Xi'an Famous Foods Opening More Upscale Sit Down Branch on Main St. Flushing

I was approaching this from a different direction by adding the cumin to the chili oil for flavoring the lamb. I think your way is much better. Thanks!

thai flat rice noodles

I've been looking for these as well...
I was going to try Bangkok Center Grocers 104 Mosco street or Udom Grocery at 81Bayard but I haven't a chance yet. Let me know if you have any success there.

Good Restaurant to hold a meetup

Foodwhisperer, thanks for the suggestion. Chinatown is easily accessible to about everyone and most of the restaurants there seem to have pretty extensive menus. I'll have to head over there this weekend and scout out a couple of places. Thanks for pointing me in a direction that should have been obvious to me, but wasn't.

Anyone have a clue about their recipe for their cumin lamb noodles, I believe the number is D5. I love these and am trying to replicate them at home. The noodles and lamb are the easy part. What I'm wondering is what they're coated in besides chilli sesame oil and cumin. I love these things, but hate making the trip when they seem to be made from pretty simple ingredients.I'm close but no cigar...

Hungarian Meat Markets?

Here in Astoria in addition to Muncan's we also have Euro Market, which carries a wide variety of Balkan smoked meats and sausages such as soujouk as well as Greek and gourmet specialty items. Their smoked bacon is amazing.

Good Restaurant to hold a meetup

Fellow Chow Hounds,
Hopefully some of you can help me out here.
I run a meetup group (for those of you who don't know, meetup.com is place where people with the same interests get together to socialize) and I'm looking for $ to $$ restaurants and am looking for new places for my group to meet. We generally meet once a month on a Saturday at 1pm and my meetups generally have 10 to 20 people. So, any restaurant will have to be able to accommodate this many with appropriate notice of course. I'm not looking for any cuisine in particular, but I'm looking for a restaurant that is convenient to Manhattan and Brooklyn. So far we've been meeting in Midtown East. The ideal restaurant would offer my members a wide range of dining options.
For example, the restaurant we've been meeting for the last few has been perfect for us. It's an Italian Restaurant that serves everything from slices to entrees and also has a full bar. This way everyone can eat and what they want from a cheap lunch (a slice or two) to an entree and a couple of glasses of wine. I'm having trouble finding replacement that meets this criteria. I've come across a lot inexpensive and a lot of moderate restaurants, but few that span both ranges. After the experience we had with the owner today, continuing to patronize this restaurant is not an option for us.
As a long time lurker, I look forward to seeing what creative options my fellow Chow Hounds will come up with.

Best Cubano in Brooklyn or Queens?

In Astoria/LIC, there is a great Cuban deli/bodega around 35th Avenue under the N/W el.--El Sitio de Astoria. Geat take-away Cuban food at a very reasonable price.

Is there anything good to eat in Jamaica Center?

Hey,
While not "haute cuisine", there are a lot of great places to pick a quick lunchtime snack of Jamaican meat patties (several varieties are available) in the area.
In my opinion, the best can be found at A Taste of Jamaica on the Corner of Jamaica Ave. and 164th Street, but the several Golden Crust Bakeries in the area are almost as good. The closest to you would be at 169th and Hillside. Golden Crust also serves up several Jamaican dishes.
There are also several little Carribean and Latin American Restaurants on Hillside in the area. In my opinion, Jamaica Avenue, as a commercial district, caters to the lowest common denominator--fast food and bad pizza places. Explore Hillside Avenue to find a gem or two.
Is just me, or is it ironic that so many Jamaicans live in Jamaica, Queens.?
