Grille Zone closing 1/26

It is also possible that the opening of 'Rhett's', a burger joint in one of BU's main dining halls further removed clientèle from the Grille Zone. The burgers at the new place are pretty terrible, but it is convenient. I am SO SAD to see the Grille Zone go.

Rhett's, new burger joint at BU

Rhett's is really bad. I have eaten there a couple of times and had the burger and the turkey burger and there is nothing there beyond lackluster college cafeteria fare. That being said, the ice cream is very good. But it is no better than just buying Ben and Jerry's or any other super-premium store ice cream. It seems that the BU dining services people were just trying to capitalize on the popularity of Grille Zone and Uburger. Definitely not a place for a hound to bother with.

You are pretty much up a creek for Texas-style Mexican tamales round these parts, I'm afraid. Get your Texan friends to bring you some when they visit, along with reasonable tortillas and fresh masa.

Sel de la Terre - advice

I took my sister there for her birthday and the food was delightful. I had the lobster salad, which must have had a whole family of lobsters in it for the amount of meat that I got. Super sweet flesh of the sea roach, yum! I also had the french toast (we went for brunch), which was AWESOME. I would say it is definitely worth going to.

CSA Review

I have a share through Red Fire Farm, which delivers to Harvest Co-op in Central Square, Cambridge. I had the most wonderful experience picking up my share every week (The share runs from June to December but decreases in frequency at the end of october). The variety was quite impressive (I think they grow over 300 different varieties on the farm) and the amount was far more than 2 (non vegetarians) could reasonably eat in a week. Additionally, the pick-your-own option was very generous (worth the hour drive to get there). My sister and I picked over 10 quarts of the most beautiful strawberries in June and I have enough jam to last long after then next season is upon us. I did purchase the fruit share option as well as the vegetable share. Although $180 seems a bit steep, I think I will go with the fruit option again. Red Fire arranges for some kind of exchange or something with other local farms and obtains a good variety of fruit - in addition to the weekly 1/2 peck of tons of different apple varieties late in the season (the Green Shamrock were transcendent), we got tiny plums, wine grapes, peaches, melons, strawberries, blueberries (the smell of those is indescribable) and even some sugar snap and shell peas. The pickup at Harvest can get a little tight, but everyone (other CSA members) is very considerate when it comes to taking turns and maneuvering around the table during a crowded time. I have never had it take more than 20 minutes to pick up, even when I was in a hurry.

I also have a 10 lb monthly meat share through Stillman's. The meat is very good, and priced economically compared with their a la carte prices ($7 a pound). The farm provides pork, lamb, beef, chicken. Sometimes the cuts are a little strange or unexpected. I have gotten cube steak, country style ribs, pork neck bones (those weren't included in the '10 lb'), and even a package of hot dogs. I really can't do justice to the whole chickens that they have (all chicken comes whole). The flesh is much firmer than Bell and Evans (for example) and the flavor is just spectacular. The pickup for the meat share is painless, unless you count being enticed to buy bread at Clear Flour.

Please help me find a place for 15 on Fri in Harvard Sq

Addis Red Sea has decent food, but DON'T go there with 15 people on a friday night. I assure you that you will be there at least 4 hours. Even with the small groups of 4-5 that I have taken there on a weekday the wait (for both a table and the food) has been very long.

Where to get the best Bread Pudding

I have to second the Eastern Standard version. I have had it a couple times and it is everything you would dream of in a chocolate bread pudding. BUT, they have changed their menu for the season and now they list a Cherry Bread Pudding with white chocolate and cinnamon ice cream on their menu.

Save Us from Applebee's

I think that the quality between Legal's locations varys considerably. I would recommend that you skip the Prudential location and stroll over to the Copley one. Or, better yet, go to the Kendall location in Cambridge.

Did I miss something by not stopping at Panifico?

I have been to the Back Bay location twice. Both times the service was just fine but the food was pretty terrible and quite overpriced. The quality of the food doesn't jive at all with the nice-looking interior.

Help a Brit for Thanksgiving

I highly recommend The Fireplace in Brookline for a meal in general and their website says that they are serving 'Cider-Brined Local Heritage Turkey with Apple & Sage Brioche Stuffing, Apple-Squash Puree, Cranberry-Vanilla Compote & Rich Turkey Gravy' for Thanksgiving (as well as a myriad of other options). It isn't exactly close to where you will be staying, but it has a very relaxing atmosphere that you might appreciate.

Birthday dinner in İstanbul

I really liked Hamdi Restaurant, which is right over the water. Everything I tried there was awesome, and we had a big family style meal, so I got to try a lot of stuff.

Holiday party for 30-35 people

Amelia's Trattoria in Cambridge is really good, festive food and you could probably rent the entire restaurant for your party. Very cosy interior. And they have a decent wine and liquor selection as well.
