Winer's Profile
Tapas & Tango
There is a winery in Newberg having a "Tapas & Tango" night with music, food from Toro Bravo, wine (obviously) and tango dancing. Any other 'Hounds going? It is at Penner Ash, I am on their mailing list and got an email about it last week. We are in already should be fun, it is on Fri Feb 10th
Boston Licensing Board - Whoops!
One of the issues is that you can not purchase any type of alcoholic beverage and bring it on to a licensed premise. Therefore in theory you shouldn't be able to have the spirits and then convert them to cordials. Very grey area
Boston Wine Riot - whats it all about?
The Wine Riot is a younger hipper and much smaller version of the Expo. Expo has degenerated over the years into a total shitshow that just attracts people who want to get hammered for 6 hrs
kitchenaid artisan stand mixer: will it help me bake!!??
Chill your Pork almost to freezing to avoid the gooey quality you note then grind it
kitchenaid artisan stand mixer: will it help me bake!!??
I have the Pasta extruder and it was a total waste of money. Buy the roller set, far more expensive and can only make flat pastas but great. Consider the Pro 600 Kitchen Aid, it is larger and the gears are all metal vs plastic in the current Artisans
Need help...,most romantic restaurant in the Boston area
Table 2 at Mama Maria, a tiny private room overlooking North Square and the city skyline.Great Food etc. Call the owner Jon McGee and explain your situation or chat with the Manager Mohammad. True Pros and fantastic food. They will make your night very special
Brasserie Jo
The eggs were on the bar last week at lunch. Brassiere Jo is an under rated spot in my opinion. The entire hotel is under the radar with exception of the rooftop pool in the summer. I think it is consistent and tasty. Not every meal needs to be a mindblowing experience. Consistency counts and you get that at Brassiere Jo
Line-up for California pinot tasting?
The Le Beauge Au Dessus is a top end Au Bob Climat bottling. It may be a bit young but I'd toss it in to have a Santa Barbara wine in the mix
luxe supper club with whiskey recs?
Oak Room is the answer in my opinion. Also being a hotel they are less driven to turn the table, so you can savor your meal and read without feeling like they want you out of there

Ideas for a romantic, Italian restaurant in Boston
Mamma's is the answer. The food is fantastic and the setting if far more romantic than any other option in the North End.
Let us know what you decide to do and give us a little review
Boston Hound needs help
Hi everyone,
I am visiting friends who live in Waucanda (sp?) this upcoming weekend and want to bring my buddy and his wife out to dinner. Don't want to travel too far as we will be dealing with Babysitters etc. Looking for something casual yet upscale, independent with a decent wine list
thanks
Zinfandel Port Recs?
they make nice Zins, but their "Port" is actaully made from traditional varietals that they grown on the property, not Zin.
Restaurants w/tea service-South Shore/Cape Cod
Try the Cranebrook Tea Room and Restaurant in Carver
please help identify this kitchen tool !!
I gotta go with nut chopper my mom has one that looks just like it
Kitchenaid stand mixer attachments
Totally agree with Adamshoe, I have had same experience. There is a Pasta extruding attachment that is a total waste of cash, avoid it. As far as the Ravioli roller goes I have heard it is a bit difficult to control. Probably easier to go by hand after rolling the pasta in the KA roller set
Unique Boston seafood and steak
Capital Grill is a chain as is Abe & Louies, so if you want a unique Boston experience I'd skip both. Doesn't mean that they are not fine choices, just not unique to Boston. Grill 23 is a freestanding steakhouse that is an institution in Boston. Give it a whirl
Does unrefrigerated, unopened wine go bad?
Very little chance that a wine getting over 75-80 degrees ONCE will be cooked. A 100 degrees maybe. The shipping conditions for most wines are so unregulated that wines frequently go thru large temprature swings and are fine. Prolonged expoisure to temps like that are generally harmful
Starving on South Shore
I have never been wowed by Solstice, had an ice cold (as in frozen in the middle) crabcake once. Service that seems to think it is entitled and a general feel that it is a really "Hot" restuarant. The fact of the matter is it is basically good restaurant in an area with few choice and it is quite small so it seems busy with a handful of folks in the place.
Has Oleana lost it's luster?
Never understood the hype of this place to begin with. It almost seems like people were afraid to say they wern't impressed.
Hotel Lounge for Pre-Xmas Drinks and Apps
Bar at the Langham is very elegant and in a historic building. 25ft ceilings, historic paintings etc. great spot
Kitchenaide mixer doesn't mix
You just have to go a bit further on the site. The one for the Pro 600 is $29.95 others are $24.95. The one for the Pro600 is sold out at this point if anyone is interested.
Kitchenaide mixer doesn't mix
Here it is;

I am going to order one today
Kitchenaide mixer doesn't mix
There have been a few threads on this and I know a rubber spatula like attachment is available for the paddle. Someone posted a link to this about a year ago and it looked worthwhile. Do a search
Organic wines for Thanksgiving
I am not sure how wrapped up I'd get in "Organic" as organic refers to the produce, be it grapes, melons, asparagus etc. The end product is organic yet the overall practices of the winery may be very much "Non Organic" so to speak. A sustainable winery will intergrate things like having vendors that also practice "clean green living" they will look at the larger picture. Recycled glass and paper, solar or windpower, composting, etc etc.
I applaude organic producers but lets look at the big picture when making a purchase.
Argentinean Malbec recommendations?
Septima has estate grown Malbec which is damn tasty for about $10.00, owned by the Raventos family which owns the Cordineiu group so they have lots of $$ to invest in great technology and land
Can someone answer this simple wine question?
You are on the right path here but we can go a bit further. In truly fine dining a guest should never have to taste his wine and should of course be served last. A proper Som / wine waiter will taste each bottle before it is brought to the table to insure a quality item is being served. ergo there is no reason for the host to taste.
The origins of serving a bit to the host goes back to bibical times when wine was stored in earthenware containers and then covered in oil to seal the wine in from the air. Servants would skim as much oil as they could off the wine before serving but would serve the host first so if anyone were to get any oil in the wine it would be him not the guests.
At this point service has mutated to a part theater /part head up the ass show that basicly scares people away from enjoying wine on a daily basis.
