Pad Thai--is it an authentically Thai dish?

I like spicy, but I like to have one non spicy dish to eat to lessen the burn as I eat Three bites curry, one or two of PT They actually mix well chewed together too.. We usually get Rad Na or Pad Thai for that purpose plus they taste good. Pad Kee Moa we love also, but that is a spicy noodle dish so when we get that plus a curry or chili dish then it is a hot night on the town.

For years we have gone to Brookside Thai in Bloomfield, NJ and the food is great. Pad Thai does not seem to have ketchup and is the best Pad Thai I have had. I did have Pad Thai at another restaurant and right a way I said to my wife, "This really tastes tomatoey." She agreed. I did not make the ketchup connection, but on hearing this I realize that it was ketchup I tasted. I will stick with Brookside in the future.

Pancakes-Best in NJ?

Thumbs up for Sweet Basil's, who have moved to Livingston by the way.

498 South Livingston Avenue Livingston, NJ 07039

Haven't been to the new location yet, but I am sure the food is still good.

I love Bluestone too. I usually get an omelette there or oatmeal. Both good. Coffee is excellent.

Pancakes-Best in NJ?

We have liked Original Pancake House in West Caldwell for years. Love the bacon pancakes. I went with my daughter to Country Pancake House in Ridgewood yesterday to try something new after seeing good reviews here and else where. They were not what I expected. Sure, you get a big plate of big thick pancakes that looks pretty impressive. Right away I thought, "I'm going to have leftovers." After waiting quite a while, but being patient because I anticipated getting some of the best pancakes in NJ, they finally came. Pecan for me and lemon poppy seed for her. As I started eating I noticed that the pancakes did not have much flavor. I kept eating, hoping that maybe they would grow on me, but they didn't. I didn't want to say anything to my daughter because maybe her's were good and I didn't want to influence her opinion. Finally after eating in silence for a few minutes she looked at me and said, "These aren't that good." I had to agree. I took a taste of her lemon poppyseed pancakes and tasted hardly any lemon. There were three lemon slices on top, but the few squirts that supplied didn't do much. We were there Sept. 4th 2012. Did they go under new management recently? I read reviews from not long ago raving about this place. If quantity is your thing then yes, this place gives you a lot, but I also like some quality with my quantity. Some flavor. I tried to rescue my pancakes by pouring more syrup on them and putting way more butter than I normally do, but the syrup hardly tasted of maple so it didn't help much. I will be glad to go back to Original Pancake House next time I want pancakes and I think I will have a new appreciation for them.
