Small work dinner Tuesday night near the Ferry Building

Actually was able to book the Slanted Door. Seems perfect. I didn't realize that I needed to call for a larger party but I was able to get a reservation. Thanks for the ideas.

Small work dinner Tuesday night near the Ferry Building

Well I'm trying to come up with a nice restaurant near the Ferry Building for a Tuesday night dinner with six co-workers. Three of my team is traveling from out of town so I was thinking of taking the Oakland Ferry to add a little fun and get a view of the city. The ferry arrives at 5:10 and we need to leave at 8:25 to head back to Oakland. Slanted Door is booked, Boulevard is a little pricey and a little too fancy. Also have one vegeterian in the group. Kokkari might be a little too far to walk. Epic Roadhouse might also be too pricey.

I thought of just taking the ferry to and from the city and having dinner at Bocanova in Oakland but it might be nice to stay in the city if I can come up with a good spot. We will be out in Pleasaonton during the day. I have searched the board and Open Table but could still use some help. Thanks.

East Bay - Big group with a side of fries

I have gone a couple times for a work lunch. I was skeptical because the site seems to change so much and the menu is all over the map. But it was better than I thought it would be. One time I got the half sandwich soup combo. The other time I was more adventurous and ordered the Monte Cristo and it was good and fun to share with the group. I don't think I'd choose it with the other places around but I'm fine going there.

Have you tried Eddie Papas on Hopyard in Pleasanton? Varied menu and plenty of different types of fries to choose from.

East Bay $1 Oysters - Friday Lunch

I forget about Marica and I didn't know about 3000 Broadway. Both don't work out for lunch. Turkey sandwich hit the spot fortunately.

East Bay $1 Oysters - Friday Lunch

Yep I know but I thought I'd check to see if anyone knows of any secret spots.

East Bay $1 Oysters - Friday Lunch

Let me know if you know of any $1 oysters for lunch tomorrow in the East Bay.

Any Oakland sushi joints that make sushi with brown rice?

Yeah well let me know if you know any. Will also venture to Berkeley. Thanks

Pleasanton eats

Faz can be nice for dinner. Not super fancy but better than most places close by and they put out nibbles at happy hour. I've been to Eddie Papa's a couple times for lunches while out at work. Pretty good with a varied menu. I think the Chili's is a chain or it seemed like one. I have gone to the Indian place across the street a couple times and it is very good but I think I heard that it changed hands. There is also a Mexican restaurant on the way to the freeway with a bar. I think it's El Balazo. They got shut down for their hiring practices but I think it has reopened. Again nothing fancy but you can have a decent burrito or salad and beer or a margarita. I'm pretty sure there is also a Japanese restaurant in the mall that houses Eddie Papa's and Chili's. I've only been there for lunch but it was tasty. Again none of these places are outstanding but you can eat just fine close by.

Best Menu Options at Bellanico in Oakland?

I didn't like it much the first time but we ordered the mains. I like their pastas a great deal. We usually get the fried cauliflower, salad, and share a pasta. I also really like their brunch.

Back to the '90s: Zza's and Spettro?

Yep we used to go to both of those back then and we thought they were the cat's meow. Ended up going to ZZa's a year ago when we were looking for something on a Saturday without a reservation and four kids in tow. It was fine but really nothing like the oodles of good restaurants we have to choose from these days.

Landlocked chowhounder seeking the best SF-area seafood

I'd head over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito and go to Fish. Whatever they have is fresh, in season, sustainably caught and delicious. It's very casual and Sausalito is fun too.

Anyoe tried Ikaros in Oakland?

We had an early dinner at Ikaros on Friday night. We got there around 5:30 and it was pretty full and was totatlly filled when we left an hour later. It's a nicer ambiance that I was expecting. Food was quite good so I wanted to give it a plug since there are not many good Greek restaurants in the area. We ordered fried calamari, mousaka, spanakopita, chicken souvlaki, and drinks. We gobbled up the calamari pretty quick. They serve warmed bread that the kids loved. Souvlaki came with rice and both were very flavorful. The Spanakopita appetizer was served in triangles along with some tzatziki. It was good but I make it with more feta so I didn't think it was a flavorful as I'm used to at home. The mousaka is served in a small casserole piping hot. It came with a Greek salad that was simple and very good. Somehow the tomoates were tasty and the dressing had a good flavor with the oregeno. Once the mousaka cooled down, I really enjoyed the flavors. I was a little surprised to see some sliced potato in the dish but it was still very good and I'd reorder.

The menu is pretty large with lots of good and interesting items that I hadn't seen before. One of the people next to us had the beef souvlakia and it looked delicious cooked rare. Now the tables are pretty close which is why I could see the doneness of the meat pretty good. But all and all, a fun place to go. It's not inexpensiveb but the decor is nicer that you might expec t. Service was friendly and very attentive.

Annual birthday dinner dilemma

Then they probably had the chocolate bread pudding. It's super yummy.

Greenlee's Cinnamon Bread

Also picked up a loaf at the Costco in Livermore. Love it toasted with peanut butter!

where shall we have a late, sit down, lunch in the Oakland/Berkeley area?

You won't be dissappointed by Wood Tavern. I've had lunch their twice and both were truly excellent.

East Bay Brunches: A little more interesting than straight up diners?

We had a great brunch yesterday at Bellanico on Park Blvd. Camino seemed a little too austere for our party of 6. We all had thoroughly enjoyed our dishes and the menu was pretty varied. A couple of us had the pancetta eggs benedict with hollandaise. Others had eggs florentine, goat cheese frittata, and a ravioli with beets. Nice service, complimentary mini muffins. We'll definitely go back for brunch.

Suggestions for food/caterer for BDay party at Oakland zoo

We used La Mediterranee on College for my son's 1st birthday. We had around 50 and it was great to augment with some of their platters. I think we got the Levant sandwiches, chicken Cilicia, and spanikopita. They have a catering menu on the website.

German choc cake in Oakland/Berkeley?

Montclair Baking also has them. I'd order one if you want to make sure they have it. I'm ordering another cake from the bakery for a party but getting a couple German Chocolate cakes from my sister-in-laws' mom. Glad to hear they are still somewhat popular.

Looking for mini red velvet cupcakes in the EB

I'm looking to get some mini red velvet cupcakes or maybe regular size if anyone has a good spot. I'm don't want fancy adult cupcakes - just looking for a large quantity for some kids. I'd be happy with slightly better than grocery store quality but I haven't found anything like that. If I don't find anything, I might just buy a couple RV cakes at Costco. Thanks in advance.

where for lunch in Pleasanton or San Ramon area?

Any oysters shuckers out there for a small private party?

Thanks everyone. I am going to order oysters from Hog Island. I did get quotes from both Hog Island and Bill. I would have gone with Bill if my friend wasn't up for the task. Bill was friendly, prompt, and more affordable. Cheeses will also be prominent on the menu. My friends and I were always looking for restaurants that served oysters and cheese for dessert so that is how I ended up with my CH moniker.

Any oysters shuckers out there for a small private party?

Thanks for the suggestions. A good friend of mine is going to give it a whirl.

Any oysters shuckers out there for a small private party?

I got in touch with Hog Island and their rates are a little high for my budget. I'm wondering if anyone has hired anyone to shuck oysters. This will be for a small party for around 50 people and there will be other stuff to munch and drink. Please let me know. Thanks,

Spanish churros and chocolate

Bocanova in Jack London Square has them on the dessert menu with chocolate not hot as in the beverage but you dip them in the chocolate. They were very tasty.

Looking for Kobe beef and Green Tea Truffles - East Bay preferred

We are doing a Japanese dinner for a school event. We might grill a small portion of Kobe beef. Does anyone have a supplier in the East Bay? Also I've seen Earl Grey truffles but has anyone seen any truffles infused with Green Tea?
Thanks in advance.

$1 oysters

I concur that Waterbar's oysters are indeed tasty and fresh. Our small group had 5 dozen and we really needed the $ special.

$1 oysters

Thanks that is just what I was looking for and Waterbar will likely be our destination.

Looking for a recipe for See's or close to See's peanut brittle

I'm all too familiar with the See's brittle. I just wanted to make something to give away as holiday gifts.

Looking for a recipe for See's or close to See's peanut brittle

I made it according to the recipe and it turned out quite well during the test run. I'll make it again and add more butter and peanuts. It was super easy in the microwave.
