Excellent faux Italian with a South African flair - Primi Urban Cafe on 4th Street near Central. Everything is really tasty and reasonably priced. Easy to get to, easy to park....and the folks that run the joint are very friendly. Try the Pasta Recco w/Chicken or without, mussels in curry sauce, chicken picatta, tuscan steak, okay just about anything.
Check out their menu here - http://www.primiurbancafe.com and Creative Loafing did a review when they first opened. Other than the prices going up a few cents and the furniture being replaced by tables, nothing much has changed.

Mankier - I love it! Never thought I'd see that here but congrats for getting it out there:-)

Cappie,
The Ybor Market is held each Saturday morning. I've never been but I heard that it was mostly nic-naks and not food items. Still sounds fun: http://yborfreshmarket.ypguides.net/
NYT.com did an interesting article a few months back on organizations that deliver organic produce to your door. I was suprised to see that a little farm in Sarasota delivers locally but they also have a farm stand. They are closed until August 15th so this may work for you. Here is their website - it may be worth checking http://jessicasorganicfarm.com/

If you feel like stopping in St. Pete for breakfast, Red Mesa has pretty taste-e food with a southwest flavor. This is the only place in St. Pete where I drink the coffee - Columbian - rich and flavorful. You can search this board for opinions. They open at 9:00 and it's an easy hop off the freeway on your way to Longboat. Their menu is posted on the website to give you an idea http://www.redmesarestaurant.com/welcome.html.
Another diner sort of place just off the freeway (5 mins) is Kissin Cuzzins' (951 34TH St N). Don't let the name scare you...they make a blackstone benedict to die for. My SO loves the hash brown casserole. Don't get the coffee unless you like it weak.
Good luck.

The Wild Oats was bought out by Whole Foods but they haven't changed the sign out front. Same concept but the prices are higher and the some departments (meat/produce) aren't as good as Wild Oats. It's still better then Publix (you can touch the veges) and it's on the way from the airport.
Late night/24 hours in Pinellas county
St. Pete Diner, 1101 34th St N- open 24 hrs.
Nothing fancy, just an old fashioned diner with good food. Eggs, hash browns, omelets, burgers. Yesterday I tried the fried steak sandwich - pretty good.
Dinner close to St. Pete Times Forum
L'Eden at 500 N. Tampa St is .7 miles from the Forum. It's a wonderful little french bistro that serves wonderful crepes, wine and beer I believe. The husband is the chef and the wife runs the front of the house. I've been there many times and love this little gem. Their phone number is (813) 221-4795.
Dirty South Soul Food - St Petersburg
My husband and I ate at Savannah last Monday evening. Pete started with the Corn and Crab Chowder and had the Shrimp & Grits for his main course. I had the vegetable terrine and the fried chicken. This was accompanied by their warm house made breads. We both thought it was one of the best meals we've had here in St. Pete. We've lived in the dining mecas of NY and SF so we're pretty picking when it comes to restaurant food.
We went again last Saturday....the place was packed but they found us a table pretty quickly. This time we shared the Oyster Fritters (very good) for a starter. Pete had Pulled Pork Napolean (good, but not as good as his first dish) and I had a special fish (not good, there was a flavor that was off and ruined the dish). We'll go back again soon (not on a weekend) as it's our plan to eat our way through the menu.
Columbia Restaurant Ybor City FL
Hey Debi,
Just saw this write-up on the Columbia in Creative Loafing. It was done in early this year so it may help you with your selections. If you go, don't forget to let us know what you think. Have fun.

St. Pete Sushi
Wednesday night - they offer nigiri for $1/pc. Can't get every type of fish but I had salmon, tuna and eel last night....very good meal.
Don't get anything with crab. I sat at the sushi bar and it looks like they use the fake stuff.

Andy,
One voice we can always count on. Thanks so much for sharing....off to Homosasa!!
Friday Dinner in SF Chinatown and Sat Breakfast near Union Square
If you're an early bird, I highly recommend Dottie's True Blue for breakfast. I say early because by 8 a.m. there's a line out the door. I've had everything from oatmeal (made while you wait) to their special fritattas. Everything they serve is quite fresh and tasty. Now it's in a dicey neighborhood but early in the morning, I've never had any problem. They are located at 522 Jones St. My husband and I usually sit at the counter so we can chat with the owner. Enjoy
Dessert in St. Pete
I've been to Primi several times - they have become my new neighborhood goto place. They were just voted best new restaurant by a local paper (can’t remember which one but they have the article posted in their window). The warm personalities of the owners and excellent food make this a real nice place to bring friends. Having just moved here from San Francisco and being a recovering food snob, I’m tired of the typical fare I’ve found in St. Pete. At Primi, everything is home made and nothing is fried – a welcomed change. The more you go here, the more it's like being with family.
I've had the curried mussels (to die for) beef salad (very good), fish marsala (excellent), and a special of osso bucco (one of the best my husband ever had). We don't eat deserts so I can't help you with that.
Call Irene (one of the owners)or better yet, stop by (sit at the bar and order the curried mussels w/a nice S. African white) and talk to her about your large party. You won't be sorry to add this place to your 'must dine' list.
Recs for Good Eats in Overland Park Area
Hey everyone, Thanks so much for the great recommendations. As I was busy getting ready for my trip - it got cancelled. So I have made notes of all the wonderful recommendations and will try some of them out when I make it to KC. Thanks again.
Recs for Good Eats in Overland Park Area
I'll be in Overland Park, KS on business and looking for places with good food AND vegetarian options. One of our group just isn't into the whole meat thang. Other than that, we are very open to pretty much anything. We have a car but won't have a lot of time for travel. Thanks in advance.
Satisfying Soup in S.F.?
San Francisco Soup Company has outstanding soup but I think they close at 4:00pm. I too make my own but this place is really good - not the canned stuff here - we're talking house made. Check out their website for locations that may be close to you.
Every soup I've had there has been fantastic. Enjoy.

Who makes the best Carnitas in BayArea?
South San Franciso -
La Perla on Lux. Crispy, lard fried peices of juicy, tasty pork. Heaven!
Best pizza in the Detroit metropolitan area is by far Tomatoes....
I recently went to Silvo's as well - what an incredible pie! I ate there - piping hot, thin crisp crust, beautiful flavored sauce with little bits of tomato, fresh mouth watering cheese...okay, time to go back. They had a fennel pie when I was there - I was too chicken to try it. I'm putting Silvo's on my list of regular favorites. Glad you had a nice experience also.
Local farm for meat/lard
Michael,
Here's a website that features locally grown meats, etc.

looking for great quality, humanely treated, grass-fed meat
Check this article out from yesterday's Chronicle. They have resources at the end of the article. One of the farmers sells his meat at the farmer's market on Saturday. Good luck!
