WEIGHT WATCHERS FOODIES: WHAT ARE YOU COOKING? PART 5
The polenta was evenly distributed throughout the soup. I know what you're asking...it made it "rustic", the best I can explain it. It really is yummy
WEIGHT WATCHERS FOODIES: WHAT ARE YOU COOKING? PART 5
It doesn't have many points at all. I used less than 1/3 cup of polenta. The stock was homemade with fat skimmed. Mostly veggies with the exception of the fat free turkey italian sausage. I had a big bowl and counted it as 7-8 points which was on the high side I think.

We added the Turkey Sausage and chopped baby spinach and it was wonderful. we used home made stock but skimmed the fat. The polenta makes this dish!
WEIGHT WATCHERS FOODIES: WHAT ARE YOU COOKING? PART 5
Tonight we made Rustic Vegetable soup with Polenta. It is a recipe from Giada DeLaurentis. I added spinach and fat free Italian Turkey Sausage. The polenta thickened it and made it so creamy. It was fabulous!
Tina Molina....best scones in Fresno county...where is she?
Anyone know what became of Tina Molina? She ran a cookie shop in various locations of Clovis and Fresno. She made the best cranberry scones that were sold at Costco. I think high rents forced her out of several locations. I hope she didn't stop baking. She made fabulous cookies!
Looking for a good but reasonable caterer in Santa Rosa
Thank you Jwest. I am going to look into each suggestion. Appreciate that.
Looking for a good but reasonable caterer in Santa Rosa
Thank you. Everything seems to be less expensive in Marin county. I just wonder if they will have to raise their prices to go to Healdsburg. Thank you for the suggestion. I will check Ann Walker.
Looking for a good but reasonable caterer in Santa Rosa
Thank you Melanie. I have used the map on the right. Right now I'm in a state of shock and worried that we won't find someone good in our price range. I feel like even though I am spending $20,000...it's still not enough. Our venue is great...which we've booked from 4-9 for ceremony and reception. They are completely reasonable and charge by the hour. We have contacted both their suggestions and have yet to hear back. The venue is Trione Vineyards. All of a sudden I feel poor. I guess wedding is big business in Sonoma county. One of the caterers told me during the telephone consult that he couldn't afford to get married up there. Ironic. In the mean time, I'll keep looking. Thank you again.

Girl and the Fig is $150 per person. Way too much
Looking for a good but reasonable caterer in Santa Rosa
Thank you! I've been reading reviews on yelp and will definitely contact Trend. I appreciate your taking the time to read and suggest!
Looking for a good but reasonable caterer in Santa Rosa
So far I've heard from The Girl and the Fig. They are $150 per person. I don't know how people afford to get married in Sonoma County. We are two working parents paying for our daughters college education in full....and she lives on campus since we are in Clovis. I thought I would be able to put on this wedding for $20,000. It sure doesn't buy much up there :( Sad.

Thank you! I have been in contact with The Girl and the Fig. Our wedding is June 9, 2012. Will look up the others!
Looking for a good but reasonable caterer in Santa Rosa
Hi! I am the mother of the bride trying to plan my daughters wedding in Sonoma County from Central California.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a reasonably priced but good caterer in Santa Rosa? Trying to get someone to actually call me back and send a proposal has been difficult for some reason. I have no idea what to expect price wise per person. I don't know how people afford to get married these days! Any help would be appreciated!
Cooking with Laughing Cow Cheese
I stir it into risotto towards the end. I know...it will upset some of the risotto purists...but it's not bad!
Down with the mashed. Up with the galette. Heresy or a welcome revolution?
That's the thing I eat the least of. My grandmother made the best Thanksgiving dinner. Our favorite was her rich turkey gravy over rice. We are a Japanese American family and ate rice every meal. Some people think it's odd to have gravy over rice...but it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it. She also made a fabulous Sausage stuffing that I copy but can never quite get exactly right...even after all these years. Potatoes....they're okay. I cook em and they're a hassle, but everyone else loves them. If someone knows a fool proof make ahead method...I'd love to hear all about it. I use a ricer, and do it last.
Goose Basics
Thank you. So sad...but so fortunate. I wrote on his facebook page he was like Sensei and Yoda all rolled into one. That's how I pictured him when he would respond to one of my questions. I'm so sorry for his family and their loss. But boy...did he leave a mark here! I'll miss him!
Goose Basics
c oliver.....I just saw a post you did about chicken stock and Sam Fujisaka back in July. I was stunned to see that he had passed away. I had no idea. My attendance here has been spotty lately. How did you find out? I live in the town where here lived during years of his youth. I never met him...only through here. I'm so sad. He was like Yoda of rice.
Looking for good dim sum, pizza, take out, bakery and grocery store near Grandview Park, Golden Gate Heights area
Thank you for the great suggestions! We are looking forward to it!
Planning a trip, looking for suggestions: california cuisine, dim sum, lunch
I enjoy the Boulevard each time we go. Make sure you make a reservation as walking in can be problematic. I believe Open Table handles their reservations. I wouldn't wear jeans. Business casual maybe, but that's just me.
Looking for good dim sum, pizza, take out, bakery and grocery store near Grandview Park, Golden Gate Heights area
We will be staying near Grandview Park for 6 days next week. Since we will be vacationing with our dog we need take-out/delivery friendly food suggestions for the area.
On our wish list:
Great pizza for delivery if possible. If not, we can drive!
Dim Sum that we can take out...avoiding Chinatown.
A good grocery store in the area with fresh crab and shrimp.
A good bakery to get pastries and bread.
I know "good" is wide open to taste and interpretation, but suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Fresno/Clovis Dining
Thank you for your reply! You are right about the economic situation. I do support hole in the wall places as I'm sure they feel the pain on their level. I wonder about fine dining. It seems like if one was to cut back on going out to eat...the thinking may be to go cheaper. I can totally understand that. I think it's the whole..."yes...you've been here...we remember you" type of atmosphere along with the stellar food that draws up back to the CPB. I will definitely put Trelio on my must try list.
I love food!

Fresno/Clovis Dining
My husband and I just celebrated our 26th with a lovely dinner at the Cracked Pepper Bistro. It seems to have become our go to restaurant. We adore the food, the atmosphere and the staff . The dinner was quite lovely as was the dining experience. We know that when we dine there, we won't be disappointed.
We discussed, on the way home, the fact that while this was indeed our favorite place, perhaps we should venture out of our comfort zone and try other places. We've been faithful to the CPB since it's opening. I know that there must be other places that could provide us with a lovely experience. While I wouldn't consider dining at the Cracked Pepper Bistro to be stuck in a rut...I was thinking we should be supportive of other fine dining establishments. We live in Clovis and pass by Trelio all the time. I'm embarassed to say we haven't dined there in years. I think the last place we dined at on a consistent basis was Echo...back in the old days of the Tower.
I'm curious to find out how other Fresno Foodies dine. Do you stick with one place or patronize several? Just curious!

Awful meal in Susanville
My husband and I traveled to Susanville for business. Quite a lovely but remote part of California. I searched CH to find some dining possibilities. So many places listed to stay away from! There were mixed reviews on the Sage Hen. Someone had posted in 2007 that it was an awful place. In 2010, someone replied to that post saying they ate there all the time and it was fabulous.
I rarely ever speak up to say something is awful. I guess I prefer to leave something positive, but I was just compelled me to return and speak up. The entire dining experience, not just the food, was poor. It was awful service. We were told that it was Basque night and that our server would tell us the specials. We waited for 30 minutes with just water. When the server came over, she stood there with her pencil to her pad looking at my husband like..."Well, give it to me" She didn't say a word.. When he asked her about the specials, it was as if it was a burden to go find out what they were. He ended up having Shrimp and seafood pasta and I had roasted chicken. Both entrees were very poorly made. The sauce on my chicken tasted like it was from a packet mix and my husbands pasta was terribly fishy. I couldn't help but think of Gordon Ramsey and how he critiques entrees on Kitchen Nightmares. I could not recommend this restaurant to anyone! We should have gone to the Black Bear Diner.

What are your favorite recipes for a rice cooker? - moved from California board
I'm so interested to see what people post. I guess I'm old school. I have my great grandmother's rice cooker. It's missing a foot and has to be propped up. I like to say it's got all her "good juju". It never makes a bad batch of rice. But that's all I make in it. I'm a purist I guess. Looking forward to what Sam Fujisaki has to say!
Unfortunate foreign food names or brands
In San Francisco there's a walk away dim sum place called "Good Mong Kok". We could barely keep a straight face in there.
tips for getting started with fried rice
Sam, my grandma made the best fried rice. It was total comfort food. I make it today and it's comfort food for my kids. Her started with bacon, then weenies, cold cold leftover rice. Crack an egg or two on top and stir in. Salt and pepper. I've been eating it as long as I can remember. I often wonder if this recipe was borne out of their time in the camps when they cooked with what they had. I never asked her...and she's gone now. My grandmother made the best homestyle Japanese food. I try and try but will never be able to duplicate her specialties. She may not have been able to make risotto...but no one could touch her inari!
Looking for great Naan and a nice dining choice
Hi SF chowfriends. We're visiting again this weekend. No idea where we'll be eating dinner. We try to have one nice meal during the weekends. Looking at the restaurant list is overwhelming sometimes. Last romantic trip to your wonderful city, we ate at Luella. It was nice. Can't seem to make a choice this time but open to suggestions.
Friday night, we'd like to have great naan and some great Indian food. I'm not so concerned about fancy fancy atmosphere....just great food.
Saturday night, we need to choose. I just can't seem to concentrate this time...for some reason. We're staying near the Ferry Building but would be open to a cab ride. Luella was nice. We like the Blvd...course there's no chance to get a reservation there. Anyone have any suggestions to offer. We don't drink so a great wine selection is not necessary. I don't think we're looking for dressy. Maybe business casual. Around or under $100 would be preferable. Anyone have any thoughts on One Market Restaurant or Perbacco? I always look a those but have never been.
Thanks so much!
Shortbread cookies at the Farmer's Market
I'll be there next weekend. Do you want me to find out if they ship?
