Care to share an MSG free recipe?

My sincerest sympathies. For what it's worth I've learned that anything with more than five ingredients (soups, instant foods) fake cheese (cheezits/Doritos) or from a fast food joint has MSG (except Chipotle.). Not exactly but close enough. Watch out for chicken because often I've found it is injected with msg even a pkg of ground beef at the blue big box store had msg in the ingredient list!) Stay away from Accent.

I make a lot of beans and rice from scratch, and I make my own seasoning blends (look on Pinterest) that are very tasty. Beware dressings and marinades. We've learned to bake from scratch, purchase meat that has no preservatives and chicken broth without added msg. Whole, real foods are your best friend. (Unless your lucky like me and your body has a cross pollen reaction. When hayfever is bad I can't eat apples, oranges, bananas, pears etc. and cantaloupe during that time sends me into Anaphylaxis. Yeah!).

Best of luck!

What exactly are Chili Beans?

I found a recipe for Taco soup that calls for Chili Beans. The can I found at the grocery store has chemicals I am not allowed to eat. Can I make homemade Chili Beans with my own beans and seasonings? I have dried pinto, kidney and black beans on hand and tons of seasonings. Hope ya'll are having a great day!

You know, not quite sure but my doctor has completely nixed mushrooms but tomatoes are ok. Aside from seaweed, kombu, umami I hadnt thought of produce having MSG. Thx for that - Im gonna go check that out.

Care to share an MSG free recipe?

Hi Maxie, my family loves Italian and Mexican. We do grill quite a bit and we are learning how to bake. Almost anything in a box has become a no-no. :( However, on the bright side I am finding that the stuff I am cooking seems to taste so much better than that boxed stuff. Not quite sure if this is just my pride getting the better of me or not. Thx for your help.

Thanks for the advice, my neurologist suggested the same things, especially hard sausages and red wine. If only there were such a thing as fresh parmesan cheese. lol.

Care to share an MSG free recipe?

This is a repost from the Home Cooking boards since someone kindly directed me to this board. :)

I have recently found out that i cannot eat anything with MSG, tyramine or aspartame due to Chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania (a type of cluster headeache.) I have almost always cooked everything out of boxes and cans and rarely if ever made fresh food so I am somewhat at a loss, especially when I found out there are 40 different ways to label MSG approved by the FDA. :(

Would anyone be willing to share MSG free recipes they might have? I'm new to Chow so not quite sure if I need to include my email address here or if ya'll can put the recipes in replies. Hope ya'll are havinga great day! Christina

Thanks for the info sparrowgrass! I got brave yesterday and went to Sprouts (a 20 min drive) to get a whole bunch of organic veggies and then spent an hour reading labels on all kinds of things to make sure there were no natural flavors, etc. I loved the bulk section and got kidney, black, pinto and white beans plus brown, white and jasmine rice. My family tends to like Italian and Mexican so I am going to try to findgood cookbooks for these. :)

New Mom Having Dinner Guests

I would make a big batch of baked ziti, cooking extra pasta for the youngsters to have Alfredo. Add a salad & French bread. Have fun!
