Trader Joes... Please, just ring up my groceries.

I used to now a fun gal that used to work at a major drug chain (the name starts with a W), she would block part of the bar code with her finger on a pack of condoms and then get on the PA "price check on register 3 for trojan condoms, 12 pack", she was a pisser.

Need a place for a long, quiet lunch

Get some nice deli sandwiches and salads and go up around the old Eastern State Penitentiary. Real quiet up there.

What DON'T you like in a sandwich?

I don't like:
cheese on cold sandwiches
miracle whip
P&P loaf
Theres a big fad with nutella, yuck!
most cold sandwiches without a Jalepeno or yellow chile on the side.

Spice Mixes/Seasoned Salts - preferences please...

This is one great all around seasoning, exceptional on just about any potato dish.

How Do You Like Your Cold Cuts Sliced, Thin or Thick?

Very thin but not shaved to the point it's falling apart and I like all kinds except super smoky or any of the "blood" products. Any kind of head cheese or souse sandwich is a real treat for me. Probably my favorite would be thin sliced rare roast beef on a nice bakery made white roll with mayo super thin red onion salt and pepper. Many times when it's hot in the summer we will have CC & cheese with crackers and jalepenos for supper.

12 percent of spices brought to the United States are contaminated with insect parts, whole insects, rodent hairs and other things

I watched a documentary years ago about a Korean food company that almost went bankrupt, a firm came in and saved the company. They appointed a woman to to take over as ingredient buyer, she went to China and Thailand where they were buying their spices, she had a hidden camera. Needless to say the places were filthy, she had film footage of workers sweeping the floor and throwing it in the big spice bins. She fired them on the spot and hired a firm from the middle east. Quite an eye opening documentary.

America's Test Kitchen

Kimbal is irritating, I'd like to see those two gals have their own show without him standing around with his dweeb comments.

Holiday Stress Advice?

Good post, I would imagine they are all eating on the couch and floor fooling with "devices" during the "meal". After the first time you don't go, it get's easier each year after not to. Paper plates and plastic forks for a holiday meal, Oh brother.......

Why is this dish so greasy?

Much thought and grief over nothing, and as Trockwood above said "tomorrow is different". Just find a new place.

Arby's Smokehouse Brisket Sandwich

They had a coupon in the paper for a free one so I tried it, It's terrible. Dry, you can't slice a properly cook/smoked brisket that thin. Bad bad bad.

Holiday Stress Advice?

Threw all that stuff out the window years ago, Just me and the wife some good beef tamales and Arizona tangelos picked fresh off the tree. That's Christmas for us. So much better.

Halloween Candy

Those wonderful peanutbutter kisses, ya know the ones, 300 for a dollar. 1 apeice and any left over, keep them on a shelf someplace so they are good and hard for next year.

Naw, we don't get many kids, I give out full size hershey bars, get them at WM $2.79 for a pack of 10, get 2 packs, that usually does it.

What's your impression when you pull into a restaurant and see employees out back on a smoke break?

Just as long as they are not taking them during a rush, and they wash their hands, I look at it from the bosses point of view.

Anyone shopped Big Lots for grocery items?

I go about once a month, it's the only place in the west where I can find Wise Dipsy Doodle corn chips which I really like. I bought a small compact pocket watch there 10 or so years ago on close out for $4, still going strong.

Education on smoked pork shoulder ham

I think the smoked picnics have a much richer flavor than the true ham. In some parts of the country you can get a boneless rolled smoked picnic that, is my favorite.

the tediousness of label reading

Read all you want, just don't block the aisle and shelves while you are doing it, ya know!

Apple Picking

Do it after the first frost, they taste much better.

Why Are Chain Restaurants So Much Worse In Hawaii

The work ethic in Hawaii is at best lacadazical. 70 percent of Hawaiians really don't give a shit. I've been ther many times.

mystery knife - any thoughts?

It possibly could be a scallop shuckers knife. I saw commercial fisherman and their help using a knife similar to that out on LI. That was over 30 years ago, might be wrong.

What dishes / foods do you NEVER get at restaurants?

I don't order drinks, I don't care for booze, wine or beer when I eat. I was in the biz for years and I understand about profits but $2.50 for iced tea, nope. I'll have coffee at breakfast if I haven't had a bunch prior.

Round cake pan recommendation?

Walmart has a really nice selection of Wilton cake pans at a great price, you can also find them on Amazon for a good price. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg. Wilton pans will hold up to anything, just don't use super abrasives when cleaning. I've had mine over 20 years.
