Savannah - Which of these are best?

Mrs. Wilkes is only on weekdays between 11-2 and if you are unable to wait long, that rules it out --last time (Apr 27 Friday) we arrived at 10:40 AM and were seated at 12:15.

Best in Florida?

Bern's Steak House in Tampa .Reservations online or by phone. Ate there for the first time last night. Read all the reviews of this place before you go, as well as the wealth of info on their web site. Got a tour of the kitchen and wine cellar (as all first timers are invited to do)Make sure you visit the dessert room upstairs. A memorable experience and worth every penny IMHO.

Downtown Tampa--need several recs

Will be at a clinical meeting in downtown Tampa (at the Marriott) next week and need a couple recommendations for downtown Tampa.
First is a good breakfast place that is either within 3 blocks of the Marriott or within several blocks of a trolley stop.
Second would be a Chowhound kinda place with good Cuban food and not overpriced. Usual disclaimers apply--not concerned about slow or mediocre service if the food warrants it. And no place that has problems with the health department. I already know about the Columbia and intend to go there, but that's more Spanish than Cuban, right?
Thanx for any advice and recs.

Thin crust pizza in Tampa (east)

Gee, no takers. Well, how 'bout this, then--good thin crust pizza ANYWHERE in Tampa (I have a car) Or if there isn't any, regular crust (like wood-fired) might be OK. I know people down there eat pizza, so what say you, 'Hounds??

is there german food in florida???

Thanx !!

is there german food in florida???

how about in or near Tampa, or east of it?? Sent this before I could read ALL the threads, but Taste of Berlin will be close. Anything else close by, without driving to St. Pete or Sanford?

Thin crust pizza in Tampa (east)

Will be staying in the Riverview area several nights soon and would like to find a place that serves great thin-crust pizza somewhere within a reasonable driving distance (7-10 miles max) I know pizza is very subjective, but my basic criteria are taste, not greasy, no health department problems. Not worried about slow service or open till 1AM, etc. Thanx for any and all reccs.

Good Food in or around Tifton , Georgia

Too late now, probably, but next time try the Coconut Asian bistro--fantastic Asian food. Wife and I were there last october and loved it. Big menu.

Questions about Lexington #1 BBQ

Just go there, Miss Piggy , get carry-out if you have to--and be your own judge--I doubt that you'll be disappointed. Lexington ,NC has one BBQ place for every 1,000 people--per capita it is thus the BBQ capital of the world--that didn't happen by accident. And Wayne Monk knows how to do it right. Can't please everybody, but I think you'll be glad you went. Let us know your reaction when you get back.

Abbreviated NC BBQ Tour

I did a similar thing back in Sept '04--started a BBQ tour in Kansas City, then drove straight thru to NC and had BBQ a total of 14 times in 11 days--roughly a clockwise tour starting up in Banner Elk, then Greensboro, Lexington, Ayden, Wilson,Goldsboro etc. Posted a lengthy trip report here and I think it's still archivable. (Try a Yahoo search of "Chowhound"+"Banner Elk"+"Wilson"+"Stamey's"+"KyMikey" and you will pull it up.) I would definitely recommend Stamey's, The Skylight Inn, Wilbur's, Lexington BBQ (maybe more than one in that golden BBQ town!), Allen and Son, maybe B's in Greenville if you get there when they open. Skylight Inn is pure history (before the Civil War) and is BBQ in its purest form--2 guys hacking away with cleavers at a mound of meat, minimal menu served on paper, etc. If you could only go to one, this would be the one Just realized you only have 36 hours--If you hit The Skylight Inn and B's close together (the latter as early in the day as you can-maybe get carry out), then maybe Allen & Son, and hit Lexington BBQ when you get there, that's a pretty good sampling of the best.

Driving From Lynchburg, TN to Asheville, NC -- anything good to eat?

Before you leave Lynchburg, you will, of course, be stopping at Miss Bobo's, right?? (My favorite place in the universe) Then you can be in Chowhound afterglow for the whole trip :-)

Tifton, GA -- dinner and breakfast

For those in the future looking for a dinner place right off the freeway between Atlanta and the FLA border, look no further and scope out the Coconut Asian Bistro in Tifton. They even have a big billboard on I-75 long before the exit so you don't miss it. Looks kinda dinky on the outside, but don't let that fool ya. but we ordered quite a few dishes and all were great. My main entree was ordered a 4 out of 6 heat level and wasn't that hot, so if you really like it fiery, emphasize that.

Tifton, GA -- dinner and breakfast

Looking for non-chain places for dinner and breakfast in the Tifton area--BBQ is OK for dinner, but any unique Chowy place would be fine. Thanx for any info and reccs.

Sushi in Asheville

Have just discovered the joy of sushi recently (at age 63) and the last major post I could find in the Asheville area was pretty dated ('07) I am just a rank beginner, tho, and wouldn't know the difference between good sushi and great sushi, but if I wanted to go to some place near or at the top when I visit Asheville soon, where would that be? For that matter, what type of things should I order to get a good sampling? I like hot and spicy, so I usually have the wasabi and ginger rather liberally with it. Thanx for all info and reccs.

McDonough, GA--Dinner and breakfast

C'mon, y'all--there surely is life south of Hotlanta, isn't there????? Where do the locals go for breakfast and dinner down there ?

McDonough, GA--Dinner and breakfast

Will be staying in McDonough on a Friday (after lunch in Atlanta) and would like to have a recc or two for dinner and breakfast. Thinking of maybe Shane's Rib Shack for dinner and possibly Gritz Family Restaurant for breakfast. Always prefer mom-and-pop local Chowy places rather than big chains. Might entertain a breakfast place near I-75 within 40 miles or so south of McDonough if necessary. Thanx for any reccs and info.

Best of downtown Asheville

Actually, I agree. Forty beers on tap would get me in there even without anything else.

Best of downtown Asheville

Didn't hear anyone mention Suwana's Thai Orchid on Broadway. I only get to Asheville 2 or 3 times a year, but it is a must stop. Have never had a bad meal there and they treat me like a king every time--one waitress there has a phenomenal memory--second time there she remembered what beer and what dessert I had about 6 months previous. Wow. Last Saturday I brought home some leftovers and they were almost as heavenly the second time around.
Agree with leah that with all the great places down there, why would you settle for a pizza?

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport - where breakfast and dinner?

A little bit of deja vu for me on this thread. The only time I was in Phoenix for a week (3 years ago) we drove our rental car directly from the airport to Carolina's on East Mojave for lunch (early Saturday afternoon) back when it was their only location and before we drove back to the airport the following Saturday AM we had our getaway breakfast at Over Easy when they had their only location in that converted Taco Bell. I had the best scrambled eggs there that I have ever had, so it was a memorable trip partly because of selecting those 2 unique places for the first and last meals. And both places now have multiple locations because of their success. So having a rental car really helps Chowhounding, and you need to take advantage of it.

Arizona Grand Resort restaurants

Will be visiting and staying here 4 nights next week and would like to know what the dining options are on-site. Despite the locale, i am not well-heeled, so we are not looking for 50 dollar steaks or similar stuff--casual dining is fine. We will have a car so we are not limited to just the resort. Thanx for any info. BTW, the Grand Resort used to be called Hilton Pointe at South Mountain and was re-named recently.

Good lunch near Woodford Reserve?

I'll second Melissa's. We were there about 3 weeks ago before heading over to Woodford--it was great for lunch.

Pink Pony substitute (Scottsdale)

Three years ago when we were in the Scottsdale area, we had our last dinner at the Pink Pony. This was our most expensive meal of the trip, but it wasn't expensive by most peoples' standards, just unique and memorable. Since the Pink Pony is no longer around, we would like to eat someplace similar this time and hopefully, not much more pricey. Can anyone suggest a place in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area for this (we will have a car.) Thanx.

Chicken & Dumplings in NKy/Cincy area

A friend of mine wants to know of any NON-chain restaurant in the Greater Cincinnati/NKy area that serves good chicken and dumplings. The Colonial Cottage comes to mind, but didn't think they had an online menu. What say ye, Hounds--any ideas?

Breakfast near Versailles, KY

Actually, we were there last weekend. Running behind, we stopped in Versailles for lunch and ate at Melissa's Cottage Cafe on South Main--it was great--breakfast probably would have been just as good--we wound up getting lost--coming in McCracken Pike from Frankfort, we passed Addie's first, then got to Woodford Reserve about a mile later (no signs at all until we got there the back way). WR is a great place to visit and I highly recommend it.

Breakfast near Versailles, KY

Familiar with the Keeneland cafeteria, and I agree. But we didn't want to go that far out of our way for breakfast. I have become aware of 4 places in or near Versailles -- Melissa's Cottage Cafe, Callie's Homestyle Restaurant, Silver Spoon and Addie's Creekside Cafe (latter not far from the distillery) What say ye, hounds? Which of those is my best bet for breakfast?

Breakfast near Versailles, KY

Will be touring the Woodford Reserve distillery Friday (driving there from the southeast) and would like to know of any good places for breakfast near Versailles or slightly south or west of there. Non-chain places preferred. Thanx for any reccs.

Long Weekend in Scottsdale for First Timers

I had the best scrambled eggs in my life at Over Easy back about 3 years ago before it relocated. Can't speak for anyone else, but it will be a must visit for me this spring when I'm in Phoenix again.

Lebanon, KY (SE of Bardstown)

I know it's a small town, but where should I go to eat there (one lunch and 2 dinners on the weekend) --Big Jim's, Cedarwood, Oak Barrel, and 3 different Mexican places (which one is best?) and a few other places--any feedback appreciated.

Best meal in Savannah- Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House

I've only been to Savannah twice in my life (about 20 years apart) and my only meal there in both cases was at Mrs. Wilkes--first trip I fortunately got a personally autographed cookbook. Both experiences were awesome and I can't wait to go back. Places like this are the epitome of what Chowhound is all about....

Asian in Knoxville after Peter Chang

Do they still have the cold appetizer Corned Beef with Cilantro, and have you gotten it lately? What other dishes have you tried lately that you liked?
