself; or they can supply all the servers, dishes, forks, etc....

Grass-fed beef

Glad to see people jumping on the grass-fed bandwagon! The more demand, the more farmers will switch over. There is a great site called eat-wild.com that provides a list by state of all the farmers who have grass-fed beef. We go to Hendrickson farms for their raw milk, yogurt and butter. We get our eggs and chickens there too. And they offer grass-fed beef from other farms. If you like yogurt, theirs is out of the world. It is a little thin for me, so I strain it in a coffee filter to thicken it, but the flavor is wonderful. Also, there is a farm called PurelyFarms that sells grass-fed beef, pork and lamb. Their info is on eat-wild.com. I don't think they have their own website. Finally, there is a bison farm in Telford, I can't remember the name. Good luck! Let us know if you find additional good sources.

Sushi in Horsham/Willow Grove

I am so glad people are starting to discover Yama Sushi. Jay is the same owner as Jumbo Sushi. He worked for years in NYC and still goes there every morning for his seafood. His sushi and sashimi are always fresh; however, for a real treat get his rolls. They are awesome! My favorite is the Tequila Sunset with avocado, eel and spicy tuna. Actually, anything with his spicy tuna is great. We've never been for lunch, but go at dinner and it is always quiet. He does a good take-out business, but I would love to see more people stay for dinner. It would make the place livlier. He changed the name to Yama when he added some Korean dishes to the menu. He now has BiBimBob and Bulgoki.

Picanha Brazilian Grill in NE Philly

We went last night around 7:30 and the place was pretty crowded. We've been three times already and last night was by far the best. They had a Brazilian duo, Minas, who have been in the philly area for decades and they definitely added to the atmosphere. Early in the evening there were alot of Brazilian families, later in the evening a bit rowdier crowd, but boisterous in a fun way. We brought limes and cachaca rum and they make a delicious drink from it, be careful - it packs a punch and could be why the crowd was a bit more boisterous as the night went on. The advantage of going when it is crowded is that the meat comes off the grill and is immediately served, so it is juicy and hot when you get it. We've been on a slow night, where the waiters walked around with the meat for awhile and it got cold. The short ribs and flank steak are outstanding, the sausage was slightly spicy and the chicken was some of the best I've had. One down note for Mirangela is that the bathrooms are not handicapped accessible and definitely would not accomodate a wheelchair. So unless they have a handicapped bathroom that I didn't see, it might be difficult to bring your grandmother. Out total tab for 6 all-you-can-eat was $139.50 which included 5 desserts and tax. It's hard to save room for dessert, but they are not to be missed....my favorite is the coconut cake, if you like chocolate - go for the little chocolates that look like large truffles.

Picanha Brazilian Grill in NE Philly

We're going tomorrow night, so I'll report in on Saturday if it is handicapped accessible. I think the kids would like it, if they don't eat beef, they can have chicken. but, if they are meat eaters, I think they would think it is fun to have the waiters slicing the meat at the table right off the skewers. The drink they make with rum and limes is great, but be careful, it really packs a punch!

Dinner in blue bell

There was just a post about the Magnolia Cafe..it's about 15 minutes from Allison's but worth the drive. The food is consistently delicious. For $$$, you shouldn't have to worry about an off night. As for the Mexican, I prefer Tamarindos over El Serape. Of course, if you just want gaucamole, chips and margaritas - then El Serape is fun. I went to La Cava when it first opened and thought it was delicious, but haven't been in several years. We always found the owner amusing, but I know others found him to be obnoxious. I'm glad you like Thai Orchid, we've never been, but we're going on Saturday.

Asuka/Gaya in Blue Bell

This new restaurant just popped up on Zagat's. Other than what I posted below, does anyone know anything about it? Has any one been yet? It sounds interesting, and I've just starting eating Korean BBQ at Kim's on Cheltanham Ave. Can anyone tell me how they compare?

From Zagat's:
Dark-wood tables topped with high-tech grills for smokeless Korean BBQ are firing up both the Korean community and other locals at Gaya, a big, bright DIY specialist that's twinned with neighboring Asuka in a renovated Blue Bell landmark; diners opting to leave the cooking to the kitchen – run by a recent immigrant from Korea – have choices including hot pots, stews and made-to-order noodles (1002 Skippack Pike; 215-654-8300).

Historic stonework contrasts with contemporary spotlighted tables at Asuka, the handsome Japanese that shares a front door and kitchen with Gaya; there’s the requisite sushi bar and midpriced lunch and dinner menus brimming with tempura, teriyaki and sukiyaki (1002 Skippack Pike; 215-654-8900).

Korean Fried Chicken on Welsh Road?

Great! I'll check out the chicken at ASSI. I love the market, so now I have one more reason to go. Thanks everyone!

Korean Fried Chicken on Welsh Road?

We went to Soho Cafe on Cheltanham Ave. to try thier bonchon fried chicken wings. Awesome and totally worth the drive. However, the waitress told us that there was a place on Welsh Road that served the same style chicken wings even though they aren't part of the bonchon franchise. Does any one know of a place like that on Welsh Road? If its true - that would be a dream come true, as we live in Ambler. And, for anyone who hasn't had these chicken wings yet - you must try them.

Drinks in Center City

Thanks for the tips. We were at the Ritz for drinks over the holidays - and you're right, the atmosphere is terrific. We'll be 3 couples, friends since college, so looking for something more fun and upbeat, rather than quiet and romantic. I should have said that in the original post....also, college was a loooong time ago, so someplace were over 40's will feel comfortable.

Drinks in Center City

We're going to La Fontana Della Citta on 17 and Spruce tonight for dinner. What's a good place nearby for pre-dinner drinks?

All Natural Duck (or Goose)

Check out a website called eatwild.com - they have a list of all the farms in the area that feed their animals grass or natural foods. Also, we bought a goose from Illgs on Folly Road. (yes, the German butcher shop) I can't remember the name of the Goose farm, but it was all natural. If I can remember the name, I'll repost. One other website to try is Willowcreek Orchards. I know they sell naturally raised Chickens, (not sure about geese) from local farms.

Nice restaurant for after the opera

I really enjoyed the show too, you never know when its a brand new Opera, but I thought the music was beautiful and Cyrano was a good actor as well as singer. We used to do dinner pre-theater, and like you, I found myself nodding off before the end. Although I feel like a blue-hair and an early bird special diner, I love going afterwards - you don't have to worry about the time, restaurants usually have open tables because it is so early, and you can drink as much as you want!! MMMM, haven't been to Monks in awhile - you have me wishing for beer and frites!!

Nice restaurant for after the opera

Many thanks to Piko for recommending Brasserie Perrier. We went last night. They now also have a 3 course meal for $33.00 on Sundays. Several of us had the smoked salmon appetizer, which was a large portion and silky smooth and delicious. I had the crispy Branzino with lentils and broccoli rabe, others had steak and chicken. If you are a big eater, I would not get the chicken as it was quite small. The other dinners were normal sized. Everyone was quite pleased with their dinners and for dessert we had creme brulee, home made ice cream and an apple tart. The waiter was very attentive. All in all, between the fixed price menu and the BYOB - it was a very affordable way to enjoy a delicious meal.

Jack's Bar in Belmar

We've been a few times. The barmaid is the owner's wife and very friendly. Definitely order a screwdriver - the OJ is delicious. It is a very local place, esp. in winter. But I always find the "regulars" to be pretty chatty with whoever is sitting next to them. I've heard the food is good, but we haven't tried it yet. Let us know what you think!

handicapped accessible lunch - Neptune/asbury park area

Stack - thanks for the suggestions! Brennan's sounds like it would be right up my dad's alley. I looked Jimmy's up online - it is open for lunch, but prices seem steep - is the food worth it? Also, on 35 South is Jameson's, there's a blog on here that says the bbque there is great, so if your folks are ok with very casual, that's a lunch option too. If you cont. down 35 south, Sunsets is right on the water (where the Old Tides Cafe used to be, just past Headliner) and they are also open for lunch and have a patio to watch the boats and the sunsets in nice weather. Bradley Beach has tons of good restaurants, but the only one I could find open for lunch is Piancone's. I haven't been in years, but that's an option too. In case you haven't discovered it yet - there is a strip mall at the corner of Jumping Brook and Asbury Ave where there is a Taste of Italy, a chicken place and a decent Chinese/japanese restaurant. Across Asbury Ave; where Attilio's is located, a new Mexican restaurant opened. I haven't tried it and my folks won't eat there, but it might be an option for you too. If you come across any other places, please post!

handicapped accessible lunch - Neptune/asbury park area

My parents live in Seabrook off Rt. 66 in Neptune and we would love to find some nice places to take them for lunch (or even dinner). We're not familiar with the area and so far have only found some truly awful chains, (applebee's, chili's) and some bad local restaurants - Attilio's, Beacon Street, Red Hens. Can anyone recommend anything with good food? My dad is not adventuresome, he really only likes Italian and American . They love steak. The restaurants I do know of aren't open for lunch. All suggestions are most appreciated. We have discovered Pete & Eldas - our favorite for pizza!

Nice restaurant for after the opera

Thanks everyone! We've been to Estia and really enjoyed it, but wanted to try something different. I love the idea of Brasserie Perrier as a byob, we were there several years ago, and loved the food, so the idea that it is more affordable is great. For the last Opera we went to Salento, for those of you who haven't been - its delicious. I don't know anything about Bliss, I'll have to check it out on a different night. We also enjoy La Vigna if you can go when it is slow, the food is wonderful, but the tables are much too tight. and Ernesto's Cafe is always consistently good and the owner is very warm and friendly. We moved out of the city, so don't get in as often anymore, so was wondering about some of the new places. Thanks again!

Dinner recommend in Warminster/Warrington

Magnolia Cafe is on Horsham Road. It's very good. Not upscale, but the food is good and it is right on Rt. 611 in Warrington is Cafe Allessio. Yalda Grille is also on Rt. 611 and Horsham Road. Again, not upscale, but they have fixed it up more since they opened and the food is Afghan, so it wins points for being different (and delicious) All of these are byobs. So, if you don't want to drive up to Doylestown, these are some alternatives. There is also a new Italian restaurant on Horsham Road that looks lovely, I haven't been yet. It is owned by the people who owned Cafe Mediterreano which closed recently. I found the food good at Cafe Med - but the prices a little high (esp. for the wine) and the atmosphere to be stuffy. Don't know what the new place is like.

Nice restaurant for after the opera

Six of us are going to the Opera on a Sunday matinee. So we'll be having an early-bird special for dinner - around 5:30/6:00ish. Can anyone recommend a nice restaurant that's walking distance of the Academy? Good food, nice atmosphere. Price isn't really an issue, as long as its not the real pricey place like Le Bec Fin or Striped Bass. I would say no more than 5 or 6 blocks. Thanks!

korean barbecue in Philly?

I've been to Kim's Korean Barbeque several times now, and the food is delicious. I'm not an aficionado of the cuisine, but my husband has been to Korea several times and he finds Kim's quite authentic. They now have beer on the menu, but you can also byob. Be careful not too order too much food, the 4 of us ordered two appetizers and two bbque dinners and it was alot of food. The pancake and dumpling appetizers were delicious, but huge. The bbque dinner comes with kimchee and assorted other dishes on the side. The staff was very sweet, but did not speak much english. I think the neighborhood is fine, I would feel safe going there with just other women, so if there are men in your group, I wouldn't worry at all.

BYOB in Montco

For Afghan - try Yalda Grill. Delicious food, wonderful family. On Horsham Road and 611
