Best Burger

I actualyl love the taphouse.....the burgers are decent not great.....to me the problem is the bread. Its too good!! Too hearty! I love bread but burgers are about the meat. Taphouse is definitley solid but could be better!

Pipers Kilt....superb no more!

I think a lot of purists/foodies will agree that coated fries are not nearly as good as very crispy normal fries and not even close to the hand-cut variety. I think Coated fries are fine for fast food places but they have no place in a mecca like pipers kilt used to be.

I am not saying that they aren't tasty...I am saying that they arent considered "top of the line" french fries.

Pipers Kilt never had amazing fries like some other burger havens, but they used to have very high quality fresh "chip" style french fries. The fact that they switched to the cheaper and more generic coated fast food fries, is an example on how they are cutting corners.

NO WAY!!!! Used to be the best not any more. I am a huge fan but three out of the last four burgers I have had from the Kilt have been TERRIBLE!!

Pipers Kilt....superb no more!

Coming from a longtime piper kilt fan, I think that unless they change their act immediately, their days of being a top Westchester burger are over!

Three out of the last 4 burgers we have had there where medicore at best....terrible and dry at worst. This fiasco started about a year and a half ago when they decided to change to coated fries (a travesty in foodieville), the burgers have gone steadily downhill since! I did have on time a few months ago that they seemed to redeem themselves...but I must say the meal I had there last night with some out of town cousins was ATROCIOUS.

The burgers where ALL overcooked, much smaller than in years past, not juicy in the slightest! Even the bacon was dry and seemed to suffer from the dreaded grill laziness. Fries where the typical coated useless mess!

This is not easy for me to say being a huge Kilt fan and supported but they are off my list!!!

Tarry Lodge Anniversary dinner review.

The wife and i arrived at Tarry Lodge last night with very high expectations. Not only because of the hype but because she has never been to a Batali restaurant (I have been to Babbo, Lupa and even Po). Let me tell you guys.....our expectations where WELL exceeded. Everything from the food, to the service, to the wine was sublime. Our server helped us construct a 5 course meal and prevented us from voerordering (which we tend to do). The sommolleir picked out the most amazintg bottle of Pinot i have ever had (not a fan normally). and the food....oh the food.

The Gunicale Truffle pizza was life changing. This might be the best thing that has ever entered my mouth my wife agreed. There is no way the shaved truffles are Perigord as such...but boy did the flavor pop. We also tried the housemade speck which was melt in your mouth delicious. Pasta's where from heavan. Oxtail Gnocci was a touch salty but delicious and the Garganelli...yes I will say this right here and now....THE BEST PASTA DISH WE HAVE EVER HAD. Perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, the mushrooms where almost too delcious, each bight burst with earthy goodness. The meal was capped with us sharing the Roast Quail special. We hadnt intended on it but the server sold us on the dish....quail is easily mishandled and let me tell you....its was superb. Juicy, smokey crispy skin, and the mission fig underneath was perfect! We couldnt decide on the desert and ended up picking the gelato, but the manager braught us out the other desert we where contemplating on the house, as well as some delicious desert wines on the house. Amazing night.

I was expecting a solid casual night out but we ended up spending 2 plus hours on this incredible meal. It was perfect. And here is the kicker....this entire food festival including tip and wine was $200. This is almost insane

What a place!!!

Depends how many people. I am friends with the Chef/Owners of the Sterling Inn in New Rochelle. Yummy food (one of the best brunches in Westchester) and lovely space. You can tell them I referred you and they will treat you well!

Morello Bistro in Greenwich Review

The wife and I had a lovely meal in Grenwich this weekend. We had a GC to GAIA only to find out that as of December 1, GAIA is no more....instead this beautiful space is now occupied by Morello Bistro. Same owners new chef.

Here is a quick review. The space of course is still beautiful....kind reminds me of Bowfinger in Paris in that is spacious but classy and comfortable. Kinda looks like an old railway station.

Service was excellent throughout the meal, which is rare for a new restaurant. Solid wine list, with some affordable french and italian bottles. Now to the food:

Started with the Charceuterie and bakes clams. The cured meats where very fresh and tasty but an at exceptional selection and the baked clams where moist and delicious...but also, not out of this world...solid!

Pasta course, we shared the homemade gnocci with wild mushrooms and panchetta. This dish was very rich and delicious but the panchetta was a little to underwhelming. I was hoping for a smokey bacon taste but it was mostly mushrooms...still perfect Gnocci and delicuous not too heavy sauce.

Entree where EXCELLENT. I had the cod which was perfectly cooked...and i mean to the second!! she had the Lamb which was also perfect. Neither dish blew our minds but for the sub $30 prices they where cooked tio perfection.

The deserts where absolutely excellent. Chocolate Fondant cake is essentially a perfect lava cake and the Tiramisu is how it should be!

All in all it was a very nice meal. Considering the place isnt overly expensive i think the food is a nice quality for the money. Definitly recommend this place for a yummy, slightly refined but casual meal!

Enjoy.

Pipers Kilt...OH NOOOO?!?!?!

Ok I am a Corner Bistro covnert so you guys know what I am into. I never found Pipers Kilt (Eastchester) necassarily better than Corner Bistro....but I have always thought the Kilt had EXCELLENT burgers. Top 5 plain pub burger I have ever had.

So now i am worried. I have been there twice in the past month and a half and both times the burgers where not good. Overcooked, dry, tasteless. This is after maybe 40 plus trips in the past 3 years. Not only where the burgers upsetting but it appears that they have changes to the dreaded coated fries garbage!!!

Anyone else experience this lately?? I wont condemn the place until 3 poor trips in a row....but I am scared that I may have to find a new local burger haven!!!

Did my cleaning lady ruin my WINE???

I have a wine fridge containing about 20 bottles of Whites and reds and one bottle of Moet. They are all California's but all are mid-to high end varietals. Nothing older than 2003.....my moron cleaning lady unplugged my wine fridge and let all of the bottles warm up to around room temperature....i would say they went from around 55 to 75 (my place is warm).

I know most of the Chards and Blancs are ok but does anyone know if my Cabs and noirs are ruined??? I have a couple of bottles I was going to age for about 5 years I am praying that they are safe.

Any advice?

Best (nice) restaurants in northern Bergen county NJ

Grew up in Bergen county but haven't really eaten there in years so this is from memory. Saddle River Inn was pretty excellent, definitely cafe panache. Cafe Matisse is awesome too if its not out of your way and its a BYO which is insane for this caliber of restaurant.

Zarole in Ridgewood used to be insane but i think its closed.....oh and off course Latour in Ridgewood.

Going to X2O) with the wife tonight....What MUST we order

Wow let me tell you guys...this place is astounding. The space is beautiful on the inside and out. Not a bad seat in the house. The wife is pregnant so her choices where limited. She had the pea soup with smoked salmon spring rolls...both whee excellent. I started with the special Seared ahi which was excellent, followed by the Fois Gras and Short Rib ravioli......INSANE!!!! I mean WOW it was pure decadence can't even describe how luxurious it was. For entrees she had the rack of lamb once again excellent, but her Israeli cous cous was straight from heaven...the most perfect use of curry i have EVER tasted. I had the Berkshire Hog....the Mignon was great...but the PORK BELLY....dare i say Best I have ever had....this includes Daniel, Gramercy, and La Mer in Hawaii....among others.....its was pur eheavan on a plate.

Deserts where excellent too....chocolate Timbale was decadent, red velvet cake was amazing....but ho cares hahaha.

EXCELLENT!!!! Lives up to the hype....oh and Chef Kelly still comes up to every single table and spent a few minutes with us!
