Food Trucks in Orlando
The Swede Dish is great- I found them at Eat More Produce on South Orlando Ave near the intersection of Orlando and Orange - their meatballs and mashed potatoes are amazing- as are their chocolate and coconut balls http://swededishfoodtruck.wordpress.com/
Orlando Q. Your ideas.
It is now on Silver Star road- the intersection of Silver star and maybe Hiawassee?
Relocating to Orlando and a huge foodie
The best German food around is the Willow Tree Cafe in Sanford. They now have a grocery/deli open on Magnolia Square- about 1/2 block from the restaurant. http://www.willowtreecafe.com/
Yalaha Bakery is opening a store in Orlando. It is on Orange Avenue, across from Lake Ivanhoe and about 4 doors down from Tim's Wine Store, the best wine store in Orlando

Steel Cut Oats
There are lots of savory recipes out there- it has become more popular in the past year to go savory over sweet. Here are some of my favorites.
1. sweet corn and cumin
2. spinach and oregano (sometimes with a small bit of either cream or neufchatel cheese added)
3. Sauted mushrooms (I saute them in either rendered smoked duck fat or smoked bacon grease, but you can use either regular butter or vegan butter if you choose)
4. I cooked a corned beef- used some of the broth and a bit of the meat, finely diced
Enjoy!
What things do you add to your oatmeal to make it interesting?
1. sweet corn and cumin
2. spinach and oregano
3. some of my favorite jam (am using rose hip jam, ginger jam or strawberry/rhubarb jam now)
4. I made a corned beef, then used some of the broth (did not cook cabbage or potatoes with the beef this time) and some of the meat, finely diced
5. mushrooms (I bought a smoked duck breast and rendered the fat to saute the mushrooms in, but you can use bacon fat instead)
Savory Oatmeal
I just tried a new recipe that I like a lot. I made a corned beef and saved the broth. I then added the broth with some of the meat to my steel-cut oats the next day- loved it!
Savory Oatmeal
I cook the oats in a crock pot with half soy milk and half water. I also put in some sea salt.
Savory Oatmeal
Oh, now- thanks to you! - I have to start writing these down- the avocado/soy/green onions sounds just too good.
Savory Oatmeal
I feel vindicated. Co-workers used to mock me when I brought in my breakfast because I was into savory oatmeals. I use steel cut oats (they are reasonably price when bought in bulk at my favorite health food store- one of the few bargains to be had there) I cook it in a crock pot- works like a charm.
1. Mushrooms and smoked bacon Cook the bacon in a medium frying pan. Remove the meat and dices- put aside for later. Saute the mushrooms and spring onions (you can use chives or any other type of onion) in the same pan. Add the diced bacon. Turn off the heat and put a lid on the pan so that it steams a bits and the flavors meld. Sprinkle mixture on the top of cooked oatmeal.
2. Corn and cumin. This sounds strange but cook the corn, add a bit of butter and a sprinkle of cumin. Put on top of the cooked oatmeal.
3 spinach and oregano- Saute the spinach in olive oil. Chop the oregano finely and add to the spinach. Cook until limp. Add to cooked oatmeal.
What was your favourite childhood concoction, which you now think is disgusting?
I used to work in a Burger King in North Carolina and we were forbidden to call them Suicides- the management thought that it was too offensive!
What was your favourite childhood concoction, which you now think is disgusting?
And I thought that I was the only one who at mayo sandwiches. But, it ran like this. When mom "forgot" to buy groceries, it was a lettuce sandwich until the lettuce ran out. Then it was mayo sandwiches until the mayo or bread ran out. Then, it was anything in the fridge that was fit to eat.
What was your favourite childhood concoction, which you now think is disgusting?
I used to love the beef canned ravioli too- now I think it is nasty!

Here are some to add to your list in Orlando:
Jade Bistro, Edgewater Drive- fusion Japanese
Cliff's BBQ- West Colonial Drive- great slow-cooked BBQ- ribs cooked on weekends only
White Wolf Cafe- Orange Avenue- great soups, salads and quiche
Dandelion Communitea Cafe- S. Thornton Avenue- organic and vegetarian
Best Cuban Restaurant in Orlando / Central Florida?
For a local version of Pollo Tropical, go to Pollo d'Oro on West Colonial. The chicken is marinated in citrus and you can get either black or red beans. All of the sides are great too.
Gin, anyone?
Similar to the Dutch gins in that the flavor of this gin is aromatic, give the French saffron gin by Gabriel Boudier of Dijon a try. I found a bottle in the duty free shop at the Charles de Gaulle airport and it is wonderful.

is there german food in florida???
I have been there and the Willow has great food- just like I used to get when I lived in Germany. It is run by Germans. When I talked with the owner last fall, she told me that they plan on opening a German grocery within the next year. It will also be in Sanford.
Also, if you happen to be in Largo, there is a great German grocery store there- International Wursthaus German Deli. It is at 1995 East Bay Dr, (East of Highland and West of Keene) - 727 586 1980
is there german food in florida???
I have been there and it was nasty. I lived in Germany for 5 years, so I know German food and this was not it.
Traveling to Orlando for business what're some good alternatives?
I have to say that I went to the Ravenous Pig for a pig roast and it was inedible- all that you could taste was salt.
Orlando Q. Your ideas.
As far as I know, the Cecil's on South Orange ave is still open. I think that it is the best BBQ going- and I am a BBQ junkie. The beef brisket is my favorite, but I have had the pork and chicken and they rock too. The sides should be mentioned too- there is lots of variety and all are great!
My true favorite is Cliffs on West Colonial Drive (also called 50 west.) just east of the corner of Pine Hills Road. They have pork, chicken and more all week, but do their ribs on Fridays. If they have chocolate cake when you go, grab it- it is really good.
There is a roadside BBQ place that has been running for quite a while. I have just had the chicken, but it was true smokey, slow cooked BBQ chicken. It is on the corner of North Pine Hills road and Colonial Drive West It is worth checking out and is usually open early evenings Thursday through Sunday.
Is there anyplace to eat in Lynchburg, VA?
You should check out Crown Sterling- http://www.discoverourtown.com/VA/local-52378.html It is very good.
Is there anyplace to eat in Lynchburg, VA?
Wow, does this bring back memories. I was a cook there- Dean King headed up the open mike nights and Jay Stinson owned it. It was a great place to work.
anyone tried Genevieve gin yet?
Can you give me the name of some stores that sell it- I can only find Van Gogh- it is more to my taste than the London Dry gin.
anyone tried Genevieve gin yet?
See if you can find Van Gogh gin- it is a true Dutch-style gin and is very good
