Wilkinson Ginger Ale in the United States?

I am no help but wanted to chime in. I'm in Tokyo right now thoroughly enjoying my first with "Extra Ginger". Strong, light, tasty! I have never seen a Ginger Ale so dark. Would make a great Dark and Stormy. I am now on a quest.

Roasted Asparagus with Poached Eggs and Miso Butter

In the book he has a recipe (?) for slow cooked poached eggs that you keep in the shell. Takes about 40 minutes and some constant temperature monitoring.

Macadamia Nut Liquor

Hmm, over two years later eh? Well, I'm guessing your bottle is long gone but if not add about 1/2 oz. to a Manhattan. Rounds it out nicely. Also works well with a good rum and pineapple juice. Totally agree with mrspvr, pour into your coffee (or hot chocolate).

unable to access recipes

After about 40 or so "that page isn't available" message I'm getting a little ticked off. I know I have "free" access but come on. Would paying for no ads make a difference? I'd do that in a hot minute.

your favourite slow cooker recipes, please

For a start, go do a search over at in their recipes section for 'slow cooker'. I have a cookbook with international dishes for the slow cooker that's a few years old, but brilliant. And no, I have no affiliation with them.

San Diego's Filippi's Pizza Grotto

I've had pizza from Amici's and Pizza Antica in Santana Row. Both are good but different. For me Filippi''s on India Street is comfort food and so far, have not come close to finding something like it in the South Bay. I understand Berkeley and the East Bay has some really good pizza but haven't made the hour trip north.

San Diego also has Pizzeria Luigi and Bronx which are thinner crust and really good.

Cured Salmon

I leave the skin on. Then, when the cure is done I slice it off and fry it as I would bacon. Doesn't yield a lot but oh, the flavor. From time to time I also love to quickly pan fry a portion of the cured salmon itself (not thinly sliced). Soooooo good!

Black Pepper Martini

I've infused vodka with black peppercorns (took less 48 hours), maybe that and some dry vermouth would work (normally a gin martini guy). Or maybe try infusing some Gin with peppercorns. Think I'll try that next.

Mushroom and Fennel Bread Pudding

I know veggie broth can be substituted but come on, listing this as a vegetarian option then using "1 cup low-sodium chicken broth" is dumb.

That said, this recipe looks good. Looking forward to trying it (with home made veggie broth)

San Diego's Filippi's Pizza Grotto

Started as a deli in the 50's (there's a menu on one of the walls from that era and the most expensive item is $2.25), the restaurant is the red-checkered-table cloth-with-basketed-Chianti-bottles-hanging-from-the-ceiling Americanized Italian restaurant that everyone says it is.

As a former resident of San Diego and now as a resident of the pizza wasteland of San Jose, I have to say I miss Filippi's. Is it a destination restaurant? Nope. And, to be fair, I only order two things. The cheese pizza and the (not on the menu) eggplant parmesan sandwich. Add any toppings to the pizza and its just not the same. Likewise I like the house Chianti with the pizza. Were it presented to me anywhere else I'd probably not be into it. That said, all you have to do is move to a city that has only crappy pizza choices and you really start to appreciate Filippi's

Recommendations please, Saratoga/Los Gatos

I know I'm way late but I have to weigh in. On the positive, I like Paragon and Poor House (New Orelans style food). Poor House gets the seasoning right but why do BBQ shrimp with small shrimp? I also like Seven but haven't been there in a while.

I see a few posts for Naglee Park's The Garage. I've only been twice but I've found the food ok but not anywhere near great. The best things it has going for it is that I can walk to it, they have beer and wine and they do strive to constantly improve. I wish I could say the same for the rest of Silicon Valley which continues to be, in the six plus years I've lived here, the land of diminished expectations.
