what should I serve with milk braised pork?
Thanks all, great suggestions! I think I'll go with the mixed root veg oven-roasted, casue that's what I have on hand!
what should I serve with milk braised pork?
I'm having some friends over for dinner tonight and were making milk braised pork. I've never served this to guests before and usually we just eat it with bread and veggie on the side. But I'd like to serve it with something more "fancy" than just bread. Rice doesn't really seem like it would fit. Maybe polenta?
trade kefir grains for a kombucha mother
I don't want to pay the $25 from the lovely stand at the Berkeley Farmers market for a new kombucha mother (mine recently has gone kaput). But I'd love to pass along some wonderful kefir grains to someone who is looking to make their own kefir. Anyone want to trade?
Eat Your Books -- New Version Out [Moved from Home Cooking]
Had a great success last night, my first real time using EYB. We were grilling tuna and i wanted a miso sauce or dressing for the fish and spinach. A quick search on EYB and I ended up using a cookbook I hardly ever use (Sara's Secrets) - the miso sauce was super easy, quick and a great pair for the fish. I will definitely make it again!
Zojirushi thermal coffee maker?
My husband has a new job that requires him to leave home at 4:30 in the morning. Understandably, he does not want to make a french press pot at that hour of the morning! So I'm looking into programmable coffee makers. I'm not in the market for a Technivorm - it's just so expensive - but I'd like something that makes a quality cup of coffee. The Zojirushi looks great and seems like it has all the goods, water temperature, thermal carafe, etc. Anyone have any personal experience with it?
My search for a Non-Stick alternative, my results, and THANKS!
This is a great thread! I've learned of two amazing this in the past week because of chowhound! These pans, and eatyourbooks.com - AMAZING! I got rid of my nonstick over two years ago and have been making do and working in my castiron pans - but I'm going to quickly get myself one of these pans, I can't wait!
Eat Your Books -- New Version Out [Moved from Home Cooking]
I can tell this is going to be a huge time sink, I mean time saver, for me. I was a bit lost in the old thread (since I just signed up today) perhaps it was becauase of this new version. Regardless, I'm loving the site, and was able to add 42 cookbooks just from memory. I can't wait to get cooking! THANK YOU!!!
What's for Dinner? Part LI
I had to google eatyourbooks and signed up in a heartbeat! Do you love it? I'm thinking this is the next best thing since sliced bread...

Not on the Kindle - but the "how to Cook Everything" app is amazing!
beans in the pressure cooker?
The first time I cooked garbanzos in the pressure cooker, it was a revelation! Since then I've obliterated other types of beans, never able to guess the right amount of time. Are you a seasoned pro? How long do you cook different types of beans in the pressure cooker - specifically white beans that have been soaked?

Gluten-free in the footnotes - mainly east bay
How I wish I could find all those things! But thanks for the tips - as I didn't know that Rustica offered GF crusts. Along those same lines, Bobby G's Pizza on University has an option for a GF crust, I believe it is the Mariposa bakery crust.

Did I kill my mother (kmobucha)?
Making kombucha for the second time last night I made a mistake and added the mother to the just boiled tea solution. I realized my mistake perhaps 30 seconds later and removed the mother, promptly put her back into some room temperature kombucha. Please tell me I didn't kill it (her)...
Local/Sustainable restaurants in SF and Oakland near BART
I would not call BarLata toddler freindly. The tables are very close together and I don't think you could get a highchair in there.

I would double check on Cactus meat. Niman Ranch is now crossed out on the menu...

Thanks for the toddler nod here, I'll be making my way there with the toddles asap. So they have highchairs or boosters?
Oasis Market - Oakland
Wow, I must not make it down Telegraph this far very often, because driving by the other day was the first time I noticed Oasis. I'm getting myself there as soon as possible. I've been loving Turkish Kitchen, but it's a bit of a trek. Oasis is much closer to home, plus with all the market staples I can see myself being a frequent patron. Thanks for the info everyone!

Vietnamese crepe in Oakland?
After reading a few positive comments from Robert - we tried Ahn Hong on University. Banh Xeo was one of the items we got and it was excellent, crispy and very large. We ordered several things and were very pleased with all of them.
