Gingerbread Waffles with Vanilla Bean–Orange Butter

Even with cutting the butter to 3/4 c. (Or 1.5 stick) these were still a bit greasy. The flavour was good, but I've had better gingerbread waffles than these. I don't think I'd make this recipe again.

What is your opinion on Pampered Chef products?

That is the one thing out of the few I purchased that has become almost indispensable! That bowl and lid is perfect for everything.

Rudest grocery checker remark

I had a cashier tell me that the free-run eggs I was buying were "a rip-off". He then proceeded to lecture me about how the chickens don't even get to run around and that the free-run label was a marketing ploy. I just wanted to get these eggs for pasta making, as the yolks are a beautiful orangey-yellow and I've found they make beautiful fresh pasta. I replied "I like these ones", but he kept talking! I don't need a morality lecture from someone who probably read something on the internets and has an axe to grind! Take my money!

Sour Cream Coffee Cake

So delicious! I'm a sucker for baked goods with sour cream. I made the crumble using brown sugar instead of white and I would highly recommend anyone else try that too.

Vietnamese Coffee Ice Pops

These are so delicious! I used coconut milk instead of heavy cream.

Classic Vanilla Marshmallows

I have made these more than once and they are so easy and impressive! It takes a bit of planning to get everything in place (read the recipe a few times to make sure you have everything ready to go and you really understand the order of events). This recipe is a great jumping off point to add different flavors and add ins! Give it a try!

Moving to Calgary

Thai Tai for subs on 17th Avenue, Basil for Vietnamese in the NE and Karma for Indian in the SE, Holy Smoke for BBQ.

Lots of favorite places on 17th Ave- Farm, The Coup, Una.

These are all places I love to visit when I come home to Calgary!

Where is everyone?

I've been lurking way more than I have ever posted. I was looking for some discussion about food in Northern Alberta (Grande Prairie), but I was met with radio silence. I still love reading posts though!

Chocolate Fountains--Are They Passe on A dessert buffet?

I'm not one to get squicked out by germ-y things, but chocolate fountains are revolting. Anytime I see them, I avoid them. Jay F has it right- they're germ transfer systems.

"Who-Knows-Why?" dislikes

I am the exact same way! People keep trying to get me to try them "Oh but I make the best omelet!" and more often than not "You don't even like scrambled eggs?!", as if for some reason scrambling the eggs would make a difference. Glad to see I'm not alone in my egg hate.

"Who-Knows-Why?" dislikes

Eggs in any cooked form are a no-go for me. I just can't deal with the texture and the smell of a plain egg cooking is enough to make me gag.
The one I have to explain the most is strawberries. Every and all strawberries have a rotting/fermenting smell to me. I have tried eating strawberries fresh from gardens before and it's the same thing to me. More strawberries for the rest of you, I guess!

Candy Cane Cookies

These just didn't do it for me. They were so labor intensive and the dough was just on the crumbly/breakable-when-rolled side, so that may have added to my frustration. I wouldn't make again.
Also, if I was to make them again for some strange reason, I'd cut the salt.

Grande Prairie, AB- Is there great food here?

A year ago, I loved from Calgary to Grande Prairie and I haven't found many great food spots here that aren't a chain restaurant or fast food.
There are 2 places that stand out as great here though: El Norteno for tacos at the Farmer's Market and Hong Fah for Thai.
Can anyone lead me towards some hidden awesomeness that I have missed here, or should I just suppress my foodie urge for trips to Calgary or Edmonton?
