Road trip eats in Kansas City
i think bryant's is a great call. i've always enjoyed it. OK Joe's could be on your way from Denver, definitely not too far out of your way. food right around the ballpark is limited though LC's isn't far but not a great atmosphere, it's more about solid BBQ. don't know if they have beer, thinking they don't.
Sunday lunch near KCI
tough area for food, especially somewhere "gifted with vegetables". swagat indian? ixtapa mexican? tasty thai? malay cafe? those four come to mind and non-chain restaurants. thai or malaysian might be your best bets in terms of vegetables.
KC - Trader Joe's, favorite products? [moved from Great Plains]
Now that Trader Joe's has been open a few months, what are you favoriate products?
My go-to's so far are any of the hummus varieties, shredded mozz cheese, their shredded cheese blend, pizza dough, baby carrots, organic romaine, vegetable broth, marinara in a can (1.79!!!), dried pastas (.99!!!), organic milk, organic soy milk, paneer tikka masala in the freezer, garlic naan (freezer), the frozen fish we have tried have been sooo good (sole and salmon). oh, the mini peanut butter cups are dangerous as are the dark chocolate covered shortbread cookies.
How about you?
Thanksgiving out in KC or JoCo
we ate a the oak room in the intercontinental several years ago - it was fantastic. great view of the fireworks and festivities going on in the plaza.
Kansas City "musts"
Lunch at Cafe Sebastienne in the Kemper. You just can't go wrong! I'll have more but there's one to get you started.
STEAK HOUSES IN KANSAS CITY AREA
Jess & Jim's, Golden Ox? Plaza III still seems pretty old school to me - been around for 45 years. Pricier than the first two.

classic Missouri comfort dish
agreed - a friend is compiling a list of comfort recipes by state. i guess i'll go more locally here or st. louis. the fried chicken, green beans, etc is basically "american" comfort food not really specific to this area. i guess st louis style pizza is a good one - though i don't like it. also, pork tenderloin sandwiches seem to be fairly regional - having lived in the northeast, southeast and southwest, i can't recall seeing too many of those. thoughts?
classic Missouri comfort dish
what would you say is the quintessential missouri comfort food/dish?

Help for Solo Dining in Kansas City
i need to think about this some - if you can do w/out lidia's i might suggest another option for you.... room 39, bluestem come to mind at first though i'd let others weigh in on dining at either place alone. i'll think some more and get back with you.

Nice Brunch in KC
I've heard good things about The Well's brunch as well as Avenue's Bistro. 75th Street Brewery recently started a brunch, also. Those are all in Waldo/Brookside. Grand Street's brunch is excellent!

KC - Best Italian Sausage?
price chopper/cosentino's is surprisingly good. i'll buy it instead of scimeca's sometimes when it's looks fresher but also b/c it's sold bulk w/out that casing - scimeca's is probably sold that way too just not easy to find when you need.
KC - Best Italian Sausage?
Whose sausage do you like best? Scimeca's (sp?), McGonigles, Cosentinos, or others?
KC - Station ?? Pizza on Main
FWIW, we ordered pizza from Station 32 Pizza last week. It's adjacent to Planet Sub and actually part of the same operation. Called it in and it was ready in 10 mins, impressive. The pizza was pretty darned good - the crust was somewhat unusual or it was the cornmeal on the bottom but overall worthy of mentioning. Give them a shot and see what you think. They're not online yet just call Planet Sub.
Goin' to Kansas City
the max bus will take you right there! i hear you on the wine - if by any chance you're here on a Tues/Weds La Cucina di Mamma in Brookside has great authentic pizzas, pastas and half price bottles of wine.
Goin' to Kansas City
La Bodega is still good. Room 39 is rumored to be excellent. I believe Pizza Bella is just beer and wine. Julia(n) in Brookside is new but the chef is well known and she's getting some good reviews. There was a good write up in last week's Star, also.
Best Steak near KC Airport
Hereford House is in Zona Rosa just a few miles south of the airport. I've never been but it's a local place - maybe someone else will chime in.
KC - Station ?? Pizza on Main
Anyone know anything about the pizza side of Planet Sub on Main & 48th? It's Station something Pizza... in the old/new firestation.
BYOB in Kansas City
half price bottles at La Cucina di Mamma Tues/Weds (brookside) and their bottles are pretty reasonable already - $12 or so half price.
Four Days in Kansas City for all your can eat!
i think i just read niecie's moved to Troost - 64th & Troost.
Kansas City Missouri, Costco
i will check next time i'm there. french onion soup seems to ring a bell, though. keep you posted.
Mezzaluna - Kansas City (Waldo-ish)
we ate there a couple of weeks ago and will give it another shot. they're working out the kinks and the "grand" opening isn't until sometime later this month. the focaccia was incredible. the pizza was great though different, doughier than typical pizza margherita (did i butcher that spelling?). i had a chicken special that was OK but it wasn't what i intended on ordering the server talked my into it - should have stuck to my guns. i think i was hung up mostly on the $14 pizza that was rather small. at any rate, we will try again.
