Middle Eastern Catering
I've catered from Sunnin before -- in Westwood. I know that Sunnin's reviews have been mixed on the boards, but I've always been pleased.
Tea Party for 7 year old
I have only been to the thousand oaks one, and yes the dress up appears fun, but the food looks terrible! there's no cake provided (I remember only cotton candy and some other candy, but I can be wrong), some little cut-up hot dogs -- really kid food, not really "tea food". the kids do have their own little tea pot w/ juice, so that is cute. The party favors are cheap junk. that given, my 5 year old had fun and wants to have her next b-day party there.....
and there is a website, do a goodle search for olivia's dollhouse and you'll find it.
Oh! I had no idea this string was so old .....
good places for young children
I'm bringing my mostly-well behaved 5 year old to San Francisco for the weekend (from LA). We are staying in the Financial District. Any suggestions for food options that are good for both me and her? Luckily she will eat anything involving noodles (which means Italian, Thai, Chinese) and Mexican. I lived in the city a life time ago (before kids) so I am fairly good at getting around with public transportation .... I know our options on a weekend are limited in the financial district.
TIA, Lori
dinner - MDR, Culver City, or Venice
this was my original idea, but the review said it was noisy there!
dinner - MDR, Culver City, or Venice
I'm looking for a place to have a birthday dinner w/ 2 of my girlfriends this weekend -- a quiet place where we can talk since we don't get to see each other often. Something not too expensive (i.e., Joe's would be too expensive) and with vegetarian options since one is a vegetarian. Venice, Culver City, or Marina del Rey are convenient for the three of us, since we are coming from the south bay and the valley.
Thanks so much!
REVIEW: Take a Bao, Century City
i think that habenero has a decent "tostada" salad. All the other places -- Piknic, Habenero, and Cuvee are overpriced.
REVIEW: Take a Bao, Century City
the sunamerica building (is it still called that?) on the northwest corner, in the back of the building ....actually between the building and the entrance to the parking structure on Avenue of the stars
REVIEW: Take a Bao, Century City
in century city, I tend to go to Mrs Winston's alot -- do it yourself salad bar or sandwich -- and it should come out to be under $10. other than that, the selections are pretty poor .... and since I've worked here off and on for for a total of about 12 years ......
West Side: Chinese with faux (vege) meats?
california vegan on santa monica blvd (at bundy??) has the faux meat options. I've never had them (just the plain tofu) but the food is pretty decent
We fancy a Russian dinner in the SFV tonight
I liked red square, but have never tried the other places ... the borsht was good, as well as .... the little tortellinis - I have forgotten their name!
REVIEW w/pics: Baja Culinary & Wine Tour
we just went to the wine country this week. To add to pleasurepalate's post:
La Casa de Dona Lupe is at 73.5 k on Route 3. There's a nice patio/lawn with chairs and tables to sit and drink the wine. Wine tasting are $3 per person for 4 generous glasses. We also bought a platter of "snacks" -- small taquitos, tortilla chips & a spicey salsa, home-made mild flakey cheese (wonderful), green olives, and garlic bread ($10). You can buy olive oil (about $15) and jams (about $7). It was great to relax on the patio sipping wine and eating the wonderful cheese & olives!
We also went to Tres Mujeres at 87k on Route 3. You go down a windy road and the son of one of the owners (Luis, son of one of the "tres mujeres") poured us some wine to taste. The tasting is free. The bottles cost $20 each and when you buy one, one of the "tres mujeres" writes the name of the wine and the winery on the bottle itself in giold ink -- there are no labels.
party for 85 people- need cheap bulk ideas
I third the recommendation -- we "catered" my daughter's 3rd b-day party from portos and it was great. they also have a location in burbank
office holiday dinner
It's that time of the year again, to find a place for our office holiday dinner. Two of us want to go to Aziza, but we are getting push back from those who want something closer to the financial district, where the office is located.... so any suggestions? (We have a small office of under 10)
thanks in advance.
Abuelitas for Group Dinner?
wine & beer bar.
sometimes there, sometimes not? mean sometimes they are closed when they are not supposed to be? that has not been my experience. (I live close by and drive past it everyday on my commute.) You can call and ask for "opening hours" or something like that if you are concerned. I think the only odd experieinces I have had is going there and finding there's a belly dancing exhibition/recital going on ...
Abuelitas for Group Dinner?
outside on a deck, more "rustic" and a little less nature than seventh ray. It's a smaller outside seating area also.
Abuelitas for Group Dinner?
they don't -- I tried to find their menu on the web but could not. it's less than your budget of $30 a person. There's fish plates w/ sides (similar to the Reel Inn but better), some salads, hamburgers, quesadillas. the specials are pretty good -- my husband swears by the seared ahi tuna asian salad.
Abuelitas for Group Dinner?
i think froggy's is better for a group also .. .. and the food is better
dining in downtown Minneapolis
thanks all for the recommendations. As to the "modest" expense account issue, $100 is too much ... I was going for under $50. Saffron was wonderful, BTW.
dining in downtown Minneapolis
any recommendations for vietnamese or east african close to downtown?
dining in downtown Minneapolis
I'm an LA chowhound who will be in Minneapolis next week, staying downtown, without a car. What are my options for food? I like almost all ethnic food (sushi, mexican, thai, etc.) -- and I will be on a modest expense account - really the only thing I wouldn't be interested in is a steakhouse or somewhere that specializes in red meat/pork (i.e., BBQ) since I am not a big meat eater. Is going outside of downtown feasible in terms of taking a taxi (would it be easy to get one back to my hotel?). I have been to some places in Minneapolis before, such as Acquavit (which I gather has closed) and Chino Latino (when had access to car, not my favorite except for the drinks).
thanks in advance for your recommendations!
Bobby's - Breakfast in Woodland Hills
I like the french toast there! It's a great place (but with no ambiance ... except that of a bare greasy spoon diner)
Yom Kippur Ruined by Solly's Deli...
not a problem with Western bagel, I think, but that he was eating on Yom Kippor . . . fasting is part of the atonement.
amaranta?
has anyone tried amaranta in the topanga westfield mall yet? the menu sounds interesting but the fact that it is in the mall is slightly off-putting ....and terrifying re quality of the food.
Century City farmer's market
it's thursday. It's kind of hard to describe where it is. It's between Avenue of the Stars and Century Park East, in the courtyard of a building that's on santa monica blvd. It's on the other end of bridge over avenue of the stars from the shopping center/
Century City farmer's market
it's in a much better spot! Room to walk. Alot of strawberries/berry venders right now. And heirlooms coming in.
but you asked about food. The only one I have tried is a greek food place, I had the veggie combo plate. it was ok.
quirky coffeehouses
talking stick on ocean park between 17th and 16th
is the cow's end still open on washington between pacific and speedway?
Santa Monica Dining
we recently had dinner at Musha -- it was great. It's Japanese "tapas" -- so it's fun to go to and share the orders.
