Spaghetti with ketchup - does anyone else eat this?

OMG, this brought back such fond memories for me! When I was in 9th grade, I had a friend whose family had a camper trailer. We were allowed to "camp out" in it about twice a month. We always had spaghetti noodles w/ketchup, lots of black pepper and canned Parm cheese, a large bag of peanut M&M's, Chips Ahoy cookies, Lays Classic Chips w/French Onion dip and Cokes. We had a radio going and all of our favorite girl magazines. We talked, laughed, dreamed and shed a few tears. No T.V., no computer, no cell phone, etc., teens these days couldn't survive a night like that, lol. She and I always had a blast!! Oh, there might have been some gossiping going on, too. :D

Foods that are Unfairly Maligned

I'm SO glad I started reading this thread! I've made RV cakes for years (DD's favorite) and while I've made some pretty good RV cakes, I've got to try this one after reading the reviews here. I'm going to make a trial run to make sure I get it right, then it will be on our T-day menu and/or Christmas menu.

As for unfair food reputations - I eat what I like, I don't care what others think. I happen to love canned sardines packed in soybean oil, my grown kids tell me I'm crazy, don't care - sardines on a cracker topped with either hot sauce or yellow mustard???? YUM :)

I respect what others have a taste for and I say "Go for it!"

New to Me Product/ Sheets of Wafers

hahaha, me, too!

I'm going to look for those. I like the idea of ice cream sandwiches and dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with nuts for a not too sweet dessert, like when you want just a bite of something.

Celery is Evil?

I love the tender leaves in my potato soup
soups/stews

I've even finely diced it for omelets

wrap it in foil and it keeps for weeks in the fridge

Cleaning up after dinner.

My kitchen has to be all clean before I can enjoy my TV/reading/computer time in the evening or before going to bed or before I leave the house. That's just me. If my son dirties anything before he goes to bed, he better clean it up before I hit the kitchen in the a.m. Occasionally I do get in the kitchen in the morning and there is a dish/bowl/utensil in the sink, I get over it, lol. I try not to sweat the small stuff, but I do prefer a clean kitchen in the mornings.

DO YOU EAT CAKE OVER THE SINK?

Cool story!

I'm an over the sink eater. Juicy fruits, boiled peanuts, crumbly foods, etc. If I want a snack and my kitchen is all clean, to the sink I go.

*snort* that was funny!

I've just finished reading this entire thread, y'all do some serious snacking! Some great ideas and combos I would have never thought of, love me some snacks.

Snack of my afternoon was Wickles w/Classic Lays potato chips. Those are some fantastic pickles!

Now I'm craving nuts, cashews to be specific.

Why, TY! Bacon makes everything better, lol. Another, LOL, yes, the aromas will make you want to chew your arm off!

I made this dish again yesterday as a side to the Chicken Bog I made. It was the perfect meal for the rainy day we had here yesterday.

I'm a new "hound" and am loving all the new ideas and dishes I'm reading about on this site. There are so many recipes I want to try!

Treat is an understatement, wow!! I followed the recipe almost to a "T." The only thing I did different was add strips of bacon (5) across the top before baking. The cabbage was tender, as were the carrots and onions, and the aroma was heavenly. Before serving, I did a quick grate of Parm over the top, yummy! This dish with baked chicken and mashed potatoes was simply delicious. I will do a couple of things different next time; I will add more carrots and onions and I will cook the bacon first and pour the drippings over the dish before putting in the oven. When it comes out of the oven, I will top with crumbled bacon and the freshly grated Parm. I'm thinking a few sprigs of fresh thyme would also be good. When my son came in from work he said "OMG, mom, what are you cooking?" There was one wedge left and I thought it was all mine, until my daughter stopped by, she scarfed it right up. She then asked me if I would make a dish of this for her and SIL. This would also be so good as a side for roast beef, pork chops/tenderloin, oh heck, it would make a good side for almost anything. I am one happy camper with this dish!

Your best cabbage recipes?

Oh my, this sounds like a recipe I got from a neighbor of mine 30 yrs. ago and lost it. I made the recipe 1 time and dearly loved it! I was single at the time and made it for friends, but never made it again. I have grown children now, one married, so I will for sure be making these cabbage rolls. They'll devour them, and so will I, lol.

I know this thread is old and your post was back in 2006, but I've been searching for cabbage recipes and found this thread. Your picture has inspired me to make this braised cabbage, it looks better than fantastic and I'm a huge cabbage lover!! I have everything but the carrots, I've got to remember to pick a couple up tomorrow.

Ideas for creative use of pre-planned leftovers

Thank you so much, jmcarthur8! This sounds really good; I especially like the Dijon mustard addition. I'll take your advice about not taking the bowl and crackers in while watching TV, lol. With the holidays just around the corner, your ham salad recipe will be a nice addition to our appetizer table, can't wait to try it!

Thanks again! :)

Potato salad secrets?

I'm new here and hope I am posting correctly.

You all are going to think I'm crazy, but a nice ripe in season tomato diced up in PS is delicious!

re: Wickles - great in tuna salad and chicken salad. :)

Tricks you figured out in the kitchen and thought 'good one'!!!

Great tip! I will be picking up some coffee filters. I always get irritated when reheating something in the microwave and food sticks to the wax paper I usually use for a cover, especially cheese.
