Live Crawfish in Dallas this weekend. What are prices, where to go, how is quality?
Thanks!
Oh and I am asking because I want to boil them, not buy at a restaurant already cooked.
So....do we have any fans of the food truck gathering downtown by the Symphony
Truck with Meat Pies wasn't there (on Friday last week). I'm told they rotate the offerings aroud a bit.
I had the Ssaam tacos on Thursday, those were great.
Had Sliders on Friday when I saw the Meat Pies were not there (forget the name of the truck....).
In meetings thru Wedndesday, so at best I can go back Thursday to see if Meat Pies are back. (sure hope so!).
So....do we have any fans of the food truck gathering downtown by the Symphony
each day?
Tried the Korean Taco one today. Pretty good.
Thinking about trying the Meat Pies tomorrow.
Became quite a fan of meat pies while in Australia this summer.
IBEX Ethiopian Cuisine - Richardson
So...I was on here last night asking about Ethiopian restaurants.
I had never tried Ethiopian food and was curious about the cuisine, plus one of my kids has a school project on Ethiopia.
I read all of your reviews and also my wfe dug up some. In the end, we decided to try IBEX which is on Greenville Road.
SWEET FIND! The food was great, we had a sampler platter that included a number of vegetarian entrees, a lamb stew, spicy cubed beef, and a chicken dish. Additionally we had a Spicy Beef Tartare. While I admit to not having a base to compare from, I have to say the food was outstanding,it was really good, nice spice level, variety of textures, and nice flat bread to dip into the entrees.
NOT only that, but the owner (Ashe) was a really nice host. We told him that our daughter was doing a school project and he took her around the place to point out various items that had cultural an historical significance. Gave her as much time as she needed.
They also had a setup for coffee there that looked interesting, very traditional. I've been in the coffee business for many years, and am a huge fan of Ethiopian Coffees.
Not sure where this ranks among the other Ethiopian places in town, but as a novice was real impressed. I'd be curious to see what some others who have also been here might say about this place. Worth a look.
Good/Best Ethiopian Restaurants in DFW?
Who and where are they?
I ask for 2 reasons. First, I've been interested in trying Ethiopian. Second, my kid is doing a project for school (6th grade) on Ethiopa, so want a place that not only has the goods food-wise but where she might also learn some about the country/culture first-hand from Ethiopians.
Thanks!
Thanks SF Hounds!
Around 7:30pm for Barbacco. Packed.
Around 8:30pm for Perbacco, pretty scant crowd at the bar and at the restaurant in general.
One night in Haight Ashbury - Magnolia Pub?
Go to Priceline or Hotwire.....I paid $117 for a 4-star room near Union Square last night......
Thanks SF Hounds!
Great suggestions for my one night stay in town last night.
Found myself debating whether to go to Perbacco, or Barbacco.....
My decision? - Go to both!
Barbacco - Had the Duck Liver Bruschetta, Tuna salad, and Mushroom "Jar", paired wth an Aglianico, then a Montepulciano
Perbacco - Went for the Salumi plate, paired that with a glass of Nebbiolo.
Cab ride back to hotel, nice night.
Solo Diner - Seeking SF Recos for Tuesday 4/24
OK. Thanks. I'm not a "trophy hunter" as it relates to "name" restaurants. Sounds like that's what I'd be doing at Mina....
Prefer to find great food, great experiences.
Polenta in DFW
Kroger doesn't necessarily have them. I was looking for that last week. May have better luck in their "Kroger Signature" format.
EDIT: Yes they are just slice and fry after wiping them dry just a bit.
Solo Diner - Seeking SF Recos for Tuesday 4/24
First of all, thanks for the recos. Having trouble deciding. Alot of energy for Barbacco, which looks good. Menu at SPQR looks very intriguing.
Also read some of the older posts that were linked. Having trouble deciding. Wish I had more than one night this trip.
What's the consensus on Michael Mina?
Solo Diner - Seeking SF Recos for Tuesday 4/24
Hi - I'm visiting town this week and will be alone.
Looking for recos for great atmosphere (eat at bar I imagine), great food, solid and deep selection of wines by glass.
Want something really interesting and high caliber food wise. I eat almost all cuisines. Last time I was out there tried A16 (loved it), and Piperade (great food, atmosphere for solo diner not as great).
Would appreciate any suggestions. Staying near Union Square, willing to hop a cab anywhere within the city.
Thank you very much!
Tacos in Dallas are shameful
Tried that new "Republic Taco" joint on 75 near Beltline yesterday. Very disappionting.
Which Dallas Seafood Market, Rex's or T.J.'s?
Haddock is indeed a wonderful fish, very cod-like.....
Good Indian Food?
Curry Pot has recently changed ownership. I think it had better food with old owners. Certainly the Chicken Biryani is not as good as it was previously - I used to think it was about the best I had ever had. Now?? Bleh.....

In Search of Andouille in Dallas!
Just moved to Dallas after 5 years in Baton Rouge - for commercially available somewhat readily, the Savoie is not bad.
Albertsons carried it in the Red Stick, might also carry it here in Dallas.
LaPlace is definitely Andouille central though.....
Beef Tenderloin: a little underdone. How do I correct?
Scientifically impossible for beef to ever be too undercooked.....
That;s just how things are...

La Torre is fabulous. Quaint little place, the family were hand making pasta on a table off to the side, the owner is a little gruff, but in a charming sort of way, and the food was fabulous!
Good Value Recommendations In Sydney, Melbourne, Cairns and Brisbane?
I usually setup international roam before leaving US, worked fine for me in Europe, Mexico, Taiwan, but not in Japan.....

PhilD - That Everyday Eats app looks great. I went ahead and dowloaded it to my phone...having done that of ccourse now begs the question of functionality in AU.
Will my US-Based (AT&T) I-Phone function well down there?

Funny responses.....sounds like Alice may be the culinary equivalent of a some random small western town in the US..... with more brawling.
