Has anyone an opinion on Kohler Vault Smart Divide Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink?

Hi wkearney99 -

Thank you for your input. It was a long decision-making process within the family but we were really biased toward 14 and 16 gauge SS. There are only a few manufacturers that create sinks in these gauges so we were limited. Haven't received the sink yet but will let everyone know if it is a good one once we have used it for awhile... Since we are on septic, we will not be having a garbage disposal - plumbers were shocked that we would even consider it since not on municipal sewer... Who knew?

Thank you exvaxman!

I second nuraman00 request for a link if you have one...

Shawarma vs Gyros ? Anyone have an opinion?

WOW! Thank you everyone for your input. It will be nice to give some side-by-side comparisons and see which ones are the clear winners! Unfortunately, we don't have a ton of variety where I live (WI) but next time I am traveling, I will post and see if there are any 'Great' restaurants in the area that I should try.

Many thanks!!

Shawarma vs Gyros ? Anyone have an opinion?

Hi there -

Just curious, how similar is Schwarma to Gyros? Cultures aside - seems pretty close to us but maybe we are missing the spices used, etc.?

Thank you!

Hi nuraman00 -

I don't have the model number on me as the whole kitchen is in storage waiting for a kitchen to house it in :). I can hardly wait! I can tell you that it is not programmable. Probably exactly what I deserve - you get what you paid for and if I remember correctly, the Hamilton Beach I have didn't break the bank.

I have to admit that I am bad about coming back through and stirring as usually I am not home at the time to do it or I am involved with other things that take my attention away but I will see what I can do! I use a timer all the time just to get me back on track and remain vigilant with kitchen works but I don't set a timer to come back and stir. If I cannot, at least I could let whatever family member that is there to give it a stir...

You pegged it right - the one egg part - we raise chickens and I slip in an extra egg upon occasion. I will stay true to the recipe!

Many Thanks!

I know. Me too! We bought West Bend because we live in WI. It is not non-stick, it is crockery (which they say is non-stick except you have to spray it or at least I have to spray mine...).

I have not looked into doing M-n-C in a rice cooker - I have however looked at picking up the Zoshi since I believe (unless I am thinking of the wrong one) it is not aluminum. How do you like yours? Seems pricey but worth it... ?

Thank you for your reply and advice!

3 quick questions: Breakfast, Reading Terminal Market, Butcher & Singer

Could you post if the Amish Bakery counter is still in operation? I still have delicious memories of their chocolate chip muffins - light as air, not too sweet, and the amount of chips were just perfect!!

I ended up buying the RTM cookbook because there were so many delights that I wanted to be able to make myself along with the Amish cookbook along with the ... I admit to being a cookbook collector but at least it is a working collection - otherwise out they go (to be soon replaced with another!! :)).

Hope you have a wonderful time!

Oh my goodness - the Never-MT-Soap looks SUPER! Thank you so much for the link!! I cannot stand filling from the top (always overflows no matter how careful we are) and I usually unscrew from below which is a yoga position (at least for me)!

You have so much wonderful advice and great experience with various products! Thank you so much for sharing!!

I will certainly post what I ended up doing with the TapMaster - another jewel of advice of yours!!

Muffin Recipes - Advice?

Wow paulj - I feel truly educated on baking powder! Thank you for sharing that link!!

I am going to grab some Argo next time I am in town and I am also going to try Debra's biscuit recipe that she linked to in her article. We love biscuits (probably way more than we should but I hate those store bought salty, greasy ones!) and am always on the look-out for the 'best' recipe.

Many thanks!

Thank you greygarious - will do!! Another link that came up was for a very old posting by Mrs. Smith. The muffin recipes (a contest for the best ...) look great!

I think this is a link (small disclaimer since I am new to this site... :))

Thank you splatgirl - I know what you mean about the soap dispensers - none of the ones that I have bought have ever lasted but I like that the top of the counter is more minimized of clutter. I will certainly review the warranty period because 1) I usually buy with an overall design in mind and 2) they are not inexpensive and you would think they would last longer than they do - I know that many manufacturers have planned obsolescence in their products but honestly where is the craftsmanship of old???

Many thanks for all of your wonderful input!!

Hi splatgirl -

I didn't see the one that allows you to choose water temp. Will look again because that would be handy when your hands are all goopy and you want some hot water pronto!

All the various Tapmaster models look amazing in that you don't have to remodel your kitchen or dig yourself a hole under your cabinets to change out batteries.

The Tapmaster will be an awesome addition to both kitchen and bathroom so thank you so much for bringing that up!!

Has anyone an opinion on Kohler Vault Smart Divide Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink?

Hi sueatmo -

Thank you for your input. We have been listing all of the hand-washables just to be sure that one bowl is the way to go (it will be a departure from the norm but not insurmountable and by the majority vote, the definite way for us to go in our situation) and so far the single bowl is the clear winner. One of the kids just reminded me how nice it will be to easily wash our dehydrator trays - which I forgot all about but every time I have to wash them, I grind my teeth in frustration since they do not fit in my dbl bowl sink.

I don't like to use bleach very often (makes me sick) but we had a light colored porcelain sink and if my Shaklee scrubbing paste didn't remove the stains (gentle on body and environment but tough stuff on stains) then I would find myself making a gallon of hot water and dumping a cup of bleach in it and let is set awhile in the sink (at least an hour or more). If I needed to reach stains that were higher, I just made more of same concentration until the stain was underwater. It worked every time and didn't hurt my sink but you might want to refer to your manufacturers specs. since I don't want your sink damaged...

I would love to hear what brand faucet you have as none of the ones that I have looked at are inexpensive and if there are some that stink, I will willing write them off my list.

Thank you for all the effort!

Is that the Vinum series in Reidel? The restaurant brand that you speak of? I could certainly handle $5/glass - thanks for the info!!

And you bet on the FUN - cannot imagine enjoying anything in life with out some fun involved!

Lucky you on your cellar! So, what is your opinion on synthetic vs. cork vs. screw-on?

Many thanks!

Thank you escondido123!

Seems that the sinks I am looking at have fewer than number of needed holes so I am going to have to choose carefully. I figure if there are minimal controls on the faucet, then there will be less spit-n-polish needed :) Again, nice to save time to do so many other things then grabbing out my toothbrush and scrubbing away!

Thank you for the advice!!

splatgirl - The Tapmaster looks GREAT! I was contemplating a motion sensor for a bathroom faucet replacement but now I am going to go with the Tapmaster. Have you had any experience with any of the models they depict - toe kick, knee nudge, in-floor, european? I am thinking about the in-floor as I think everyone can use it (young or old) whereas the kids might not get the stay-on feature of the toe-kick and european models and leave on by accident... Although it may take a bit of doing as the floor is tile... Would love to hear what you have to say! Many Thanks!

The Cranberry Upside Down Muffins look Christmas-y and interesting to make. All the other recipes look great too, will need to pare them down :)

We usually use Rumford as I can buy it in the huge canister. I will have to look for Argo and compare. We are going to be making the various dry ingredients a few days in advance and labeling what wet we need to speed us up in the process but I will definitely keep the overnight advice in mind! Thank you for the advice!!

I know, the wait goes on for forever! One of the cousins will also have hers and the oven is going to be used too. It is nice to have the muffin making appliance as it truly does create a feeling of festivity and a sense of accomplishment - nice when everyone pitches in and feels good about the help they give.

I see a link to Bittman's muffins further down - Thank you for the help! We will use the basic muffin recipe and see what inspires us for add-ins - will share if any are stunners!

Hi wvvm -

What not just enjoy RTM and grab something there? Last time my family was there, everyone ate way too much but all were happy and the variety was great! Prices were higher than I remember but what prices aren't?

Enjoy your trip!

Seeking opinions about Pumpkin Ice Cream

In the past, we make a crustless pumpkin pie and layer it between the pumpkin ice cream. It is always a crowd pleaser.

Best of luck!

Muffin Recipes - Advice?

Hello -

For Christmas, with a bunch of different family members (kids, adults, grandparents, etc.), my daughter would like to be the Muffin Making Princess for Sunday breakfast add-on.

She is hoping to involve a cousin or two so I am thinking mass quantities but lots of variety.

Are there any tried-n-true muffin recipes out there that would be raving successes (hard to face disappointed family esp. at a holiday gathering), appeal to all age groups, and come out delicious in those muffin making small appliances?

We have been trying a variety of recipes and some come out like the Beverly Hillbilly Ellie-Mae's creations - rock hard & teeth breaking :). We have settled for cake recipes made into muffins (light and fluffy) but all of those are sweet and she would also like to make some savory. Successes w/ non-aluminum baking powder please. That is the only type of baking powder that we have and use...

Your help would be much appreciated!

Thank you escondido123 - I will check the site out.

One thing in particular that we have been impressed with with faucetdirect.com is their willingness to advise on chosen faucet and sink combo splash-up!! Can you imagine anything worse - pick up a sink, pick up a faucet and for the rest of their useful lives, you want to kill someone when they mess up the whole tidy sink surround??? Not that I am such a neat freak but would it be too much to ask for the sink area to stay pleasing for just a bit of time vs. after every use the need to go dry up?

Thank you so much for the link and advice!

Using DW is, I think, a great idea as I have lost a grip on a glass or two ;) but hubby thinks that Reidel deserves a bit more care & appreciation. I am going to look at the other glass makers that you mentioned as I find the whole enjoyment of wine rather intriguing and a challenge. I used to walk away from Cab Sauv until I sipped it from Reidel stemware and thought - WOW, no way! I must be mistaken!! Now the depth of tannins bring out more appreciation and much less aversion!

Thank you for your input!
