Fresh organic corn tortillas in the East Bay?

Thanks. I'll check out Primavera at the farmers markets. It may not matter if they're thinner and stiffer, although I prefer them thin. My young kids eat them with spreads and don't wrap them around anything so I'm not too worried about it.

I've never made my own but I'll look into it. It sounds like a good idea but I make everything else from scratch so I was happy to find something just like homemade, especially at for $1.35 for 60 tortillas!

Fresh organic corn tortillas in the East Bay?

I've been buying small fresh La Finca corn tortillas in Fruitvale. Does anyone know of a store where I can buy similar tortillas but made with organic non-GMO corn? I buy a lot of them and would prefer a store over a restaurant unless the restaurant sells stacks of 40-60. Thanks.

Where do you find nutritional yeast?

Having done a lot of research into the nutritional aspects of different brands, plus a million taste tests, I recommend Lewis Labs brand. I also recommend it to a lot of people in my line of work and they seem to prefer it as well. I know they sell it at Alameda Natural Grocery but it's probably at Berkeley Bowl as well. Not sure about WF. It's usually in the supplements section of a retail store.

FYI, there's a raw vegan "cashew cheese" sold at the WF in Oakland. It's a soft creamy product, not a hard cheese.

Crab feed urgency!

In Alameda JP Seafood supplies the crab for a lot of crab feeds. Most of them already happened this year, but if I were you I would call them and ask if they're supplying any more this year. They are super friendly and will be happy to help if they can.

Do you travel over 10 miles to shop at Berkeley Bowl?

Re: entitlement,I think it exists. And rumors of it even made their way to the LA Times in September:

(I love the part about Michael Pollan buying Fruity Pebbles at the Bowl.)

Where to watch the election results?

Called Brennan's and they said they were going to have it on 1 TV, no volume.

Where to watch the election results?

Yeah, we'd thought of the Parkway but it's 18 and over at both theatres, even for Election Night, even though it happens to be Tuesday. forgot to mention that in my original post.

Where to watch the election results?

We're looking for a good place to watch election results. We have a small TV, no cable, and would like to be out with other people instead of home alone. We could get a sitter for the kids but our time might be up before we see what we want to see, plus we want the older one to remember a bit of this (hopefully) historic event, not to be home in bed.

We live in Alameda but are willing to go to Oakland/Berkeley. The deal is we'll have 2 kids with us (a well-behaved young child and an easy baby) so the closer to home the better.

Issues are where can we sit for a few hours and watch coverage on a good-sized screen, that won't mind kids, for an unspecified length of time (as long as we keep eating and drinking)? Cost is less of an issue.

Ideas? Anyplace doing election night parties where it looks like kids would be welcome? Thanks.

Slush Puppies

Just thought I'd update that the gas station is boarded up and appears to be undergoing renovation. I didn't get a chance to go there before the construction. I'll drop by when it re-opens. If they are modernizing it chances are the Slush Puppie machine will be gone. They are slowly disappearing in the area, hence my search.

Candyfreak - where to find obscure candy bars?

It's called Tiny's. I've never been inside so I can't say how well it fits the bill, though.

Slush Puppies

Does anyone know where to get Slush Puppies in the Bay area? I used to get them at Fred's Food Mart (now Happy's Food Mart) in Sunnyvale until a couple of years ago. More recently I was getting them at a liquor store on Lincoln Avenue in Alameda. In both cases the machine broke down and the owner decided not to repair it because the cost was prohibitively expensive and the machine would have to go to Ohio.

Any ideas? Icees and their ilk are much drier and won't cut it. I've been doing without, thinking I'll forget about 'em, but the pup won't let me go. I imagine the little turning cup on top of the machine. Btw, they also make Thelma's Lemonade. Not my favorite flavor, but the texture's the same so it'll do in a pinch.

East bay would be great, but I get around a lot so if I know other locations I can plan to swing by when I'm in the neighborhood. Thanks!
