Caramel Sauce without Cream or Butter

Oddly enough I just made Alton Browns dulce de leche. It came out great. It can be used to sweeten coffee, spread on toast,as a dip for fried dough,or grilled fruit.It would be great on top of goat cheese on some grilled flatbead. It takes about 3 hours but is so worth it.
I do not know what SNAP is but I am on a tight budget and this is how I have to eat and feed my family all the time. I make everything from scratch and work full time.

Is it possible to make a delicious pork chop?

I would recommend lemon pepper and garlic,salt and pepper. Let them marinate in the spice mixture while you prepare the rest of dinner. The grill them. I used to dislike pork very much. This type of simple recipe made me understand how some one could enjoy them.

BEST Recipes To Impress a Man... Please HELP!

Every man I have ever known loves grilled steak, french fries and salad. You can add garlic bread and a veggie like corn if you want. The dessert can be anything . Its all good. I have all brothers and a couple of sons and they would love this meal.

Newest trend, bizarre flavored Potato chips. Why mess with a good thing?

The only one that I like is the dill pickle chips. They taste more dill and less pickle.

I love those shrimp crisps too. I used to be able to make them fresh at home. Those other new chips like the lays chicken and waffles were gross. Nasty and crappy tasting.

Do school lunches include a sweet dessert or just fruit?

I work at a school and things have changed a great deal since the 90 s. There are regulations that say the children can not have as much sugar and fat as they could in the past. Mostly the have fresh fruit, canned fruit,and dried fruit. They have options like snacks that they can purchase with or with out a lunch purchase. They have a lot of different choices in snacks,like cookies,ice cream,baked chips and pretzels.

"Who-Knows-Why?" dislikes

I have a 18 year old son who has not eaten an egg in egg form( he has eaten non visible egg, and mix in egg) since he was maybe 2. He used to eat it with ketchup.That to me was gross, but he ate them. He used to eat mushrooms. Raw cooked ,anyway. He went to pre K and that was the end of mushrooms.He started out eating everything and other than meat, Now he eats most meats and picks out a lot of veggies he used to eat. His younger brother will not eat corn on the cob or onions, or pretty much anything you would find in a salad.

I have just gotten to the point where I can eat greek olives. I love all sorts of green olives. Black olives in a can, groovy. Maybe in the last year or 2 I have eaten greek olives. But the wrinkled oil cured ones. Yuck.

I dislike thyme also. I just skip it when it says to add it to a recipe. I grew in to cumin, and cilantro, but I cant abide with thyme. It really does over power in a bad soapy way.

I am an odd one. I will eat any other vegetable besides raw peppers and raw tomatoes. I will eat them roasted and cooked but not raw. I will not drink a glass of milk. My throat seals shut when the glass goes to my lips. I am the only one I have ever seen not be able to drink milk. I cook with milk and I eat whipped cream . I also don't like any melon except for Honey dew. and I do not eat papaya or mango, especially no mango.

Beans ?

I agree. Rinse them off well and I would put them in the fridge for a bit to chill. There should no more heavy order coming from them. Try chick peas (garbonzos) they are wonderful in salads or make a nice garlicy hummus. Try a can of both kidney and black beans along with green beans in a salad. Mix all of the beans with onion ,red pepper with some Italian dressing some extra vinegar and sugar. My kids love it.

Look at dr oteker dessert mixes. I have seen this pudding in germany when I was there as a teenager. I remember the chocolate pudding with the vanilla sauce.

How come my tuna fish never tastes as good as sandwich shops?

I have made many tuna sandwiches in my 23 years working in a deli. It goes chunk light in water. Put it in a colander an give it a quick rinse.Squeeze it until no water remains. Add salt pepper lemon juice and onion powder. Use hellmans extra heavy duty mayo. You can wrap it up and let it sit until the next day. Pour off any liquid that loosened up over night. It is good to go. If you decide to go for a spicier flavor we sometimes used a little old bay in it along with celery and dill pickle chips that had been liquidfyed in the food processor. Blend with some sweet vidalia onion with the pickle chips but finely dice the celery. It also does not need to be a fresh lemon it can be real lem reconstatuted.

waffle recipes

I have made many waffles. They were and are my favorite breakfast item. I am going to throw something out there and you can use it or not.....Krusteaz. I no longer bother making them from scratch. I use their belgian waffle mix ( The only one I like) in my waffle maker. They are super fab and I am a picky fussy make every thing from scratch kind of gal. Trust me on this one and try .. you will thank me.

I ate too much of it once...

For me it was Freihofers chocolate chip cookies. I ate a whole box of them in high school and never wanted a chocolate chip cookie again. My husband and children can not understand why anyone would not like them.

Potato Latkes

I have a little trick for anyone who has problems making latkes, finely chop or grate some potatoes at the end. I use a food processor grate all my potatoes. After all of the potatoes are done I put a hand full back in the bowl and add the onion and blend until finely chopped. This will give your latkes more body. Add meal or flour until the liquid thickens a bit, and dont bother separating the egg. Potato latkes are not light puffs. They are lumps of potato goodness.

Rotisserie chicken from a supermarket recipe

I used to work at a supermarket who made rotisserie chicken. If they are flavored they came in marinated (from Perdue) There was BBQ, Lemon Pepper and traditional. They are cooked on the rods far longer than most home cooks would cook their chicken. To do it at home , brine for a day , then take out of the brine and put it in to the marinate of choice in the fridge for 8 hours and cook it turning it twice to expose its full surface to the heat. If you have a convection oven all the better, And if you really want that same texture let it over cook slightly so it will fall of the bone. Also when you brine make sure there is a good percentage of sugar in the brine .
