McGonigle's Market for brisket BBQ sanwich, yay or nay??? [KC]

BBQ not far from TJ's is The Stack http://thestackbbq.net/ - you could grab a great, quick sandwich there. Costco on Linwood is 5 miles from Woodyard BBQ if that's what you're referring to. I LOVE Woodyard. You could check Sheridan's Unforked in OP for a burger.

Girls weekend in Kansas City. HELP

La Bodega for tapas also - fun, louder. Chuys (mexican) is kitchy - on the Plaza. Food is ok but the place is really fun. There's a piano bar in the Power & Light district - Howl at the Moon.

Things that Kansas City does better than NYC?!?

check out Bier Station while you're here - it's a a great craft beer spot with tons of bottles/can and an ever changing tap list updated here: http://www.drafster.com/bars/bier_station/

their food menu is small but strong - sausages/brats made locally from Affare as well bread/pretzels made locally by Farm to Market. They have a nice charcuterie selection and they also serve wine.

Chow-ish food recs KC, MO

any of these places you will taste the smoke. and, yes, burnt ends is a KC thing for sure. i can totally throw a wrench into things and suggest Woodyard BBQ in Merriam, KS - http://woodyardbbq.com/ - i kinda love that place. great outdoor seating under trees, just a lot of character. the "experience" at LC's is tough for me too - bars on the windows and no ambience. burnt ends? to die for.

Any good sushi recommendations in KC area?

Kokoro Maki House in Waldo - also not open on Sunday. And Domo in Brookside. Give those a shot. We like Jun's too.

nope, they're not. coincidence? OK Joe's is in a gas station - funky place. Jack Stack is more of a fine dining experience. I like both but for a nicer dinner would steer more towards Jack Stack. you will enjoy lidia's - chef swinney is a friend of mine. if you can do lunch bbq, i really like danny edwards.

concur with all - bb's is awesome for beer, blues and bbq. the district pour house just opened but is getting good buzz - in waldo on wornall & almost 72nd. good cocktails, good food. http://www.pitch.com/FastPitch/archives/2013/09/25/district-pour-house-kitchen-is-ready-for-some-regulars

another neat place - bier station also in waldo. gregory and rockhill - http://www.bierstation.com/ - highly recommend.

lidia's is always a solid pick.

Cheap eats and donuts in KC

Grinders would be convenient - Bread for Life is a great spot, too. Grinders is more of a bar scene - no alcohol at Bread for Life. Donuts - Lamar's on Main is close to where you're staying but for a total throwback experience I recommend John's Space Age Donuts at 8124 Floyd in Overland Park. New Peking Chinese is right around the corner from the Q - great chinese. Another thought for breakfast is Beignet's - http://beignetkc.com/Home_Page.html.

Cheap eats and donuts in KC

Where will you be staying? Grinders is kind of a cool place - in the midtown area. There's an east side which has great pizza, cheesesteaks and lots of character - the west side is a little bit nicer but I believe you can order food off of either menu. Donuts will also depend on the area of town you're staying in. Let me know. www.grinderspizza.com

Best Chinese in KC area

you should try Red Snapper - the owners of that used to own Peking in Westport. i'd imagine if you asked for heads off shrimp, etc they'd be happy to do it. Red Snapper is 84th and Ward Parkway in a small shopping center area. it's our favorite having lived in NYC and other metro areas.

i forgot to mention one of my all time faves and what i consider a true gem - Cafe Sebastienne - located inside of the kemper musuem...Chef Jennifer Maloney is amazing.

Dinner in Kansas City, MO

Staying at the Rapheal, I would point you in the direction of Bluestem - arguably one of the best restaurants in KC. The Rieger, Tannin or Le Fou Frog are also great choices. I, personally, am not a fan of Aixois. Julian....I want to love but I'm just not there yet.

Oklahoma Joe's french fries ... are there better fries in/around Kansas City?

driftwood bbq truck fries may rival OK Joes.

B-R-G-R or Blanc? [Kansas City]

i also like both. i guess we tend to go to BRGR more b/c we're a family of 5 and it may be a tad cheaper. but i've alway enjoyed meals at both. i think burger to burger...blanc may have a small edge. so if you're going for the actual burger....blanc. inside out burger is amazing.

Kansas City - enroute from downtown to the airport

Sunday...that's tough. Off the top of my head and what will be open:

- Cosentino's downtown market has great prepared foods, sandwiches, etc. Tons to choose from. Look it up http://www.cosentinos.com/downtown/

Otherwise, Carollo's Deli in Rivermarket - great italian sandwiches.

Strouds for people who don't eat chicken? (KC)

my husband has had the pan fried catfish and was happy with it. similar to you, it was a group, so we weren't going there on our own accord. i can't say i love the chicken anyhow.

Kansas City - new or new-ish place for Black Friday?

Remedy is a bit slim for vegetarians - it's a funky menu. Great food but my husband has a tough time there. Louie's Wine Dive is also in Waldo, brand new, and getting great buzz. Much larger menu to choose from. That would be my suggestion.

Johhny's in the Power & Light District. That would be convenient if you're staying downtown.

URGENT!! Vegetarian Friendly, Quiet, Dinner KC

Cafe Europa is a good call. Not a fan of Aixois but it would serve the need. Starkers on the Plaza. Jaspers at 103rd. Julian in Brookside. Again, not a huge fan, but Avenues in Brookside could work.

Weekend in KC

Do NOT miss Fervere - go early, they sell out fast on the weekend. And the difference between Murray's and Glace - Murray's is really good homemade ice cream, Glace is higher end gelato - crazy, rich flavors. Depends on what you want.

Weekend in KC

I would 2nd swapping out Gates. Bryants or Woodyard (merriam, ks) http://woodyardbbq.com/ . Woodyard is a neat place to check out that your GF might enjoy, you can sit outside, etc. Bryants is just Bryants, you just have to do it. I've not been impressed iwth Brobecks, but maybe that's just me. Must try ice cream - Murray's in Westport and Glace south of the Plaza - MUSTS!
