Best things you ate this month: Feb 2014

Grits at Big Crow. It was freezing inside, but they were worth it! Garlic bread and ribs were very good too.

Wink™ Lives! But R.I.P. Ruby Grapefruit.

There are 6 packs of Pompelmo at my local Metro (Keele and Lawrence) for $4.99! Deal! Waiting for it to cool before I crack one open and taste it.

President's Choice Black Label

$9.99 for 400g.

President's Choice Black Label

Was in the Bloor Street Market last night and saw many of the products. Sadly forgot to look for the Bacon Marmalade. Picked up Marcona almonds, avocado oil, truffle aioli and raspberry and cream biscuits. I've tried the almonds and they and quite tasty… fresh and lightly salted.

shocked: which location were you in?

Where to find pea shoots in Toronto?

Whole Foods in Yorkville has them and so does McEwan Foods. Good places to shop if you have lots of money to spend.

Dolce Gusto Coffee Capsules - where to buy in T.O.?

Saw some this afternoon in the Metro at Lawrence and Keele.

Quick Vote: JKWB, Cava, Rain, Monsoon

Rain.

Tastespotting.com

Is gone. A sad day for me.

To help get past this gap and to dal with my sorrow, is there a similar site to check?

Canoe Dinner Recs

Last time there, I had the roast suckling pig and my companion had the beef tenderloin. We skipped starters so we could share the Maria's tasting dessert. We agreed that the food (and the view) were fantastic.

Corner House in Stouffville? Or...

I've been to the Corner House many times and it's always been very nice. Two cozy rooms in the front and a larger room in the back for bigger groups. Steak was always good, lamb too. Great wine selections and pleasant service. Only caveat: I haven't been in a little over a year, as I haven't been to Stouffville for a while. I'd go back, though, based on all my previous positive experiences.

Best butcher in York Region?

You may want to try Herrington's in Port Perry. Great meat (and meat pies) and great service.

If you go, look for the signage in the restaurant and be sure to do e x a c t l y what it tells you to. Otherwise, you will meet a extremely cranky owner. We split after he spewed and found the Mixx Bistro. A big win for us.

I'll second that recommendation! Had a great dinner there in February and can't wait to go back.

Any interesting spiced nuts recipes?

Union Square Bar Nuts are the answer. The recipe is easily found online.

ps. They are better warm.

Barefoot Contessa Lemon Yogurt Cake

This cake is divine. Tastes great and is quite pretty to see with all the glaze and icing on top. I served it a few weeks ago after lunch and it was universally loved.

ISO: Mini Ciabatta Buns

Dominion carries Ciabatta Rolls made by Irresistibles which are quite nice. I don't remember how many were in the bag (9 maybe) and they were $2.99.

Good steak around north Toronto/GTA?

Peter's Fine Dining on Hwy. 7 in Markham has great steaks.

Winterlicious at Mistura

Had dinner tonight at this lovely restaurant. It was the first, but not the last visit for any of the people in my party. Service was attentive but not aggressive, food was fantastic. Risotto with Radicchio, Toasted Walnut and Vincotto, Barolo Braised Beef Brisket with Soft Polenta and Pine Nut and Honey Tart with Vanilla Creme Anglaise. My dining companions were similarly impressed.

I don't know what it's like when Winterlicious is not on, but based on tonight, it must be off the hook.

Restaurants in Buffalo

The Friar's Table is very good. The shrimps in the cocktail are massive, the salads just the right size and the steak/prime rib/rack of lamb are just as ordered every time. They've a great range of vodkas for martinis. Service is fantastic--friendly without being in your face. Reservations are necessary.

Looking for quaint, rustic Italian

I agree with this endorsement. Tutti Matti has been very good every time I've gone... at least 10 times without a complaint.
