lunch in Raleigh 3 days next week

Thank's again for all the suggestions and websites. so far I've been able to look up Coquette, Bella Monica, and Gonza's Tacos. Hubby has eaten at McCormick and Schmick and said it was good. Little one and I will be doing lunch at Coquette, all ready know I'm ordering the truffle fries and seafood crepes. Most likely doing diner at Gonza's one night and Bella Monica's another. Lunch the next 2 days will be the sushi and probably Wang's.

Do you have family/friends who don't appreciate good home cooking?

OMG! Thank you HighHeels for starting this post! I'm just sorry I didn't see it sooner.Melpy and Cleo, peeing my pants over your stories, I'm so sorry for your holidays, but can totally relate. Sadly, it's my hubby who not only has no appreciation for my love and need of cooking and entertaining, but is so damn limited to what he'll eat or even try!!! Argh! If he didn't travel most of the week so the girl's and i could have our fancy girly dinners, who knows if we'd still be married.
I have a Thanksgiving story as well. First of all Thanks giving is a holiday I start planning in Sept. I do different themes each year. One particular year we had hubby's sister and her family over. I went all out. His sister and I conversed daily before the event. She knew how much thought was going into this meal, that I had special place settings, tablecloth, silverware, etc. Anyway thanks giving day comes and she and her family, hubby and 4 kids, show up with all the kids in their PJ's. If that's not a "hurry up let's get this over with" sign, I don't know what is. The reaction to the meal from her family was, her hubby, "this is the best turkey I have ever had!" and "you make homemade gravy!?" Her oldest son, "This ham is way better than mom's, her's is always
dried out" Her reaction, rolls eye's, rolls eyes and an under the breath comment on me being a showoff.

P.S I too would love your macarons. There's a special little French bakery my daughter and I love where we get them. Round of applause to you for making them homemade!

Fermented Foods!

I have Nourishing Traditions, I've made the spicy sauerkraut, yummy! I make sure I never run out of beet kvass, Can't get enough of it. Does anyone make kombucha? I've had an on and off brew going for about a year. My scoby is hibernating right now, I just can't seem to get my brew fizzy enough, like the store bought stuff. I've done lot's of internet research, still can't achieve the fizz. Suggestions would be appreciated:)

Substitution for flour in cream sauce?

You could also use chickpea flour.

Angus Barn in Raleigh What to have and what to avoid

I'm not a big fan of desserts, I rarely order them, I just know that the Angus Barn has really good creme brulee.

What does "eating healthy" mean anymore?

Zackly, have you looked into the Nourishing Traditions cookbook by Sally Fallon?

Angus Barn in Raleigh What to have and what to avoid

We lived in Raleigh for almost ten years, in Fort Mill SC. now, but you can't go wrong with the prime rib, perfect every time. And the creme brulee'
We took our oldest daughter there to celebrate her 12th birthday. She mentioned to our server that she wanted to be a chef and he took her back into the kitchen and let her decorate her birthday cake. get service every time we've been.

Masterchef U.S. season 2014 spoilers

Is it just me or did anyone have a problem with Courtney and the other girl helping Frances B. make a compote butter? That just seems wrong and should have been reprimanded by the judges.

Dining Recommendations - Savannah

I'm so glad you had a nice trip! And very happy to hear you had a pleasant experience at the Olde Pink House. We took our two younger girls to Disney World all last week, but stayed over night in Savannah on the way. My husband suggested I take the girl's to the Pink House for dinner that night since they had never been, and he would go watch the game at a nearby pub. I had the scallops this time, my 14 year old had the flounder, and I just asked our server to bring out an extra plate for my 4 year old. My 14 year old loved the flounder, my 4 year old devoured everything we put on her plate. I do have to mention that the scallops were perfectly cooked, but alittle gritty in two of them. Next time we visit Charleston I will definitely be trying Husk. I'm glad it did not disapoint!

“A Cookbook a Week” Challenge (CAWC) – Thread #2 - Will you join me? [old]

Thank you so much for starting a second thread! I'm adding Wild Fare & Wise words, recipes and writings from the great outdoors. Love the delicious quotes throughout and the wild game bird recipes. Also lots of venison recipes. Theres a Blueberry backstrap recipe I will be trying in a few days. Its venison loin steaks grilled medium rare with a blueberry sauce. Will let you know the outcome.
"Hunger clutched at your belly and the cookin' was easy. You gutted a bluefish, stuck him on a stick, and let him baste himself with his own fat. His hide cracked as he cooked, but inside he was sweet as peaches."

Tailgating recipes

Anybody a die hard tailgater? If so, I would love to hear some of your tried and true tailgate recipes.
We are Raider fans, don't judge:) and are very excited they are coming to Charlotte to play the Panthers this year. Hubby goes to lots of games all over, but this will be only my second time in a long time, ever tailgating. I want to make it a really great time.
Thanks

The Olde Pink House is hands down my favorite! Might I suggest the flash fried flounder? Out of this world. Locall 11 Ten is also hubby and I's favorite for cocktails.

K cups, Single servings, Starbucks...

I have the Cuisinart singal brew and I buy the Starbucks k-cups from Cost Co for it. I love it!
With the Cuisinart machine, you can choose 4,6,8, or 10 ounce servings. You can brew just hot water for tea or whatever. My daughter and I are the only ones who drink coffe, just one cup each in the mornings, and it's so fresh and delicious. With the singal servings, nothing goes to waste.
