GyroBall's Profile

Earth at Hidden Pond

Has anyone tried it yet? I really like KO's restaurants in Boston, but wondering about this one.

24 hours in Manchester NH

Reputation. And yes, Republic is your best bet. It's the best restaurant in Manchester.

Best Octopus in Manhattan?

John Dory is the best I've had in Manhattan. Amazing. Il Buco is #2.

Best Breakfasts in New Hampshire

Lou's in Hanover. Homemade red flannel hash. Amazing.

Please show some love to Sarah's in Wiscasset, and the Sea Basket (also in Wisc.) for the coast's best fried seafood and amazing lobster chowder. Cook's on Bailey Island.

Portland eats - how do these places sound?

Wait, DeMillo's? Seriously?

Gross.

I grew up in Wiscasset....please...no Red's Eats. Entirely overrated.

Burning Tree in Bar Harbor / on MDI is excellent.

Restaurants in Portsmouth NH

Black Trumpet. Black Trumpet. Black Trumpet!

The Mayflower

Thanks. Is the restaurant on par with fine dining in NYC, or just servicable but nice country inn fare? We loved Inn at Little Washington, and while I don't expect the food to be at that level, is it worth the freight?

The Mayflower

Hi. My wife and I are going in January. Should we eat on site or go out? If there are no proximate options, how is the food at the Mayflower?

Gift

I'm writing to request your help. A friend of mine picked up dinner while my wife and I were in Paris last week. I would like to reciprocate my getting him a gift certificate. i tried emailing Spring for one of their wine classes but have yet to hear back. Do restaurants in Paris do gift certificates? If not, other food-reated ideas?

Pick two! -- Pierre Gagnaire, Taillevent, Le Cinq, L'Arpege, others?

This may be unfair, but here goes...

My wife and I were in Paris last week. We did the tasting menu at Taillevent. It was a memorable experience and the service was as pitch perfect as everyone says.

The food was great. The wine list fantastic.

However, after eating at Spring earlier in the week, I can't shake the feeling that at Taillevent they are simply *preparing* tested favorites, whereas at Spring and places like Les Bistronomes (ate lunch there) they are cooking, inventing, and responding to the market and season.

So it depends on what you want. We'll never forget our night at Taillevent, but we didn't leave blown away by the food or surprised by the carte. I don't at all regret the money we spent there (and for us it was a significant splurge), but $300 at Spring (for example) was a better return than $800 at Taillevent.

Lunch Reservations?

My wife and I are visiting Paris in late September. We have one reservation for dinner (Taillevent), but would like to keep our itinterary a bit loose so that we an enjoy the city as it comes to us.

I've created a map of the restaurants that have caught our eye in our research...Frenchie, Spring, Agape, Ze, Pottoka, L'Antre Amis, Sola, Kei...placed like that. The idea is to pop into one when we're in the neighborhood and it's time to eat, particuarly at the lunch hour.

My question is: will we be able to walk in and have *lunch* at places like this without reservations?

Thanks.

Looking for best food in Portsmouth, NH for "special occasion" dinner

Definitely Black Trumpet. Romantic and the food is great.

Nice Early Birthday Dinner Before Sox Game

Neptune Oyster is amazing, and captures well New England eating (Boston's version of Cochon?). That said, it's not close to Fenway. If you're looking for something close, Eastern Standard is definitely your choice. Elephant Walk is good, but not not appropriate, I think, for what you're trying to find.

May Bachelor Party

This is probably a question you don't get often...

I am planning my brother's bachelor party in Montreal, and one night we would like to have a large, banquet-style dinner at a place with good food at a decent price (figure about $80-100 per person). As far as food style, it would probably be good to keep it simple and non-ethnic due to the number of people we expect - about 20.

Steak places seem to work well for this type of thing, as well as family-style Italian. But, if we're going to be in Montreal we might as well find a favorite local place. I leave it up to you Hounds!

Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

Four Couples Dinner Help

Thanks for all the ideas. What do you all think about Washington Square Tavern?

Four Couples Dinner Help

My wife and I are planning to go out to dinner with three other couples in mid January. We'll be coming from West Roxbury with one of the couples, one couple is coming from Dorchester, and the last from Needham. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced place that would be the most convenient for everyone? Italian would be good, as would American. No dietary restrictions. Entrees between 18 and 28 preferrable.

Georgetown Advice

Hook is not such a good idea. Search other, more permissive boards to learn about their non-food-related issues. Let's just say 15 ladies screaming and jumping up on the table may not make the best bachelorette party (though it would be memorable!)

You may have to leave G-Town to find the right place...

Top 3 fine dining restaurants for special anniversary dinner

Komi is the place you want to go. Best meal we've had - ever. And that included IALW and Cyrus.

Old Town

The Majestic might be a good option. Thrasher cocktails and really good food. The atmosphere is fun, too.

Rehearsal Dinner in Portland Maine

My brother is getting married in Portland, Maine this coming summer. Can anyone recommend good restaurants with private rooms? I know Fore Street has one, but others? Your help us greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ISO restaurant near Marriott in Roslyn

The walk isn't that bad, though it's a bit uphill.

Pizza Delivery in Arlington?

Z pizza - I'm sorry to say - is horrible. My wife and I had high hopes but...um....no.

Bricks used to be awesome, but they went to frozen crust and now it stinks. I haven't ordered them in two years.

Vocelli is probably frozen crust too< but it's the best of the deliveries.

Pizza Delivery in Arlington?

Vocelli's is the best delivery, IMO.

I still miss NYC pie.

Downtown Houston Help

Back in Houston, but because of the hurricane will be staying near the Galleria (last minute trip, all hotels downtown booked). If it's not too late, recs for dinner tomorrow evening? Is Americas any good anymore?

Visiting DC this weekend...what are some "must-try" restaurants/food stands/bars?

Ben's Chili Bowl.

What is your favorite DC foodie restaurant?

KOMI. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Just go. Now.

My wife and I ate at The Inn at Little Washington a few weeks ago (I still owe the board a review), and while the experience was magical, and with all due respect earned and deserved ten thousand times over to IALW, the food at Komi is sublime.

Cheap & Cheerful in N. Arlington

Ray's Hellburger or Guajillo are fun, but not in a fun location. You want to go to eatbar or Liberty Tavern.
