work outing: bar recommendation for group of 20, in/near midtown?

Hi CH-

I'm arranging an outing for my work group:
- 20 people
- leaving office in midtown (5th ave + 53rd)
- food and drink
- a Wednesday night

Any recommendations?

I checked out Bierhaus and it was too crowded/noisy. Some people are recommending the new, big bars on 9th ave, but I'm hoping to avoid a long walk or taking the train.

Thanks for your help!

Korean BBQ for large group, in K-town? (Other than Kum Gang San)

Where would you recommend a group of 10 go for Korean BBQ in K-town? My only contender is Kum Gang San, which I'm very familiar with but would like to try something new. Extra credit: large banchan variety, not super expensive.

Thanks for your help!

Need a rec: Port Authority, week-day, breakfast

Hi CH- I'm meeting my sister for breakfast tomorrow, near the Port Authority. Can you recommend a place?

I recognize this is a tough one... do any of the diners stand out?

Thanks for your help!

Around the Clock 24 Hour Restaurant: news?

thank you! that explains why half of it looks done and half still in construction

Around the Clock 24 Hour Restaurant: news?

Hey CH-

This diner (8 Stuyvesant St , at 3rd Avenue) was a favorite of my coworkers. It has been closed since May. Do any of you know what is going on? Is it re-opening, or is it going to be something new?

Thanks for your help-

Affordable, decent Indian?

Affordable, decent Indian?

Hello Chowhound-

My parents are visiting this weekend and my mom has requested Indian for dinner. To my knowledge, Indian food in Manhattan is broken down into two groups of restaurants: inexpensive and grubby (6th street) vs. expensive and posh (Tabla Bread Bar, Utsav). I'm trying to find a place in between. (I'm going to be paying for dinner for 12 and want to keep it reasonable.)

This will be an early post-show dinner in Manhattan from Times Square to anywhere on the way back to Brooklyn).

Authentic Tom Yung Goong?

Thanks for the tips! I will have to write that down and see if I can get it :-)

Authentic Tom Yung Goong?

Where can I find a good bowl of Tom Yung Goong? In particular I'm looking for a place that uses coconut milk, and I do know the difference between Tom Yung and Tom Kha. I had this amazing bowl of Tom Yung Goong in Bangkok years ago, and, since then, I can't stomach the clear, super-sharp versions I find here in the city. I want something that looks like this: http://thai4real.blogspot.com/2008/12/authentic-thai-soup.html

Chinese-style Shrimp & Scrambled Eggs

A place in midtown has just what you are describing: big fluffy eggs w/ large shrimp on rice.

Make sure you go to the back, past the buffet to order it. Big serving for the price, too.

Moksha: out of business?

A friend recommended Moksha (18 Murray St, downtown) but the two numbers I've found online aren't working. Does anyone know if it has closed?

Thanks!

Spicy Indian?

Hi CH- two of my Indian coworkers have been complaining about the lack of spicy food here in the city. Can you recommend an Indian restaurant (in Manhattan) that really brings the heat?

Thanks for your help!

Group dinner + drinks near Astor Place?

Hi Chowhound!

My goal: take my work group (14 people) out for food + drinks near Astor Place. I'd love to find a place like Loreley. My only recommendation so far is The Smith. I don't know if the boss is paying, so lower budget is better, and we'll be going around 7:00 on a Thursday.

Thanks for your time!

Lunch near Rockefeller Plaza?

Hey Chowhounders- my coworkers and I are always on the lookout for new lunch places amidst the corporate deli wasteland of central midtown. Can you give me some good suggestions? Here are my requirements:

1. inexpensive (ideally under $10)
2. yummy

bonus points:
1. we can eat there (so food trucks aren't as ideal, now that we can't sit outside)
2. we can actually get in during lunch

Thanks for you help!

Here are some of the places already on our list:

1. Margon (Cuban on 46th)
- a classic, tons of food, great vibe... and seen on "30 Rock"!

2. Minar (Indian on 46th)
- good food, quick line... the ladies can be kinda brusque. Also, hard to get a table.

3. Sapporo (Ramen on 49th)
- great ramen, fun staff

4. Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien (56th)
- max fun factor, but always slammed
