Nicaro in Silver Spring, big disappointment!

Went to Nicaro last weekend hoping to find a local gem as I've recently moved from DC to MD. Wow we were really disappointed. Shared sardine appetizer that was pretty good, for entree had the veal which, while the flavors were pretty good, tasted like second-rate meat. And also had the crab cake, which was awful. I adore crab cakes (and am not horribly picky) and I could not bring myself to finish it. It looked like a softball, was all breading with only a hint of crab. Perhaps my asking for more tartar sauce and lemon wasn't clue enough, but at the end our waitress asked how everything was and i had to say something. I rarely, rarely say anything but that dish should not be on the menu and I felt compelled.

For dessert we shared chocolate bread pudding, which was a good dish in theory but tasted as if it had sat around for a while.

So disappointed... still looking for good local spots. Next time we'll try Jackie's.

caterer for birthday party?

i'm co hosting a 15-person birthday dinner saturday after thanksgiving and anticipate being wiped out from thanksgiving cooking. anyone know a great and inexpensive caterer in DC/maryland area who might do a few side dishes and a birthday cake? I'm doing the entree.

thanks!

Rasika?

i love Rasika. The crispy spinach appetizer (palak chaat?) is something i dream about often.

iso brunch and restaurant delivery in silver spring/takoma park

just moved to Takoma Park and looking for:

a. good kid-friendly weekend brunch options (and open early am) in Silver Spring (I know the Takoma Park options). I've been to Eggspectations one too many times now.

b. good options for food delivery to Takoma Park. any kind of food.

thanks for any advice!

and a block from my office... god idea. thanks!

Anyone been to Comet Ping Pong?

i love Comet (don't hold it against me). i think the pizza's great, as is the ping pong. the minestrone is out of this world. yes it's on the expensive side, but 2 amy's and pizza paradiso aren't cheap either.

DC Area Sushi with Genuine Wasabi?

sushi taro used to have it about 75% of the time, when i was going regularly. it's terrific stuff -- hard to go back to fake after.

Need 3 great DC dinners

my 2 cents: obelisk, komi, hook, front room at palena. minibar for a truly fun experience if you can get in. i personally would skip dc coast if i had only 3 nights, and my one dinner at dino was truly disappointing (though it was a long time age).

thought about Lia's but seems more restaurant than bar. but i've only been for brunch. is there a good-sized bar area that doesn't get crowded?

thanks! just made a reservation! happy for other suggestions too as this will be a regular gathering. forgot to mention too that it has to be walking distance from the red line... thanks for the help.

need quiet bar for 20 people in NW or Bethesda

I'm organizing a professional happy hour for 20 people in the next month, looking for a spot in Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, Friendship Heights or Bethesda that's quiet enough on a weekday evening to chat, mainly for drinks but with tapas or appetizers to choose from. Private room at a restaurant won't do because we won't all be eating.

thanks!
