Relaxing Lunch Spot in Hollywood / LA area?

Another suggestion in case you don't have your mind set, is the Village Idiot on Melrose. Great food and a nice selection of spirits. My friend, who moved to the area, and I have really enjoyed ourselves each time we've went for lunch. White truffle season?

My friends and I shared the white truffle risotto at Via Veneto in Santa Monia this past Saturday. From the two spoonfuls I tasted --the dish was very rich but good --although I'm not sure I could have eaten this as my meal. I am not an expert on truffles though --just know I've liked them in the previous dishes I've tried. The risotto dish at Via Veneto was $100...

Informal poll: Best Mexican in the LA area

Don Antonios (Pico/Bundy area) --they have "taco wednesday's" --the first place I tried a potato taco years ago--and surprisingly loved it. I also like their salsa verde enchilada (the salsa verde is full of flavor) and their chips/salsa. Another good place in Santa Monica on Main Street (more of a take out place but you can sit and eat) is Holy Guacamole .

Nice midtown Lunch with Mom

Leaning towards the "hip" and fun --I've eaten at The Village Idiot" on Melrose a couple of times (one time on Saturday for lunch --and didn't have a problem getting a seat) --and what I've tried (sweet corn soup w/rock shrimp; fish and chips; butter lettuce salad w/walnuts, blue cheese, apples w/a champagne dressing; shrimp fritters) has been excellent. Not your typical "pub" cuisine. The service is great. To view a picture of the inside of the place, go to: http://la.eater.com/archives/2007/01/...

Cantalini's Salerno Beach Restaurant

Has anyone eaten at this restaurant in Playa Del Rey? I drive by it all the time when I go surfing in Manhattan Beach --and I always think that it looks like and interesting/"old school"/kitschy/ place to try --from the outside --but yet, I have not taken the plunge --I noted some previous posts that gave some good reviews --but I guess I'm looking for more...

Terrine de Foie Gras de Canard

When I was at Bouchon in Napa this past summer, my friend and I shared a 5oz french canning jar of fois gras (and yes, we ate the whole jar) accompanied w/french bread, butter and sea salt (and wine of course) --and I must say, when I need to "go to a happy place" --I think of this experience. With this said, does anyone know of a place that one can get something similar?

Looking for a sit down Mexican rest. in East LA???

i've been to ciro's --and really like it --it's very "homey"/"mom&pop" kind of place --there isn't a "bar" but as "carter" noted, there is beer. i love the two "salsas" they have --one has fresh chunks of avocado in it and the other has roasted jalepenos --mixing the two together rocks.

Downtown New Restaurants for Lunch?

I've checked out "Woodspoon" (107th West 9th St -213/629-1765)--based on a review I read. It's a quaint little place --nothing fancy --but I was impressed by the food. The pork sandwhich (like a hamburger but w/pork) w/sautéed cabbage --was amazing --so amazing I had to go back the next day and have it again. My friend had the chicken potpie and loved it --packed w/lots of chicken. The only negative thing is the parking --try to find metered parking --b/c a nearby lot can cost $15.

tasty/casual/hip. dinner downtown

Pete's Cafe has good food/drink. They have decent tapas (which I believe are only available at night). The interior design of the place reminds me of NYC.
