Should this be made with a sponge cake/basic yellow cake/chiffon cake/ladyfingers?
I want to make a dessert with cake layers/fresh bananas/and mascarpone whipped cream frosting/filling.
If you can envision this, what would you make it with? I want something that is very soft with a velvety and tender texture.
Is it possible to make CRISPY oven baked fries?
I've followed so many recipes, but no matter what the fries are soggy or limp. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Looking for Maida Heatter banana cake (torte?) recipe
This cake had rum and it had some kind of custard/cream filling. Thanks!
If we liked the atmosphere at Carmine's.....
Two 40-something women, leaving their husbands back home in New Orleans, wanting to blow it out while in New York. Any suggestions for a big, lively, restaurant, casual but not scruffy with a big ole' bar, good food of course, maybe Italian or Greek or Latin American (no steak, no sushi, no French) - about $150ish at most for both of us, including wine. We're in the Murray Hill area, but anywhere in Manhattan would be fine. I want our first night out fun! Thanks so much. Any suggestions at all about anything at all would be welcome!
Fun place to eat Halloween night?
We'll be in town for the marathon and are coming in Halloween night. I love Halloween and I'm going to hate to miss trick or treating back home! So does anyone know of a restaurant that does something a little different for Halloween? Thanks.
How do I say I order macaroons in French??
I don't want to get kicked out of Laduree for my horrible French, so how do I say "I want 12 macaroons please". My friend was actually asked to leave a shop in Belgium b/c she didn't speak French!!!!
Good bakery/pastry shop in San Antonio?
I'm spending San Antonio with my in-laws at Xmas and wanted to buy a cake for Xmas dinner. Can anyone suggest a really good bakery?
Best mojito in South Beach?
Or is there something they're drinking now??? I had a post asking about cocktails at Barton G's and that got me wondering where are the best cocktails, if not there?
What time to dine in SoBe to avoid long waits?
Is Barton G worth going to for drinks then? I heard the drinks are fairly unusual.
What time to dine in SoBe to avoid long waits?
I keep reading reviews of various South Beach hot spots saying that "I had a 9:00 pm reservation, but didn't get seated til 10:30" etc.
What time is early enough to avoid that - specifically on a weekend? Would I be likely to have long waits at any of these restaurants - Yuca, Ola, Barton G, Devito, Sardinia? THanks.
Quintessential SoBe dining for 2 gals?
Thank you so much for your reply. What do you think of Ola Restaurant?
Is Wish still good in South Beach?
Went there several years ago and liked it. Nice atmosphere. Is it still a good place to go?
disney dining?
The Yachtsman Steakhouse in the Disney Yacht and Beach Club Resort - one of the best meals of my life, believe it or not. Everything was first class. Very very good steak, chicken, desserts.
Quintessential SoBe dining for 2 gals?
My best girlfriend and I will be going to South Beach for the Food and WIne Festival (my b-day present to myself). The nights we are not going to events I would like to go to something with wonderful local food and an only-in-South-beach atmosphere, maybe outdoor dining, nothing stuffy or formal. We'll be staying at the Loew's and would like to walk or take a short cab ride. Any and all prices.
Need recs for one night in Destin - any price
In the Sandestin Resort there is a good steakhouse called Seagars. Formal, good food and nice beach views, expensive. Also, Bonefish Grill is very good. It is part of a chain, but the food was surprisingly good. Some of the best crabcakes I've ever had. We all loved it. Very busy crowd. Seagars is more subdued.
San Antonio Tex Mex
Mi Tierra IS an experience. Loud, huge, great bar. La Fogata is very nice. I've been there twice and always like it. It's on Vance Jackson. I can also recommend Chacho's - fun, funky, very busy. They all make good margaritas, I live in New Orleans, and good margaritas are hard to come by but most good MExican restaurants in San ANtonio make good ones.
