Take the USDA as a guideline not a rule.
They've been growing lemons on Vancouver Island for years.

Might be the 'Best Tasting' Dark Chocolate Ice cream out there??!!

Chocaholic,
check the ingredients list on the Magnum bars. You might be surprised at what you find. Magnum uses colouring and fillers.

Day Drinking in Toronto. You know you're out there.

Justxpete, the Wide Open is not open during the day.. I believe they only open early (around 6ish) on Thursdays.
To the OP. I do a lot of day drinking (work nights) and I would stick to places with patios on the Friday.. People linger on patios so you won't be the only customers..

Pre show dinner Horseshoe

Less than 10 min walk to the Horseshoe is Jacob and Company, or Marben.
Both have great bar spaces to eat at.
You can always try Buca as a walk in, they usually have unreserved seats in the bar area.

Estufarian, I was at the Ritz today and they confirmed that TOCA is not open for Sunday dinner.
Perhaps Open Table does not always have current info..

Lee Lounge - Any initial comments?

They definately had a seperate menu last Saturday. I saw a few items being served that are not on the regular Lee menu. The couple beside me at the bar ordered Hamburger Spring Rolls and Hunan Chicken Wings. I'll pop in again tonight and update the menu info.

Davedigger. I just bought striploin at the Etobicoke Costco and they are labelled USDA choice.
I haven't seen Porterhouse cuts at Costco either.

Scarpetta at the Thompson Hotel

EarlyDrive, was that at Scarpetta in New York or Toronto?
As of yesterday they are still not serving food at the bar in Toronto. The bar in Toronto is not inside the restaurant, but in the hotel lobby.
Hotel staff could not tell me when food will be availaible at the lobby bar.

The Counter?

I've been twice (live in the building). The food is typical up-scale diner fare. Burgers, BLT, mac and chesse etc. Burger and fries are $12. Burger is a good size but a touch on the dry side. They are open 24 hours to provide room service food to the hotel guests..
I'll report back when I try more menu items.

Shopping trip to Etobicoke suggestions

I disagree with Kagemusha on skipping Pasquale Bros. There are always some great items (prices). Their 7 year old cheddar at $25/kilo is hard to beat. Ask to go in the back which is the warehouse, they have at least 40 types of olives alone. However they are not open on Saturday.

Is there a bigger and better patio bar than The Madison?

Duckdown, biggest patio in TO is the old Docks. Now renamed Polson Pier, not a great place for food but it will be packed with a couple thousand people on a weekend..

SFF (Single Female Foodie) Seeks Some Ideas for Solo Toronto Weekend

Great that your staying at the new Thompson Hotel, I live in the hotel (above the 11th floor is residences). Have to disagree with the Chowhounders about Niagara Street Cafe, the food is great but it is not condusive to solo dining. Try Buca, one block from the hotel and sit at the wine bar. Unfortunately they have no website but the food is casual fine Italian dining (trendy space) with a good wine list. I also second Canoe for lunch on Friday, one of the best places in the city to spend a Friday afternoon. IMO

Desperately seeking restaurant in Toronto's entertainment district

The Fifth and Ame are not open on a Sunday. Just tried Paese for lunch today and the food was fine. Romantic, under $100, Sunday and close to King/Simcoe is a difficult request. How far would you be willing to walk?
