Hello everyone! This summer I am hoping to challenge myself by cooking a cut of meat or type of seafood that I have never tried before every week (I live on the West Coast of Canada, so I have great access to a variety of sea life). I'd place my cooking experience at "moderate" - I can cook many types of meat/seafood well but they tend to be expensive pieces such as halibut, rack of lamb, scallops etc. I would love to try cooking some cuts that are a little more obscure (I have a great butcher just 2 minutes away), but I really don't know where to start!
If you were to recommend 8-10 cuts of meat or pieces of seafood for this "challenge" what would they be and in what order? I'm reasonably adventurous, for example I'd be willing to attempt tongue, but I draw the line at testicles!
Thanks so much, I *really* appreciate everyone's recommendations!
This weekend I am having a few girls over that I haven't seen in 10 years or so, and I need food/drinks suggestions! I recently moved back to the city where I spent my elementary school years for grad school, and I am having a few girls I knew eons ago over for drinks/appies before we head out a bar or pub. I am a big foodie and love to cook, but I am really worried about "over doing it" and making my guests uncomfortable (ie. I have been directly warned by my brother that I need to tone my cooking down for this event). Does anyone have any appetizer suggestions that are tasty but casual, and recommendations on how many varieties I should make? We are in our early to mid twenties, if that makes a difference, and I have easy access to an oven/stove top.
Thanks so much for your help!
