Great Windsor Bread?

I've heard good things about it but never remember when I'm in the area. It might be time for special trip. Thanks for the suggestion.

Great Windsor Bread?

So many of the Windsor bakeries I've tried produce bread that tends toward bland and poufy. I can think of Sunrise, Union, European Market, Remark and Black's and somehow the different varieties of bread end up tasting the same. I do like the Italia Bakery and the Middle Eastern market on Wyandotte that makes it's own pita, but would like to find some French- or German-style breads or breakfast rolls, and maybe even some decent croissants. I've been frequenting Sobey's since they upgraded their breads but there must be a local, small-scale option?

ISO Flour Torillas

Hi, what's the name of the store? I live in Windsor and find Dempster's tortillas pretty bland.

Jicima

Joseph's Market on Tecumseh Rd East has jicama for sure; their westside store probably has it as well. Plus you can load up on cheap limes to go with it.

I have seen jicama in the St Clair Beach Zehr's but I don't know if they routinely carry it.

Centro Lindo on Tecumseh near Central is I think the only Mexican grocery in the area and they carry little to no produce.

Original Canadian Foods? Eh!

Over 4 years on from the original post and not one mention of Hawkins Cheezies? Made in Belleville, Ontario but readily available out West. We now live in Windsor, Ontario and can buy them at Shopper's but they aren't the same as the super-fresh ones from Geen's Pharmacy in Belleville. They are perfection when ingested alongside a rye and ginger (much more Canadian than a Bloody Caesar, by the way.) Corby's rye from north of Belleville was the ultimate...I think they used to make Royal Reserve with the "proudly Canadian" sticker on the bottle that HAD to go on the pick-up truck bumper. I think Royal Reserve is still around but it doesn't seem to kick like it used to.
