Looking for any unturned stones in or near Gurnee
I have to also sing the praises of Johnny's, went there last week for the first time due to abf005's endorsement, was there again last night for take-out. It is absolutly the best steak in Lake County, and one of the best I've had in my 2 years in Chicagoland, not really impressed with the sides and the soups are just ok, BUT who cares 'cause the steak's are perfect! One question for angopal13, are the ribs worth not getting a steak for?
Best bets around Abbott Labs (Libertyville/North Chicago)
Don't go North, there is nothing there, I live in Gurnee and there is nothing there but chains! The thread you mention does pick out the very few that are acceptable, abf005 does know good food.
South is a way better option
Or go West to Libertyville which also has some good places, try The Tavern, Firkin, and Trattoria Pomigliano all are very good. The Tavern and Firkin share a kitchen, with The Tavern being the "upscale" location.
Trattoria Pomigliano has some of the best homemade Italian I have had, not at all upscale, but good food and a good price.
Need an interesting restaurant in Arlington Hts area for Sat. night
I would second Le Titi de Paris, very good
If you are interested in Sushi Wildfish is some of the best I'ver ever had www.wildfishsushi.com

Empanada was good, similar to my wife's grandmothers. Some of the best take-out I've had in a long time, burger was big and juicy, chilli cheese fries were way too big to finish(but real good), did not have the Skirt Steak, but I will next time.

I am sometimes by Lake-Cook, and am desperate for decent Chinese, It is my impression that consensus would be to go to Golden Chef? I'm going to try Scotts Dogs tonight, hope the empanada's live up to the hype!

Glad I found this thread, new to Midwest and my wife and I can't stand the lack of good food in Gurnee, Thanks for all the recomendations. As for phillysbest is it the real deal? Being from Philly the lack of a cheesesteak is driving me mad, an if it is all like any from home I would drive the hour to get it, but don't want to waste my time. As for couple's sit-down I would have to say that Cafe Pyrenees in the best so far. The Tavern impressed the first time, then when we returned with friends, not so much. Thanks for the Chinese food updates also, I agree everything here is really bad, and guess I'll just give-up, so sad 'cause in Philly there were good cheesesteaks and Chinese in every neighborhood
