Craft beer bars in Tokyo

PCM at the Tokia Building stocks pretty much for full Swan Lake line up these days. No cover charge, 900 yen for a 510ml glass. Cheaper than Swan Lakes own pub and only 5-10 minutes walk away.

IBrew is very reasonable and sems to have a good relationship with the brewer of Loco beers out in Chiba - a very good up and coming brewery. Craft Beer Market Toranomoj is less than a ten minute walk from there.

Beer Horn, friendly staff. Not sure of they still do what was/is a decent nomihodai plan. Beers - just okay really. The competition is fierce these days and so is the standard of beer. Popeye - good introduction to many different breweries and the place is craft beer 101 in terms of the Japan scene. There are cheaper and arguably better options these days however.

Craft beer bars in Tokyo

15 year Tokyo resident and craft beer is my hobby. Brew Dog is possibly the most expensive craft beer bar in the country. 1250 for a pint of Punk IPA and many of their beers between 1500 and 2000 yen per pint. For me that is unjustifiable. Ushi Tora is another bar with prices towards the high end of the scale. Craft Beer Heads - the owner proprietor has to have the biggest chip on his shoulder of any bar owner in the industry. As a result many long-term craft beer hobbyists steer clear of that place. Good bars - there are dozens of them. A useful resource is the Japan Beer Times, a free magazine stocked by many craft beer bars. Just please don't reward too much the behaviour of the establishments listed above. As an aside, Yokohama has many excellent bars. Three top notch examples - Thrash Zone, Antenna America, The Full Monty. There are plenty of others.

Fantastic new wine bar - Parabola

Angst eased. Why are they trying so hard I wonder?.. Their website reads more like a political manifesto than a restaurant menu... I've seen places like this come and go before.. Best go check the place out I suppose if I can get a table.

Mexican restaurants in Tokyo

Admittedly this is based on the testimony of a friend of mine who was referring to getting the terrace seating on a Saturday evening. Other evenings sound easier and it is a nice terrace, just that the food is mediocre at best and that I am afraid is how Mexican food in Tokyo is..

Thank you. Of the former, I had read the 'launch list' and fair enough it is updated and duly noted . Of the latter, still utterly 'spot the wine and guess the price', lovely as it looks nevertheless. Are you working for them and though this irks you must see that they are truly represented? If so you needn't try so hard. It is indeed correct that the wine establishments in Tokyo lead a lot to be desired so I will undoubtedly be paying this place a visit or two.

Good luck getting the terrace at Cielo and the food is not great, not great at all. Two months in advance for that terrace if you want it on the weekend. #gapinthemarket

There is nowhere, do not waste your time. I have had countless conversations about this and your assessment is right - small portions, high prices, lack of authenticity.

Fantastic new wine bar - Parabola

Yes I have waded through the website also and before this gets too negative it looks like a decent venture worth checking out. However, yes there is a however, the website is hugely pompous - basically decreeing that the Tokyo wine scene become London and this be the vehicle - and there are NO prices mentioned for any of the wines. Go see. No prices, and to make note of the very interesting art on the pages of their list, NO prices listed, that is if you can find the names of the wines and good luck in doing so as it is a challenge. This is just the start of the mystique of the website which is in equal parts fascinating and frustrating, and did I say pompous? Let me be straight. Good wine list depending on price, interesting food menu depending on execution, space as of yet unknown - is this somebody's apartment? (yes I also waded through the photographs online), simplicity of offering/statement to the market, hell no! Give me a menu, a wine list, and cut the crap.

Dining near the Grand Hyatt

Nah that is comparing apples and oranges. Roti does Steaks, Oysters, Burgers etc. whereas Cicada is all about Mediterranean dishes - Tagines, 20 types of Sherry, various dips and flat breads etc. I otherwise agree that neither are basically anywhere near the best at being representative, but that depends on what the questioner is really looking for.

Dining near the Grand Hyatt

Excellent recommendations from Uncle Yabai and to my mind mostly spot on comments, though a bit harsh on Cicada I thought! However it is tough to get a reservation at Cicada since the recent change of location.

Top Gaijin eats or Non-Japanese foods in Tokyo

Tony Roma's was just a provocative example. The ribs at Hato's have hardly any meat on them and as a result are underwhelming and expensive. The smoke, marinade and sauce they use are excellent, but surely ribs are supposed to be satisfying and substantial comfort food. That is the ethos of barbecue. Hato's is otherwise an excellent place, a shame you normally need a reservation to get in, but absolutely worth going to.

Ribs, Tony Roma's - at least they are meaty, substantial, old-school yes but this is 'comfort food' not Michelin star cuisine. Heck, make that most USA menus around town, those ribs at Hatos are style over substance. This all being true, I echo other voices saying that Baird Beer's Taproom in Bashamichi has very good and authentic barbecue as a whole, whether on the bar menu or the huge individual Fat Boy Ribs for those that crave such a thing, that they grill for you one by one, price decided per 100g. I personally also like the Sakura smoked chicken.

Kawagoe Festival

20 minute walk from the station to the festival, interesting but not culinarily inspiring. Go for the culture but not the food. Not far enough away from Tokyo to be unique or regionally quirky.

Takayama Eats

You are on the right track with the Ryokan's own food the first night. Go local, it is not such a big place, more of a town than a city, and there really aren't any destination restaurants to fail to find and miss out on. You really need to decide when you get there. It is nothing like Tokyo.

Ninisix, I am sure that you are trying to help, but I cannot understand your English. What does 'chose Ginza' mean, and what connection does tsumami have to this thread?
