Mislabeled Sushi reported by the LA Times- should not surprise anyone......
The LA Times reports that 87% of samples from 21 restaurants were mis-labeled species of fish:

Good case study of knowing your purveyor and itamae since many sushi bars (especially lower priced sushi restaurants) have thrown away integrity for the almighty dollar. I hope the LA Times comes out with the list of these so called "sushi bars".

Help!!! Need a Restaurant Recommendation near the Congress Theater (Milwaukee and Armitage)
Thanks everyone for the plentitude of responses. Funny about Lillie's Q, I met the owners (Father and Son) at the Memphis in May event this year. They were competing in the shoulder competition and unfortunately I was not there the day they were offering up there shoulder. We did try the redneck nachos which were tortilla chips and deep fried spicy wings....... Delicious. Bill Kim from Urban Belly is opening up a new concept here in LA, and I was hoping to check it out when it opens. What do the chi-town hounds recommend at Lillie's Q or Urban Belly?? Good Karma is bestowed upon you chicago hounds that have helped out here on my thread!!!

Help!!! Need a Restaurant Recommendation near the Congress Theater (Milwaukee and Armitage)
Los Angeles Hound coming into Chicago for a concert this month. I need a solid restaurant to eat at before a concert at the Congress Theater. I heard Smoke is good, but are there any other places nearby that are tasty?
All Help is Appreciated!!!
Best Option for High End Food in Hollywood
Thanks Porthos your knowledge on Pork and Sushi is kinda disturbing. You are a great resource on this board.
Ultimate LA Pork Dish
Thanks Porthos........this is great news. Wanted to always try it but never made my way to Artesia. I had some killer Schweinhaxen in Munich for Oktoberfest last year so I am interested to compare.
Do they serve this with the traditional vinegar and garlic?
Best Option for High End Food in Hollywood
Taking some clients to dinner this week, and want to know what the best option is for food near the Roosevelt Hotel. I thought that Cleo might work or maybe the Dakota, but I have not heard any other ideas others than these. Let me know what you think!
Thanks!!!
Beach Picnic Caterer (Hawaiian/Korean/Filipino/Japanese) on Oahu??
Please help! I am looking to host a beach picnic for about 30 people in Kapiolani Park in Honolulu this fall, and I wanted to do have some nice Hawaiian style barbeque with rice and all the sides. Let me know who would fall in this category, and somebody who enjoys what they do.
Thanks!!

Epicure Imports??
Does anybody know the dates this year for Epicure's public openings? I thought I was on the email distribution list and for some reason I am no longer on it. Please let me know if it is still operating because I need my Albrequina, Comte, and duck rilletes.........
Thanks!!
What are your favorite dives and cheap eats WORTH THE DRIVE?
I think Vito's fresh mozzarella pie is worth the drive within a 60 mile radius.........
can Place Yuu get a little love? (or, can we start explaining "pacing" at the door?)
idwdeville- did you order omakase to get this meal or did you order ala carte? I plan on supporting the business next week, and this is quite sad that said gaijin are ruining the experience. I love the kaiseki cuisine at Kiyokawa so i am interested to see how Yuu compares.
Porchetta (Porketta) in LA area?
I am assuming you are looking for it cooked? I would try Mozza2Go as I know they serve sandwiches with it..... Eataly in NYC has the best, much better than Porchetta the restaurant.
Recommended Christmas Lunch or Dinner in Orange County
Thanks, I appreciate this. Looks like the Montage is offering $95 for their buffet and the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel buffet is $110. Obviously these buffets are top notch, and I wanted to see what other upscale buffet options might be out there at a restaurant instead of a hotel.
Recommended Christmas Lunch or Dinner in Orange County
Have not seen a recent post for a recommendation for Christmas Day Lunch or Dinner, and wanted to know what are the options. My family lives in Irvine and Lake Forest and wanted to know what might be good ideas for a buffet, Asian food, or American traditional Christmas fare (roast beef, turkey, ham). Any input would be appreciated!!

Streetgourmetla.... or? Anyone been to that UMAMI BURGER-adjacent taco bar?
I find that Candela on Wednesday is probably one of the best deals in the area. The chile colorado and tacos al pastor have always been solidly above average and I always order about 4-5 tacos. My only gripe with a Wednesday is that because of the tile flooring the place is shockingly loud. To the point where I really feel like I am shouting at the top of my lungs........ I believe the restaurant is related to the club next door that features Salsa and Ranchera music next door and leads to the authenticity factor....... A real find, and a great meet up spot.
Better Sports Bar Food Downtown?? Big Wangs or Dublin's or ???
yup..... its new.....
Better Sports Bar Food Downtown?? Big Wangs or Dublin's or ???
Ha..... Wangs sounds nasty by your account. Is this Dublins the same as the old Dublins on Sunset?
Better Sports Bar Food Downtown?? Big Wangs or Dublin's or ???
We are celebrating a friend's birthday on Saturday and expect to watch the UCLA/USC/etc. games....... we were thinking Big Wangs or Dublin's but have not been to either..... we like burgers, wings, solid sports bar food. Any recommendations on what we should do? in LA Live and etc.
FYI- We are not fans of the Yard House.... horrible wings, and not so great burgers....

Pete's Pierside Cafe- Avila Beach- Hands Down Best Place to Pick and Eat LIVE Dungeness Crabs
Alright, I have to admit, that I cannot say that I have been to that many seafood type of operations along the California coast but Pete's is a hidden gem. My fiance and I decided to take a "hike" or walk along the beachfront of Avila beach and headed to the pier of Port San Luis.......that "hike" turned into lunch for me as we meandered along the pier to see all of the seafood mongers that worked on the pier. The seafood is so fresh on the pier that I found it truly amazing watching the fisherman load up their catch and have the fish processors go to work on the catch almost immediately. We came across Pete's as we saw a huge tank in the back of the restaurant in which they boil whole live dungeness crab..... and the best part is that you choose the crabs LIVE from the tank. There must have been easily over a hundred crabs in the tank, and I picked up 2 of the wiliest crabs in the tank. 15 minutes later on a newspaper spread and a wooden mallet in my hand I started to work on the succulent pieces of meat. I am glad I was in workout clothes as crab shrapnel went flying all over the pier. (I guess I need to work on my technique). They did not serve the crab with butter or lemon, which I was surprised with but it was not even necessary as the crab did not have to be adulterated. The crab meat was sublime. The best part is that the crab is $4 a pound and for 2 crabs at a pound each cost me $8. Unbelievable...... I hope these guys serve year round because I need to come back more often. Pete's is NOT a sit down restaurant with service but a cafeteria style operation akin to lobster pounds and such in Maine. I did not have the fish tacos but they looked really good, not the deep fried types but fresh ahi tacos on corn tortillas. People simply dressed the tacos with fresh salsa from the counter and cilantro and onion. Cant wait to go back!!

Los Agaves (Santa Barbara)
I ate there yesterday as LSR was too packed and I did not want to wait in-line. Los Agaves is a gem of a restaurant, cafeteria style and packed with locals coming to eat their food. There special yesterday was chile en Nogada which is probably my favorite Mexican dish. It was sublime, ground meat, apples, hint of cinnamon, all wrapped in a perfectly cooked poblano pepper topped with walnut sauce, and pomegranate seeds. Blew me away. People waiting in line asked me what I was eating and I just pointed at the board. Had a carnitas taco on the side, soft porky and flavorful........i was in pure mexican bliss. As much as I like Super Rica, I think this may be my new food spot when I visit Santa Barbara as it is not to be missed.

Decent Lunch Spot Between Pismo Beach and San Simeon, and wineries in between?
Cool, any wineries in particular that you recommend on Peachy Canyon Road?
Decent Lunch Spot Between Pismo Beach and San Simeon, and wineries in between?
All- I am travelling up to Pismo this weekend and wanted to know what are the lunch spots worthy of stop between Pismo and San Simeon. Initially we were thinking about stopping in Cambria at Linn's for some salad and a slice of Ollalieberry pie but wanted to know other options. Also, we wanted to do a wine tasting after our tour at Hearst Castle, we want to know if there was anything houndish worthy of stopping off at if convenient.
Thanks In Advance!!

Suggestions for Inexpensive Wedding Location with Fantastic Caterer/Food Service
Hi All-
I plan to get married in Oahu next year around this time, and wanted to know what locations are recommended for a nice Hawaiian style wedding? We were thinking about Lanikuhonua near Ko Olina and maybe locations near Hawaii Kai. The wedding will host a total of about 100 people, and we require excellent food, we are hoping for a caterer that specializes in local food such as short ribs, fish, and shrimp. Please let me know what suggestions you have!!
Thanks!

Business Lunch near 27th and Broadway?
LA Hound coming into town for a lunch meeting near 27th and Broadway, I was thinking about Eleven Madison Park (maybe too stuffy), Tabla, or Craftbar. Are there any suggestions from people who live/work near the area? I am looking for a nice spot to conduct some business, relatively quiet, and quality food.
Thanks In Advance!
