Tips for Sagebrush Cantina Lunch Survival

Saturday I'll be doing lunch at Sagebrush Cantina despite my advice for the contrary. Is there anything on the menu that someone would actually recommend?

Dancing Sugar Plums

With Christmas just around the corner I heard read last night "Twas the Night Before Christmas." I've heard this hundreds of times but for the first time last night it occurred to me I had no idea what a "sugar plum" was. Was it candy? Some sort of baked good? Not food but a saying? Seeking results I hit the internet.

According to Wikipedia, it's a "piece of candy that is made of sugar and shaped in a small round or oval shape." So it is candy, and now, I want it.

Can any Hounds direct me to somewhere, anywhere, in the LA environs where I can pick up a sampling? I think it would be fun to go to my parents house on Christmas Eve with an actual bag of the stuff, or hey, if you're looking for a good gift just buy "Twas the Night Before Christmas" with a bag of these confections and you're set!

Anyone?

Elementary School Chalupa

Ok so bear with me on this, but did anyone else have a "chalupa" on their elementary school cafeteria menu? Basically it was a shallow oblong tortilla shell boat with a thin layer of cheddar cheese and ground beef on the bottom. It then usually had a haphazard spray of shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes on top.

I'm sure that if you didn't eat it as a kid you'd probably hate it if you ate it now, but my god, those things were insanely satisfying.

I always looked forward to chalupa day and can't help but wonder if there is something similar out there where I can get my childhood fix. Anyone know of such a thing anywhere in LA? I know I could probably just make the thing easy but please indulge me.

Chowing on Clam Chowder

I woke up this morning wanting New England clam chowder, and I want more then just something out of a can. Where can I get destination worthy New England clam chowder to satisfy my hunger?

And while we're on the topic... just out of curiosity...where can I find the best Manhattan Clam Chowder? Rhode Island Clam Chowder? I'd never heard of it before until a quick googling this morning, but apparently it's chowder in a clear broth.

Anybody?

Burger with BBQ Sauce...where in LA?

Where can I find a phenomenal burger that uses BBQ sauce not found on a grocery story shelf? Anywhere in LA?

Nat's Early Bite Lunch in Van Nuys

I've had luck with all their breakfast options. Would it still hold out if I strayed into lunch?

Du-Par's, Thousand Oaks?

How is the Du-Par's in "Thousand Oaks"? Worth a stop for breakfast if you're in the area?

Best Fast Food Breakfast Hash Browns

What if you were choosing between: Arby's, Burger King, Carls Jr., Chick-fil-A, Jack In The Box, McDonald's, or Wendy's?

Nachos in the SFV

I've been in the mood for some serious killer nachos these past few days, where can I get my fix in the SFV? Are the nachos at "Nacho's" in Granada Hills a good idea?

ISO Custard Filled Donuts

If never seen a cream puff she could pass up... other then the ones at "Beard Papa." She really didn't care for them.

The last time I remember her really enjoying a cream puff came from "Yamazaki Bakery" in Little Tokyo.

ISO Custard Filled Donuts

My girlfriend really loves custard filled donuts but I don't want to pay patronage to "Krispy Kreme." Anywhere in LA do the donut justice?

First Time at Porto's...Suggestions?

and what about the sandwiches?

First Time at Porto's...Suggestions?

For a first time visit to Porto's, during lunch, what's not to be missed?

Healthy Eating in Anaheim

Are there any healthy eats to be found in Anaheim?

Griddle Cafe Suggestions

This Saturday I'll finally be paying patronage to "The Griddle Cafe" and am in desperate need of ordering suggestions. I'm assuming I should stick to either the pancakes or french toast, but I'm having serious issues narrowing down my choices.

Also I know the place gets crowded, but does anyone have an idea of how early I'd need to get there on said day to avoid the long wait?

WTO at "Mimi's" for Breakfast

Next weekend I'll be eating breakfast at "Mimi's" and am wondering if I could get advice on what would be good to order.

Best Fast Food Breakfast Hash Browns

If there is one item guaranteed to be on every fast food breakfast menu it would be hashbrowns, and I'm sure everyone has a preference, So I'm curious, what's yours?

Mines leans towards to often ordered McD's, albeit at times I find it way too greasy. I prefer when it comes out crisper and not limp like it has on occasion. Burger King I have never been a fan of. I don't know if it's the oil the use, but for some reason theirs has always left me feeling kinda ill.

Great Burger AND Fries

Not to complicate the best burger debate any further, but I am hoping that someone will be able to assist me in answering this question: Where can I find a good burger with equally delectable fries?

Often I find myself eating a great burger, only to have the experience stymied by the underwhelming fries. Is there any place where meat and potato go hand and hand to create a truly fantastic experience? Or will I be forced to find two separate locations near enough to each other where I can order both to go?

Quiche Anyone?

Looking for get quiche in the LA area. Any recs?

Chocolate Covered Potato Chips

I know I can by them online, but is there anyplace in Los Angeles that sells them in-store?

Chocolate Covered Potato Chips

Anyone know where I can get chocolate covered potato chips? I've heard of theme before, but never really considered trying them until I saw them on Food Network. But now I can't find them!

Swinger's Burger

I just saw a little piece on "Your LA" where the guy went and tried three burger places: The Counter, Apple Pan, and Swinger's. I've done the first two, but have not had and know nothing about Swinger's. Can someone whose been tell me if it's worth my time?

Chocolate/Peanut Butter Type Birthday Cake

Sorta off topic, but does anyone know of a place that makes a chocolate-peanut putter pie?

The Hamburger

I dunno...$14 for a burger I'd feel like I was paying for missing cheese.

The Hamburger

Are there any LA burgers that actually benefit from the exclusion of the cheese?

Burgers with Unique Toppings

I actually have been here before and got my creative groove on. But I dunno...the only toppings there that feel really kinda zany are the dried cranberries, carrots, and sprouts.

Burgers with Unique Toppings

Now this is one I'd like to see a picture of before the undertaking!

Burgers with Unique Toppings

Having a fried egg on a burger was at one time something very odd to me, as I'm sure having chili on a burger was something equally as strange when it first hit the scene. I'm curious, what restaurants/shacks/trucks in the LA area serve a burger with other "different" non-traditional toppings? I'm not looking for patty alternatives, just the toppings. Now this can be subjective, as what one finds weird another might not. But I'm still curious on what's out there, and if in your opinion the bizarre topping was even worth the trouble.
