Providence on a recent Sunday
Hello All,
My wife and I stayed at the Biltmore on a Sunday night a few weeks back to celebrate our anniversary...not really getting away we live a whole 3 miles away...but no short loud people were there. But we had a couple of surprises. Since my wife is pregnant she has eat every couple of hours so we snuck down to the bar and McCormick and Schmitts for an app or two. We had never been there as my wife is a vegatarian (fish is meat) and there are many "non-chain" choices out there, but the apps were great. Due to the time of day on a SUnday they were like 1.99 and great we tried a bunch of different things but they were all great,,very surprising.
Dinner was at Local 121 which was our first trip and having followed the posts here had I some reservations. The place looks great, but they are not ready for prime time. The menu only had about 1/4 of the items listed on their on-line menu (including anything we wanted to have) so I got the burger which was WD and not MR, and the bun was big enough to hold a porterhouse and totaly absorbed the burger...I don't care if it came from Olga's if its that big the burger experiance is off. My wife had an uninspired cous cous dish.
Oak, parkside, blaze for providence lunch
I must tell you that I am surprised by the two posts above. My wife and I have dined at Oak many times and always had a good experience, both in terms of food and service. I like that it lacks much of the pretense as other E. Side places...however the wine list is kinda lame
Providence Poor Economy Deals
They sent me an emai, I assume b/c I stayed there before, hopefully they are still doing it
Business dinner near Norwood, where should we go?
I strongly second bistro 712...only been once, but it was very good. I would also avoid Sky as the food is so-so. The atmosphere is hip and the place looks great and if that is more important then go for it
Best delivery/takeaway in Pawtucket, RI?
haven't been able to find agreeable mexican yet...for chinese Apsara Palace right over the border on Hope St in Providence or Jacky's Galaxey in N. Providence on Mineral Spring...neither deliver but are good, I do like the china inn as well just not as much
Providence Poor Economy Deals
Not exactly a rest. deal but the Biltmore is having a $90/room special
Providence Dining for Waterfire
10 steak and sushi...I love the steaks and there is no question about its trendiness/bar scene
Providence Dining for Waterfire
what is the deal with the 2 for $89 promotion? I checked their website and didn't see anything there. thanks in advance
North End Dinner for about 8
Hi There,
I am planning a work dinner for 8 co-workers (some are chowish and some are not) on a Wednesday night in June. We will be dining in the North End, and I haven't been for a long time and need some help. I have searched this board up and down and have not found too much agreement. I checked out some websites of places that 'hounds did seem to like consistantly but Prezzo and Mama Maria's are a little too pricy to get the boss to pick up the tab. The daily catch is too seafood specific for our group. So what I could use is a couple of places where the food is great (but not as pricey as Prezzo), and also a few places to avoid would also be great.
thanks in advance,

wedding question
Check out the Chatham Bars Inn...expensive but nice spot and Chatham is a nice little cape town
Waterville Valley - NH anything good?
Hello,
Family is heading to WV for family vaction. Looking for some recs in the area. Usually one of the nights my wife and I leave the kids with Nana and head out for a good dinner ourselves. So looking for overall good places for the family, and one really good place for my wife and I (can be up to 30 minutes away).
thanks,
j
Just Moved to Providence RI...LOST
welcome,
For Indian we really like Kabob and Curry and Rasoi (same folks)...India is not bad either (I dig the duck). For burgers I like Red Stripe (inconsitant in some ways but good burger). I hear the burger at La Laiterie is unreal but haven't made it there yet. I don't do Sushi but 10 Steak and Sushi is one of my faves.
If you eat out a lot then maybe Spikes might be a good option every now and then...great dogs and I hear the wings are good as well.
Enjoy,
j
Tasty & beautiful wedding cake in Newport/Providence?
We haved used LaSalle Bakery in Providence for B-days and the cakes have been very tasty, and vrey well done.
Saturday brunch in RI?
Like the brunch at Oak on Hope St...should meet your geograpic and $$ requirements
Business (expense account!) dinner near Providence
I have been to Mill's twice and both times the service was awful, and the food was good, but not worth the $$ nor the wait. But many folks here rave about it, so maybe I caught it on bad nights...but there are too many very good places around to give it a third try
Business (expense account!) dinner near Providence
I think for "interesting" I'd choose 10...for my personal taste I always see Gracies as the special place for anniversaries, etc. The food is great, but in my opinion more of a couples spot. If I was meeting an associate in PVD I would choose 10. I hear good things about Temple haven't been yet...can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris if steak is your thing. 10, Temple and RC's are all very easy to get to off the highway.
Providence/Pawtucket and pizza delivery
jgl,
I live in the area as well...right off of weeden and power. I really like twins and had the same issues as you did on my first shot. Next time ask for it well done...takes forever (or foreva as we like to say in RI), but makes the dough crunchier and tastier.
but other than that the options are pretty slim...wildfire on MSA is good but no delievery and a little pricy
Pastrami in New England
The best I have had in NE is the P&G Deli on Boston Rd. in Dorcester. Small Mom and Pop Polish deli. The pastrami is very good and a very good deal.
Business dinner in Providence - large group:
I suppose Dave and Busters is out of the question. I am sure for that many people you would be able to score some power cards and get a few free games of pool. All kidding aside I am a fan of Ten. I think they have a private area in the back and they are open on Monday's. Ten can be loud around the bar area, but I imigine a Monday won't be too bad at all and I do like the food.
Rhode Island Roast Beef Smackdown
I have to give a slight edge to Chelo's, but do prefer the buns at Walts. And I do have to give you credit "Rhode Island Roast Beef Smackdown" is by far the best topic title I have seen in a while. Sounds like a reality show that would be worth watching, or some cheesy promotion to get you to go to Twin River or Newport Grand. What about the Roast Beef place in E. Providence right off of 195 and 114 (I forget the name)?
Walking Distance to the Prov. Biltmore
Hello All,
My wife and her friend are going to staying at the Biltmore in Providence this coming Saturday and they are looking for recs that are walking distance. My wife is a vegaterian and her friend I think will eat anything. They are looking for some place fun and not too stuffy, my wife thinks 80 degrees is "chilly" so it needs to be a pretty close walk. Mc & S is out due to the lack 'o veggie options. She is a fan of Gracies that so that is option, but if there is anything else out there that is close I'd love to hear it...
thanks,
j
Searching for bliss in Providence
I would second Gracies...my wife and I are big fans. Cav is also very good, but we haven't been in a while.
Restaurants in Chatham, MA
My wife and i did Vining's and really liked it...it is above the Dunks downtown. Fancy but not too fancy.
Looking for a nice restaurant, Amherst
as a former student there I feel your pain about the $$. Not sure about your budget, but Carmelina's in Hadley is fantastic. In Noho, Fitzwilly's is ok nothing too exciting but not expensive not fine dining either...the Green St. Cafe (I think that is the name) is also great and romantic, but may be too $$. Another nice spot in the area is Chandlers in S. Deerfield...I think its right on 116 past Bubs...also many people like spoletto in NoHo, but I think its overated...Teapot is good if Asain is what you are interested in
Dinner in Newburyport?
Thanks to all...due to a scheduling snafu we never made it to Newburyport, but hopefully soon
Garden Grille Cafe? (Pawtucket)
My wife is a vegatarian and we both really dig this place. I agree about the service...more amusing than annoying. Their Veg chili (special) is about as good as gets, and their pizza used to be my favorite (even if there was no meat). Then they switched to whole-wheat crust and now it is not that good. But all in all I never thought i would like a veg place, but everything I have tried I have liked (except the new pizza). Also if you are in a meat mood...LJs BBQ in the same plaza is very good.
Chatham - Help Please
Thanks for the replys...we ended up trying Vining's and really liked it...if there was ever a reward for the best meal on the second story of a mini-mall over a Dunks...this place would win hands down.
Chatham - Help Please
Hello All,
My wife and I were planning on going to Newburyport this weekend, but due to a scheduling error we had to scrap that. Now we are going to Chatham and staying at the Chatham Bars Inn. Anyone have some good dinner recs for Chatham.
thanks,
